What is tone, and how can u use it in a song. Like how can a song be heavy "tone" wise?

"tone"refers to the way the same instrument can sound different despite playing the same note. saying an amp has a nice tone means that the amp is aurally pleasing, although this is fairl;y subjective everyone will hear how a £1000 amp has a nicer tone than an MT-2 through a practise amp. a metal tone would usually have lots of distortion and scooped mids.

saying 'this amp has a nice tone' means 'this amp has a pleasing distribution of frequencies across the audible frequency spectrum' therefore tone refers to the overall frequency response, not distortion.

guitarists, when talking about tone, would always say "this amp has a nice distortion tone", even if thats not the technically correct term.

yh im aware, i just said what tone really refers to in a professional environment. as he didn't specify, we don't know what 'tone' he was referring to. and im not sure what scooping mids is, although I know swept mids on a 3-band eq means that the midrange gain controls frequencies at the higher end of the 'mid' spectrum. I don't know if that's the same as 'scooped'.

depends on opinion! a good tone usually will make it sound good! like if your expectin a heavy song, if the low frequencies are equalized in a way to please your ears and make your stomach churn, the song probably has a 'heavy metal tone' but it depends on opinion. I told you what tone really means above.

scooped mids is having the midrange frequencies on some kind of EQ (graphic, parametric, whatever) lower than the bass and treble.
