Of course not. I just wouldn't put it up there with the golden age. Especially because it's cut off by Caress of Steel which is a good album but probably one of their weakest ones.

I'm rediscovering the wonders of 2112. I hadn't given the album a much big read, to be honest, but yesterday/last week I did and well, I think it's pretty good.

I like how it rolls around. "Passage to bangkok" is my current Rush favorite.

2112 is the album that got me into progressive rock which is now my favorite genre. I love that album so much. I love Geddy's vocals on the Temples Of Syrinx, but I hate the way he sings it live.

TojesDolan

I prefer how he sings currently (and live) than most recording sessions, eh.

I've tried doing that before. I had to leave the house in a car without a CD player, so my plan failed.:( I got all the way to Hold Your Fire though.

Yeah, that's probably what will happen. The subject for the lyrics that Neil has been talking about seem kind of dry, but whatever. I can't wait for them to tour again.

I've been meaning to buy R30 for the longest time. Any time I'm near a DVD section and I see it I cringe because it hurts to throw money at it like that.

I WANT IT SO BAAAAD!

Do you guys think it's better than Rush In Rio?

Kenny_Fever
10-25-2006, 10:21 PM
There's lots of features and stuff on R30, old old videos of the band, as well as a few interviews and stuff.

Many have said that the sound quality on R30 is better than that of Rio, and I don't disagree. Also, it comes with extra stuff, including like a sticker/iron-on patch or whatever the hell it is, two autographed guitar picks and a book, as well as the concert CD's. I personally think it's a great value.

I like R30 more than Rush In Rio. The quality is a lot better (I think someone said this already), but Rush In Rio has a better set list.

Last one was a very good album, just suffered from muddy production.

They still play like monsters, just as great, if not better musicians, apparently this album is going more "backwards", and mix old Rush stuff with what geddy and Alex learned from their solo albums and Vapor Trail, this is gonna be a great piece of music.

So the rumor going around is that Rush's new album is going to be titled "Snakes and Arrows." It will be released May 1st, and the first single "Far Cry" will be released March 13th. Keep in mind this is just a rumor though. Oh yeah, tour kicks off on June 13th in Nashville, TN.

Yeah, I got the exact same feeling. I really hope the production is better on this album than on Vapor Trails. Judging by the 10 second sample, it seemed loads better, but it's hard to judge with a sample that short.

More news on the album:
Snakes and Arrows is supposed to have an instrumental track on it. Also, according to the producer, the album will have a similar feel and sound to Rush's late 1970s albums. I'm uber excited.

How many of you would categorise Rush as a prog rock band? I always assumed they were prog rock, based on things like the fact they heavily influenced DT who certainly are a prog rock/metal band. But, having purchased a few more of their albums, I'm not sure I'd put them in that category any more. To me, only the stuff from the 70s was prog.

Thoughts?

Good for you...

I woke up yesterday, and turned on the radio, only to discover that the Snakes and Arrows World Album Premiere was on. It really brightened my day. The funny thing is, if I didn't have to work yesterday, I probably would have missed it. So work did something good for me... aside from putting money in my pocket.

September 19th in Toronto! I'm there.

I caught that on the radio too...I must say I was impressed...not blown away, but impressed nonetheless. I'm sure it'll take a few listens to grow on me, just like most Rush stuff.

2 months, 19 days, and 6 or so hours I'll be 11 rows away from Geddy Lee :D:D:D

man i heard the preview for snakes and arrows on q-107 but it's so much better than i thought it would be. so far my fav songs off it are malignant narcissism (becasue geddy plays a jaco bass on it) and armour and sword ("no one gets to heaven without a fight" - very nice line and it's just solid)

I saw them on Monday in San Diego. I went with my girlfriend and we both loved it. It was both of our's first concert, which makes it even better. The setlist was great; we hadn't heard a few of the songs and it was cool to hear the classics live. I can't believe the energy they have too! They all seemed really happy to be there and they seemed to be having a great time. The crowd was great too. "Far Cry" is so good live too; I definetely need to get the new album.

Okay I'm a Rush n00b but I just bought 2112, and it is fricken amazing. Beyond belief. The title track (more like epic opera) is fantastic, and my two favorite of the remaining tracks is the Bangkok one and the Twilight Zone.

These guys are amazing beyond existence.

And I think Geddy Lee's vocals rock on this album. Why do people not like it?

I was hoping someone on here was at that same one too. Did you see Neil Peart kinda half smile at one time? I can't remember when, but that alone was worth the ticket price and gas lol.

Why do people not like it?

The only thing I can think of is that some people's brains aren't advanced enough to accept the ultimate coolness that is 2112. Also, if you like 2112 so much, I highly recommend you find a copy of Hemispheres. In my opinion, Cygnus is equal to, if not better than, 2112.

Ahhh.. Rush... I band I once could not stand but now have come to love. All three members supremely talented, but what's to say when its already been discussed...

Seafroggys, I think people dont really like Geddy's vocals because of the nature that he sound really whiney and high (in the 70s at least.) I've ran into alot of people like that, as how they dig the instrumentation but cant stand the vocals. And as a side note, I'd recommend A Farewell To Kings as an add on to your list. Xanadu and the first book of Cygnus are worth it :)

And hopefully I'm going to see these guys in Detroit in three weeks...

I just listened to the Exit Stage Left version, and I think it lacks some punch compared to the studio recording. It's still good, but it's lacking a bit of presence, if you will. Just my opinion, I dunno what everyone else thinks.

I've seen Rush live 7 times.
I saw them when hardly anyone else knew who they were and they were still playing 2000 seat arenas.
My band was playing 'The Spirit of Radio' and 'Limelight' when they were still new songs on the radio. And they all still had long hair and were in their 20's.
Yep, I'm THAT old.

Very few bands can touch them live musically and there's hardly a band out there anywhere that has that much collective musical talent in their members. :thumb:

Meh. I'd say they're all equally sophisticated with their approach, but what they're playing is still early 70's rock with certain progressive quirks. Now how that transfers over between drums and guitar is relative. Over all though I would say all 3 of them but in the same amount of "creativity"
