Hi guys. I was wondering if any of you has ahd an experience with the band Winter?

Seems like this is only a doom thread now :( Haven't seen any stoner bands mentioned for pages / months
I've been listening to Bongzilla and Kyuss lately :)

Actually I made a mistake, the only Solitude Aeturnus I have is Beyond The Crimson Horizon.
I have Through the Darkest Hour. I don't really enjoy the vocals, but its only a minor detail.

My Dying Bride and Novembers Doom are easily my favorite doom bands, but I also really like Paradise Lost and Anathema (although I don't own any cds from them), Black Sabbath and High on Fire (I don't know if they count as doom, though). And some of the other doom bands I've heard are Candlemass, Cathedral, Count Raven and Electric Wizard. Eh, Mikael is what makes BMD bad. His growls are just too clean and straightfoward. They don't have that rasp and despair that Renske's have, and it's his vocals that make December Souls such an amazing album.
I'm prejudiced against BMD, because the on the version I obtained, every song is like 20 minutes. Brave is 46. And they are really that length, not just mistagged.

I think it's a great album. Scott Reagers has so much more expression in his voice than Wino.
NP St Vitus - Dark World
ps. I'm in the process of burning a compilation CD of songs with World in the title. Dunno why - I just am. So far I've got:
St Vitus - Dark World, Morbid Angel - World of Sh1t, Corrosion of Conformity - Mad World, At The Gates, World of Lies, Reverend Bizarre - Doom over the World,
And that's all I can think of in my collection so far. But to be fair I haven't looked through to find others yet. An interesting new approach to making compilation CDs though I'm sure you'll agree.
A couple of possibilities;
Black Sabbath - Lord of This World

I got Khanate's self-titled. I don't find it very droney, rather more sludgey, but then again I've only listened to the first song. They're the only "drone" band I've heard that's lived up to my expectations (heavy, hypnotic, abrasive)! Amazing.
I have that one too, great music.
I was quite shocked when I heard the, cause my only drone experience before that was Sunn O))).
I love the vocals on Khanate, it sound s like Chuck, but more insane and raspy.
I've never checked out Things Viral 'cause it doesn't get good reviews at M-A, but than again, how trustworthy is M-A..
SO anyone know if that one's worth picking up?

Any fans of St Vitus - Die Healing?
I think it's a great album. Scott Reagers has so much more expression in his voice than Wino.
Ah, I haven't heard any Vitus past V yet :(
V is possibly my favourite Doom album though. Either that or Epicus.
I never really thought of myself as much of a fan of theirs, but suddenly I find I have three of their albums. Kind of a pleasant surprise. Do you have a favourite?
Almost the exact same thing happened to me.
My favorites are Songs for the Deaf and R. But my favorite song is on Lullabys--You've Got a Killer Scene There Man.
I'd say that R is my favourite QOTSA, but I'm not a huge fan.

Wasn't Reagers before? Anyway I much prefer Wino, I love everything he's been.
Amon Amarth - Versus the World
Anthrax - One World
Armored Saint - Mutiny on the World
Black Sabbath - Wicked World
Black Sabbath - Falling Off the Edge of the World
Bolt Thrower - As the World Burns
Brainstorm - Worlds are Coming Through
Cathedral - The Unnatural World
Eidolon - The Parallel Otherworld
Eidolon - Ghost World
Ghoul - What a Wonderful World
I - Between Two Worlds
Iron Maiden - Brave New World
Kreator - World Ablaze
Megadeth - Set the World Afire
Nevermore - Dead Heart, In a Dead World
Overkill - World of Hurt
Sepultura - Slave New World
Terrorizer - World Downfall
Zyklon - Ways of the World
I really love R. Thier first's good too.
The first one's the only one I don't have.

This is a review about a local band in my area, they're absoloutely amazing
Bomb The Sun – "EP"
It’s no secret that the band Kyuss have been hugely influential on a lot of current bands, although very few have managed to capture “that” expansive desert rock sound to a high level of competence. Step forward, Bomb The Sun. The six colossal tracks here are spread over a whopping 45 minutes, highlight for me being “Not Waving, But Drowning” which sounds like it could have come straight from the groundbreaking “Sky Valley” album but there’s not a bad song on this disc and fans of the aforementioned should be dropping everything and getting themselves a copy of this immediately.
You guys should get into them, they play some of the most chilled out music I've ever heard, very long songs :D
http://www.myspace.com/bombthesun
Yeah, you mentioned them before in here, and uploaded their EP. It's a great piece of music. :chug:

Okay, so I'm listening to some Candlemass.
I was expecting the vocals to be better.
If you don't like the more operatic vocals you could try Saint Vitus. They have more of a crooning thing going on, for lack of a better word. Kind of like Danzig without the Elvis-isms, maybe. The music tends to be slower and more depressing, instead of Epic like Candlemass is.
