I'm intending to purchase a piano, so that I can play the drum tracks on it, and make recordings, something similar to (the mxer) Chimp_Spanner.

I want to upload my wav files of DKFH (Drumkit from hell) to individual keys and play them back.

Can anybody reccoemend a good keyboard that would cater to all my needs?

I would like it if it was a bit inexpensive too.

EDIT: Let me clarify, not a piano, a Keyboard

I don't know how I can help you, but I'll try to talk to my music teacher about it. He's sponsored by Yamaha for keyboard, so he knows his gear.

I have a Roland XP-80 that can do what you need. It's now considered an older model so you can pick a used one up for a pretty good price on EBay. I paid $1400 for mine, but I think they go for around $600 now. It's a big keyboard and you can probably find a smaller one, cheaper for the same use, but that's my 2 cents.

Kthnx.

The Roland can do everything i'm talking about? Can it record through USB? Can you upload sounds to each individual key? If so, then thank you for your help, and let me know if there are similar cheaper models to look out for.

Not USB (or at least I don't recall seeing a port... I can check tonight) but I usually transport data through floppy disk. It has a disk drive for that. I haven't played with all of it's features, but I know it can do that. I got it right before I decided to give up keys and focus only on drums. It was a waste of money, but since I have it, I figure I'll keep it.

Yes... in fact you probably don't need to upload any sounds since it has 6 different song banks (I think it's 6) and also has a connection for expansion boards. But if you are looking to get YOUR drumming on it, then yes, you can store it in a bank a set it so you hit certain keys, it plays the drums you have pre-set (or guitar or whatever you want to set) I used it for odd sounds for cover tunes.

Heres some specs on it

i think you just need to know how to put midi stuff into a keyboard, then just buy a cheap yamaha one (i did with someone talking, recorded it, and put it onto all the keys - great fun)

Yeah...you could use midi if you prefer it. Im not sure where your upload is coming from (assuming a computer). How to get it from computer thru midi to the keyboard, Im not sure. I played around with midi alittle, but found it confusing. Im sure you can get some good advise with it through this board

I don't want midi.

What I want to do:

Upload .wav files of individual drums to each individual key of a keyboard, therefore having the ability to play them back using my keyboard.

I don't want ANYTHING to do with midi. Another thing

Drummergirl: You said you can upload .wav files to individual keys, how is this process done? If its by floppy disk then forget it, I have like 72 mb I want to upload.

then you won't get anywhere.

and keyboard with the feature of uploading wav's will have some midi ability, most more.

No no no, I didn't make myself clear.

I know this, I know most keyboards have that function, if not all. But what I'm saying is that I want a Keyboard with THIS specific function, i'm not worried if it has midi or not.

Check the link for the specs I sent you. How you do plan to transfer the data from your computer to the keyboard?

You might just want to go to guitar center or something and ask them. It seems you are getting pissed at everything people suggest.

I already checked it doesn't really tell me much....

I initially plan to transfer data by a USB cable.

And what the hell are you talking about? I'm not pissed off at anything. I was annoyed when the thread had 30 views except no replies, and that was about it. Maybe you should relax a little.

Man, you are a true a-sshole, and every post you've made here proves that. And I am a "faggot," which is why your post pissed me off.

You need sampler to map out wav files to keys. Most synths are ROM based using internal waveforms and dont support importing external waveforms if they do its using a propietary expansion card.

Your options are:

Get a software sampler like GIGA Studio or other and load all the tones on your PC then connect the keyboard to the PC and use any midi keybaord (some cheapo casios will do this) as a midi controller to fire off the sounds off the pc. Its a pain in the az if your not going to use good hardware, like a good sound card (not soundblaster crap). This is the cheapest route.

Get a sampling keyboard and dump the tones off to the board. You'll need to learn how to create a whole new keyboard setup with the wavs mapped out to the keys. The Roland Fantom X are nice units with the 16 pads that you can map the tones to. This is an expensive route.

Get a loop based or phrase sampler like an Akai MPC 1000 or other type of hardware which has 16 pads on it and you can map out wavs, mp3s, loops, samples etc to the pads. These are also expensive.

Here is a site on the Akai units.

thats what i did - i plugged a mic into my friends sampler, got some wav files on, then connected the sampler VIA MIDI CABLE to my keyboard
