I just bought Half-Life 2 yesterday and it took me an hour to install on my brand new PC. After the long and painful installation, I was like "Yay! I can finally play Half-Life!!!" but NO! All I got to see from the game is the Valve logo and then click! A black screen appears and I got this message "The instruction at "0x#######" referenced memory at "0x#######". This memory could not be 'read'. Click on OK to terminate the program." I went on a lot of website and I've contacted Valve and Steam by e-mail (and I've tried by phone, but I had been put on hold for like 30 minutes, so I hung up). For the moment, none of them respond to my mail and I've tried a lot of things to overcome the problem (update every drivers on my computer, change a lot of complex parameters, etc...). Unfortunatly, nothing worked! So, I was wondering if any of you had this problem with the game or know someone who had it? And if so, have you fixed it? How did you do it?

Thanks... I'm counting on you guys, because Valve seems to have a lack of competency in their own games...

Sorry, I've never encountered this problem with HL2.

Have you asked on the steampowered boards? You'll probably get much better help there than you will here.

maybe your computer doesn't have enough memory resources to run HL2...

How much memory does your computer have? What video card, how much memory on that? Processor speed?

And what type of RAM, I've heard there is some trouble with SDRAM on HL2.

I got...
AMD Athlon64 3000+
RAM 512Mb DDR-400MHz
ASUS GeForce4 Ti-4200 128Mb (I know it's not really good, but it's enough I think)
ASUS K8V-SE motherboard

I send a few questions at Steam and they refered me to their FAQ (twice) and I taught them I red it several times and nothing they suggested worked, and they keep sending me at their FAQ, they suck! Anyways, I'll get it fix someday by my uncle, thanks anyway!

Your GCF might be corrupt. If so, have fun redownloading.
