Hey, a few weeks ago a friend offered me if i wanted to sleep over his house and go see "The Son of the Mask". Despite how much it got bashed by the so-calledly "Professional" critics, i thought what the crap, i wanna go see it. But i found to my surprize, the Mask was as hilarious as hell. Then i went on to see that quite a few of the movies i really like have gotten bashed hard by these "critics". I mean, do these people actually think they're right? Does anyone here agree with me that (most) film critics are stupid?

I never trust critics, but that movie looks horrible.
In my eyes the job of a film critic is useless and a waste of money.

They're there for if people want an opinion before seeing a film. People have different opinions, different senses of humour etc. Maybe you would see a film which gets great reviews, but you hate it.
It's ok to read what critics say for an opinion, just don't take it as gospel. If you want to see a film, see it anyway. And judge for yourself.
Great post. :)

If you are going to go by a critic rating at least go to rottentomatoes.com or something to get a range of viewpoints by varying critics. Also, it is possible to enjoy a non-critically acclaimed film because people go into films expecting different things. I am sure a movie like Son of the Mask isn't intended to be moving or inspirational. In fact when you leave the theater it probably fades from your mind quickly. Critics tend to punish these films that are good for a bit of token entertainment, but have little lasting appeal.

Critics usually base a movie on different standards than the average viewer. They actually grade the film on acting, story-line, directing, writing, etc., while most people just want to see something blow up.
But, as has been said, if you want to see it, see it.

So much makeup and so many lame computer-animated characters to fill a Star Wars prequel.
Unless you're high and ADHD I don't see how it would be enjoyable. I am the Simon Cowell of movies.
