Come on, there has to be more than one stoner rock fan on this site.
Favorite bands:
Kyuss, High on Fire, Clutch, Neurosis...
There's more I can think of, but I'm too spaced out right now, but if you're a fan of the music, discuss.

Black Sabbath...
I love listening to them while im high
btw what passes for doom and stoner metal?

High on Fire is pretty doom-ish.

Great band.

Yeah, I found out about Kyuss because they jammed frequently in my area. Josh Homme went to my high school, and the CD "Welcome to Sy Valley" is in reference to an unincorporated land that is near where I live called (what do ya know) Sky Valley.

OK - for starters there is no such thing as stoner doom. There is stoner and there is doom. They are very different.
Doom:
St Vitus
Solstice
Penance
Trouble
Candlemass
While Heaven Wept
Revelation
So yes I love doom metal. It is the music of gods. Right now I am listening to to Penance and it is making me very happy indeed.
Stoner is a pile of ****e.

Stoner rock is happy, clappy, groovy music. It often has a "southern" feel to it. Check out Kyuss fora text book example.

Good choices!! Along with Orodruin and The Gates of Slumber, Reverend Bizarre are one the best new doom band around! And I'm proud to say that my band are playing with them in London later this month. Should be cool - they're a great band! Although Albert (Bass/Vox) has been known to wear nothing but a very small pair of briefs on stage!

Thought of two more, they are bands started by candlemass's bassist: Leif Edling. They are Krux and Abstrakt Algebra, although they are both similar (ish), they are worth trying to find.
The Abstrakt Algebra i would say was the better one, though not by much.

We're playing with Orange Goblin too at an all day gig in Kingston in April. Most of the bands are stoner though. There's only us and Cambian Dawn who are really doom (although I haven't seen the fial line-up)

Hopefully this thread will last a bit longer than the others. I'll have a bit of an uploading frenzy tomorrow and put some classic doom up for everyone to hear. But you've all got to promise to have a listen and feedback.

Oh oh, Doom and Stoner, that's right up my alley :)
Los Natas is the band I'd like to promote here, http://www.losnatas.com . Check 'm out, in my opinion the best rock group since, well, Kyuss.
Oh yea, and have you guys heard that Yawningman started touring again and recently released an album? For those not in the know, Yawningman was the first band of Alfredo Hernandez, ex-Kyuss drummer and ex-QOTSA, Orquesta del Desierto, with I think the guy from Fatso Jetson on guitar. They first recorded Catamaran, if you're a Kyuss fan you'll know that song. :) Check out the new track on stonerrock.com.

Ok, as promised here are some songs by some of the best bands in Doom Metal. I hope you enjoy them. Feedback and discussion would be good. I may post some more later depending on response.
Reverend Bizarre "Doomsower" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1WQ40USJ7NDMD20JGN7PJLJH4X)
This Finnish band are literally the hottest property in doom metal right now. And quite rightly so. Spot the Reagers style vocals and bass heavy riffs. A great live band too.
While Heaven Wept "The Drowning Years" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=31YYJZ456R5FY1AJ0LX0FZB3KW)
WHW are at the progressive end of Epic Doom Metal. They've been going ages and singer Tom Philips is one of the best around.
Candlemass "Under the Oak" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0NCDC35KG2UOG30OFTIZJAM8CZ)
Legends! If you don't like Candlemass, then there's quite frankly something wrong with you. From the debut album - they got even better when Messiah Marcolin joined.
Solstice "Cromlech" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0WD7CL2DSTY7W1NH5KK33U5BUC)
Solstice are one of my favourite bands. Its doom mixed with NWOBHM and it's ace!
Orodruin "Peasant's Lament" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2BJQWNF1CGP8Z2PJD75BNN6MM7)
Another new band who are great. Taken from their debut "Epicurian Mass" - old school doom holocaust!
St Vitus "Born Too Late" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3K76CN0S4N6J03I9BDZ83ZBVSF)
No discussion of doom can be undertaken without St Vitus!

Joe_fresh: I'm afraid I don't know anything about Millarca. I first heard them on a compilation album called "At The Mountains of Madness " (if you spot a copy on ebay - get it!) and someone kindly posted the two demos on another forum. Here they are:

Here you are jondur, some feedback.
Reverend Bizarre "Doomsower" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1WQ40USJ7NDMD20JGN7PJLJH4X)
This Finnish band are literally the hottest property in doom metal right now. And quite rightly so. Spot the Reagers style vocals and bass heavy riffs. A great live band too.
(No downloading for me, already own it)
Quality band. Quality song. The best thing about this band is the way they do their epic songs (Cirith Ungol 20mins+) they just dont get boring. Unlike other bands such as sunn o))) and esoteric, they manage to engage me throughout the song.
The song doomsower starts straight away with a sweet Sleep type riff. This is then accomponied by Albert Mangus' fantastic voice. Like i said before, a fantastic song, by a quality band.
Candlemass "Under the Oak" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0NCDC35KG2UOG30OFTIZJAM8CZ)
Legends! If you don't like Candlemass, then there's quite frankly something wrong with you. From the debut album - they got even better when Messiah Marcolin joined.
(Already got this one too)
I'm not sure i agree with you here jondur. I reckon their best album was this one, althought nightfall is still a classic, i wouldnt say they got much better though.
The 1st 30 sec or so up to when the vocals come in a amazing. A sweet riff, with a quality solo/filler/riff thingy. And then Johan Lanquist comes in with some top bollocks singing, and the song gets better.
St Vitus "Born Too Late" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3K76CN0S4N6J03I9BDZ83ZBVSF)
No discussion of doom can be undertaken without St Vitus!
Guess what, i've lost this album!! After crying for 14 hrs i went off too look for it, cant find it. Gonna have to buy it again. AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH.
Solstice "Cromlech" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0WD7CL2DSTY7W1NH5KK33U5BUC)
Solstice are one of my favourite bands. Its doom mixed with NWOBHM and it's ace!
Good band, currently only own lamentations, which is an excellent album.
Orodruin "Peasant's Lament" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2BJQWNF1CGP8Z2PJD75BNN6MM7)
Another new band who are great. Taken from their debut "Epicurian Mass" - old school doom holocaust!
First time i've heard orodruin. Sweet intro riff, in fact, a sweet song. Good vocals, heavy guitars. Riffs sort of reminscant to candlemas but "fuller" (if you see what i mean). A nice black sabbathy solo. I think i will have to get this album.
While Heaven Wept "The Drowning Years" (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=31YYJZ456R5FY1AJ0LX0FZB3KW)
WHW are at the progressive end of Epic Doom Metal. They've been going ages and singer Tom Philips is one of the best around.
A **** good band. Everything about them is good.
I thought i would add some more songs into the discussions. (Dont know how to upload music, if i work it out, i shall update this post as soon as i can)
Trouble - Trouble - Pyscotic Reaction
Normally i avoid christian bands like the plague. But not this one. This band is very black sabbathy, loads and loads of groovey bluesy riffs. (Althougth notably better singing). And plenty of excellent solos chucked in for ****s and giggles.
Pagan Altar - Volume 1 - Judgement of the Dead
After nice symph intro, a quality riff comes - (You have probably realised up to this point that my vocabulary mainly consists of quality and sweet, you're gonna have to bear with me) - plenty of solos in this song, plenty of nice riffs. Some nice nasally singing which gos perfectly with the music.
Doomshine - Thy Kingdom Come
This new band is definatley worth following up on. This album just blew me away. Cant really say much over the the usual sweet and quality, which doesnt do this album justice.
Mirror of Deception - Forgone - Ship of fools
Nice band this one, sort of like a laymans version of doomshine. Lots of nice simple riffs, with some good singing.
Nice, this post is longer then my A level physics coursework.

Surely this the traditional doom arguement? Along with Reagers vs Wino!
Good band, currently only own lamentations, which is an excellent album.
Both "New Dark Age" and the "Halcyon" EP are excellent. Halcyon is closer to Lamentations - NDA has lots more uptempo NWOBHM moments.
First time i've heard orodruin.
Great, great band. One of the best new bands.

It was me who mentioned it. The band is in fact one person called master warjooma or something. Thinking about it, avant garde probably isnt the right way to describe it. Probably experimental doom metal fits better. It has the odd bit of avant garde, black, folk put into it.

Funderal doom isn't really doom in my opinion. It has it's roots much more in death metal - I certainly don't hear any link to Sabbath, Pentagram, St Vitus etc.
It is incredibly dark - usually very, very slow. Lots of keyboards, lots of screaming/growling, kind of a gothic hint with romantic type lyrics.
I'm not really a fan but bands like Until Death Overtakes Me seem to be good examples of that genre.

What song is that, the cover? It's interesting.
I'm wearing my Candlemass T-Shirt today, the one with the word "DOOM" on the back, and (no joke), some kid came up to me, said "Doom? You play that video game?"
That was a WTF moment.

World below "Sacrifices to the moon" is excellent. Not heard of this band before, i shall look into them. Although the singing isnt anything to write home about, still not bad.
Dont recognize the song candlemass covered.

The song was "Countess Bathory" from "Black Metal". A good cover I think! Very different to say the least!
I'll add some more songs tomorrow. I think maybe a bit of Solitude Aeturnus, Some more Solstice, some Pentagram, some Trouble and maybe, just maybe some Unsilence.

I want to listen to the Unsilence track (and the others, but that one especially), and it'll take me ages to download (especialy since they're doom, and so I'm assuming rather long). Yeah. I know them. Amazing collaboration of Lee Dorian, Greg Anderson, Stephen O'Malley and Justin Greaves. I really recommend 'Rampton' if you like extreme drone and extreme sludge. It's a really dark album, the first song is half an hour, with the first ten mintues dedicated to hypnotic drum patterns over a droning guitar. The last song is a Sunn O))) riff turned into an entirely new song. I got it on cd. One of the best slow heavy albums I've heard in a long long time. Obviously if you like any of the bands those guys are involved with, you'll probably like it anyways.

Stephen's the mastermind behind Sunn O))). He also play's guitar in Khanate, was in Burning Witch and Thorr's Hammer before that. A modern day legend to me.
Lee was in Napalm and Cathedral
Greg, guy that put together Goatsnake. Also plays bass (I think) for Khanate and Sunn O))), and Burning Witch
Justin Greaves was the drummer of Iron Monkey. He's now gone on to be the replacement skinsman for Electric Wizard.

Absolutely. They used to be called Forlorn. And they're playing at Doom Shall Rise and I shall be enjoying them very much!
Played a stoner all-dayer yesterday. It was terrible! God I hate stoner. They all sang in American accents despite being from East London or something. Stupid generic riffs and bouncy rhythms. Needless to say we went down badly for being far too METAL! But the songs they played between bands were ace, Solitude Aeturnus, Vitus, Trouble, Celtic Frost etc.

The only band described here (including Kyuss) that I've heard is Melvins. I had Pigs of the Roman Empire, and I've downloaded about a gazillion songs. Truly genius, I don't know about any of you guys but I've never heard anyone drum with so much force as Dale Crover, the guy is a madman.
So I have no idea what Doom is (yousendit don't work for me), except that Fantomas are described by AllMusic.com as Doom Metal. I also tend to like gothic music (gothic like The Cure, not gothic like Cradle of Filth), so I may have to try some of this stuff out.
