hmm. weird. this link is not supported by Safari. Oh well. Netscape if you must.

Brian.. for what the music lacks in control, it makes up in intent. I'm a big supporter of improvisational works..

Some things that people listen for in these types of pieces are:

-Intentional guidance and collaboration of each instrument. If you guys are fighting with each other, people can feel the tension and are turned off.
-Mastery of technique. I know it's harsh.. but people can tell if you suck at your instrument.. no matter WHAT it is you are playing. If you think we didn't hear you play that glaring wrong note 3 quarters through the piece, then you are in denial. And don't try to say that "it's all a part of the free expression of the piece" b.s. Learn what you are doing and what your framework will be.
-Intent. Good job on this one. Grasp an idea and go after it.
-Direction. Look, you jumped on this crazy horse. If you get tossed off early, it's your fault. A piece lets you know whether it is directionless or not. Try not to vacillate. Only unless total confusion is your goal. In that case, don't count on getting many listeners. People only like so much nonsense.

3 weeks or 3 years. Your heart defines you.

Hmm, it kind of sounds like you're just playing random doodling.

You shouldn't really expect to be any good after 3 weeks.

It wasn't bad though, I was surprised since you said you'd only been playing 3 weeks. I thought it would really suck, but it didn't. Just keep practicing.

Ah.. a fellow mac user. Forget trying to use IE at all. Total waste of time. In almost ALL things.

The mac equivalent to IE is Netscape (http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/download.jsp) ..of course you can try firefox.. but i haven't had a need to yet.

I'm far from an expert but I'd have to say you might want to start off with just chords.

Take some simple chord progressions and start with different inversions play the chords with both hands shift off (L/R) and play octaves of the root notes again shifting hands.

I cant exactly tell but if you were trying to solo on the keys. If you were at 3 weeks experience, dont. Randomly moving your fingers fast that dont follow any paterns sounds exactly like what it is. Learn the basics, scales, arpeggios, chords etc... If your intention was not to play a solo but to play some type of melodic line, again go back to the basics.

Yep, fellow Mac user. :DI always use Safari, but interestingly it was only yesterday I had to use IE for a certain site that didn't work on Safari... anyway.

Brian,

Dont get discouraged in any way. Just stick with it. I'm self taught and I've been playing for 20 years, been in a number of decent bands and made it on a CD and 2 videos with the last band.

Practice Practice Practice, its what its all about.

Yes Brian, the worst thing you can do is just get discouraged. Practice practice practice, just as Shreddy says. It truly is what it's all about.
