In this thread I will link to all of the Hardcore/Emo CD Reviews in the sputnik section (www.musicianforums.com/sputnik). I have noticed that there aren't that many good reviews and that there are mostly crappy metal/alternative ones at that site. Also, the ones in the emo section are not emo at all. The only ones that actually are are from the intelligent educated folk from around here. So how about we change all that. I'll link to music by genre all up in here as an archive and you kids should get out there and write reviews.

BuddyBigsby
03-21-2005, 02:36 PM
Well it doesn't really belong in hardcore/metalcore at all technically, but since they used to be metalcore and still have a following with that crowd I figured I'd link it. DFelon can link it or not, I really don't care.

Which section would Fugazi go under?
Earlier Fugazi is hardcore/post-hardcore, generally the older the band got the more they moved into indie-punk/post-hardcore. That is a very general statement though.

Even short concise reviews are good. I purposefully made my You and I review short. I mean, compared to my CTTS review, anything is short, but still, don't worry about making it immensely thorough. Just give a good sense of your stance on the album.

Good news. Saetia is now in the emo subforum of sputnik and Taking Back Sunday isn't.

Yeah, post any corrections here. We can edit them.

DFelon204409
03-28-2005, 11:25 PM
Well, they require a moderator review and I'm pretty sure if somebody who doesn't "get" what we're going in this forum is going to see Taking Back Sunday, Jimmy Eat World, and tons of other bands getting switched out of emo all at the same time, they're probably going to ignore the requests and leave it how it is. One at a time is a good thing. The emo subsection is pretty messed up right now so I'm going to correct it all gradually. The one thing you all should be doing right now is writing reviews. I'm not kidding. We need to fill that thing out with real emo so it doesn't look suspiciously barren when we extract all the fake emo.

You can just add a review for it. No biggie. It'll just say there are two reviews. Also, you can edit their genre but a) there's no "post-hardcore" to put them into and b) they're sort of metalcore.

Haha I haven't linked a review in so long. I'm going to catch up at the end of the summer. I've been revising the Emo/Screamo list. Check it out. It's changed a lot.

Electric Ocean
07-23-2005, 01:46 PM
I looked at it the other day, and I was just wondering, why are CTTS under emo?

DFelon204409
07-23-2005, 01:57 PM
Because they are. I dunno what I'm going to do with them. The more I listen to emo, the more I have trouble splitting emo and screamo. Since so many bands are on the fringe.

Reasons CTTS seem screamo:
-Grind elements
-Faster guitar

Reasons CTTS seem screamo:
-Epic songs
-Clean tone guitar
-More quiet parts
-Shouted vocals sometimes instead of all screamed

To me that's more emo than screamo. Same with City of Catepillar.

Electric Ocean
07-23-2005, 02:03 PM
I understand City of Caterpillar as they're obviously a lot less choatic but the Screamo section seems to be composed of "emo violence" (for want of a better phrase) bands. I think CTTS should go under Screamo even if they aren't quite as choatic as some of the other bands there, I don't really see why the epic-y twinkly bits should be enough to make them emo. Also they seem to sound more like some of the bands in the screamo section more than they do the ones in the emo; I don't think they should be in the same genre as Hot Cross.

It doesn't really bother me too much if you want to leave them there though, the rest of the list seems fairly accurate to me anyway.

Earlier Fugazi is hardcore/post-hardcore, generally the older the band got the more they moved into indie-punk/post-hardcore. That is a very general statement though.

i read fugazi started the whole "emo" scene

DFelon204409
07-30-2005, 01:51 AM
Ya. Whatever. Fugazi helped. Rites of Spring contained fugazi members. Whatever.

I couldn't help but notice the new Evergreen Terrace CD being classified as a Metal release.
I've always considered ET a Hardcore band, and VERY much moreso than they are a Metal band.

I don't "do" emo (lol no offense anyone of course) but I may do a few hardcore bands that aren't on there.
