Jameer Nelson has been playing well recently and it seems he's going to be a solid starting level point guard in the league. So, should the Magic trade Francis?

I say yes.

Francis could net more in a trade than he's worth on the court-I still say he's quite often a detriment.

Now, here's what I say:

Trade Francis to whichever team gets the number 1 draft pick. Use that pick to take Andrew Bogut out of Utah, the number one center and overall player in college basketball.

Now, what you'd have is a base of:

PG Nelson
SF Hill
PF Howard
C Bogut

Pretty good, right? But, you could get more than just that. If you trade to the Hornets, get Casey Jacobson and Speedy Claxton to give you a decent shooting guard in Jacobson, who's capable of dropping 20 points any given night, and a decent backup point guard in Claxton.

If it's trading to the Bobcats, get Kareem Rush, Jason Hart and Gerald Wallace-a SG with potential, a decent backup PG and a solid backup SF.

Say it's the Warriors, get Dunleavy Jr and Pietrius-a solid SF to either start or be the 6th man and a SG who could possibly be a starter.

Finally, if it's the Hawks, try to land Josh Smith. If the Hawks are smart enough to keep him, get Josh Childress and Boris Diaw, with Childress being the starting SG.

Imagine a Magic team with:
PG Nelson
SG Josh Smith
SF Hill
PF Howard
C Bogut

That's a team for the finals.

thank god its monday

it just wouldnt be great for orlando Grant Hill just got injured for at least 2 games and who knows... it could be that some of the reason hill is doing so good is playing along side francis

Do you really think that? I think Hill would actually be playing better with a pass first PG and scoring threat at SG to help him on the wing.

Question: If you were the Hornets, would you trade the #1 pick and two decent bench players for Steve Francis? That would be absurd, especially if you want to rebuild (which the Hornets clearly want to do).

And what tradable assets do the Magic have to acquire all the bench players you'd hypothetical trade for?

Hey man something we agree on. There would be no team whilling to trade 2 players and a first round draft for Francis

It would make more sense to just put Jameer at PG and Francis at SG where he is better suited as a scorer anyway. Also between Cato and Batie, the Magic have talent at center already, especially defensively.

I don't see what is wrong with a lineup of

PG: Nelson
SG: Francis
SF: Hill
PF: Howard
C: Cato/Batie

with Hedo waiting on the bench to come in and drop 15-20 points.

Francis is one of the most popular players in the league and would give the Hornets a percieved superstar to build around.

As for Francis being SG...I don't see it working long term, he's too short.

Francis has proven time and time again that he is not a franchise player. I'd like to think that the Hornets know that. Especially when they could draft Chris Paul at #1 (with Magloire, I doubt their demand for a C would be high, assuming they even get the #1 pick).

I don't know if I'm sold on Chris Paul...I think he's another Kenny Anderson...With Dickau at PG, I wouldn't take a chance on a rookie PG...If I were them, I'd take Chris Taft or Tiago Splitter...Though I'm really not sold on Taft either, I think he's far too inconsistent. Hakim Warrick is a legit NBA prospect but he won't go in the top 10.

I like Hakim Warrick but i think if your looking for a solid Pg for the NBA i would go for B.J. Elder or Keith Langford
