Haha, I played Thergothon's Stream from the Heavens album at 200% speed - it's kind of interesting actually :). And as a last note:
Listen to Dolorian people!
Hey thanks for the recommendations, although I have a heard a bit of electric wizard and didn't like it much, also ive heard Grand Magus and I liked them would they be considered Doom?
Also whats the general attitude towards Pentagram in this forum? Not that it will change my opinion, I'm just curious.
Grand Magus is indeed considered doom metal. You might want to try giving Electric Wizard another go - they took a bit of time to grow on me.
The Obsessed
Saint Vitus
Candlemass
Orodruin
Trouble
Reverend Bizarre
Orodruin is bloody great. I love Pierced by Cruel Winds - that section from the middle to the end is so good.
I ended up getting Spirit Caravan - Elusive Truth.
Sweet album, and I've met Scott Weinrich
I haven't actually heard that album, but judging by Jug Fulla Sun, it should be pretty good.

Yeah, I found out about Kyuss because they jammed frequently in my area. Josh Homme went to my high school, and the CD "Welcome to Sy Valley" is in reference to an unincorporated land that is near where I live called (what do ya know) Sky Valley.
Really? How far apart did you guys graduate?

Okay I will. Ill get Dopethrone like was suggested.
Btw I also started listening to my Pentagram CD, and I am loving it, Liebling is one hell of a singer and sometimes can even sound a bit like Ozzy Osbourne, I really noticed that in the song "Relentless"

Yeah, the split is good. The annoying thing that I don't know how to categorise my doom splits - that split could go in the Orodruin folder or Reverend Bizarre. I might just put them all in one folder.

Go by yourself.
Missed = past tense.
I would of normally, but I'm not exactly a huge fan, and it involved a bit of travelling. If it was a band that I had a huge interest in, then I would go on my own without hesitation, but I've never followed Brant Bjork's solo projects until the last month or so.

They were really experimental and out there, especially for their time (and especially for an aussie band). I wanna get one of the new shirts!

Yes! Over here! Subconscious... is awesome, such an angry record. Epistemological Despondency is cool too, the second song is very grindcore/death. I wish they'd bring back the trippy stuff in their newer work.
They sound like a fearsome live band, people have been known to just sit down on the ground and take it all in. And don't they have like 7 members on stage (2 keyboards, 3 guitars, drum 'n' bass)?

I think i've mentioned Swallow The Sun a few times in this thread.
I think they're pretty good.
A Doom/Death band from Finland.
Very good vocalst, I love his deep growls.
I've ordered Ghost Of Loss a while back, the special edition, with a dvd with a clip and some live material, it's good stuff, I can recommend it to fans of doom/death.
I love the lyrics to descending Winter, not all that special but they fit very well with the feel of the music:
Descending winters for all lands,
All hope is gone, in his hands.
out from the north, in to the south,
winter turned his frozen mouth
Swallow The Sun is great.
Their best song is Through Her Silvery Body.

One should not generalize like that, statements like that could e made about every genre.
black metal: Just some guys who can't afford decent recording equipemnt.
death metal: Just playing as fast and hard as you can while just screaming words no one can understand.
rap: just some dudes talking endlesly over a beat.
Drone just requires objectivitiy as every other genre.

Lead & Aether is much better, so is Farmakon. Stormcrowfleet is so lo-fi.
On their later stuff they really show off their talent for creating minimalist soundscapes.
I just got Aes, it sounds brilliant. Has anyone got The Process of Farmakon or the 5th track from Lead & Aether (-Edges-) for upload? That's all I need.

Shape Of Despair.
DFuneral doom is different from normal doom mainly because of the speed, of lack there off.
It's even more slow than regualr doom and creates an even denser atmosphere by layering.
normal doom does this too, but it's more clear in funeral.

Sun Baked Snow Cave? I'm not really into Merzbow, although I liked Merzbirds. It's nice to listen to now and again. I think I've managed it about three times, but I get bored of it after a while.

The opening riff in Unas Slayer of The Gods is a Candlemass riff.
Their Sabbath medly is pretty lame, IMO.
So what. I always thought of it as just a 'for fun' thing, not something they really practiced.
I was just saying. I like them otherwise :)

If you get bored by Black One don't bother to get any other albums.
Black one is thei easiest to get in to album, with short songs and a bit more coherent songwriting (for Drone that is :p ).

It took me time to get in to it too, don't worry.
It's just black one is already their most accesible album, so make sure you can enjoy that before you check out other Sunn O)))
Also, you might want to check out Funeral Doom, it has the uber slow tempo of Drone, but with more melody, that might appeal more to you and makes it easier to get into the genre. :)

Is there anyone heavier than Electric Wizard? If so, who?
Jondur
08-03-2006, 04:27 AM
'Heavy' is a stupid descriptor. You can't measure heaviness. What is 'heavy'? Is it a thick, bass-heavy sound? If so then we'd all shut up after Crowbar or some gay... sorry I mean funeral doom band.
If 'heavy' means an apocalyptic feeling of doom, then Black Sabbath 'Black Sabbath' is heavier than anything released since.
I think you should all listen to Mirror of Deception. I had a very pleasant musical experience on my way to work listening to their excellent 'foregone' album. So much so though that I sat in the car park for an extra ten minutes just so I could listen to the sublime 'bleak' one more time.

For ages I've searched for a Funeral Doom band that didn't try to turn it into something depressing and instead make really powerful, monolithic behemoth-like tunes.
Wormphlegm's Tomb of the Ancient King and Catacombs' In the Depths of R'lyeh have given me exactly that! Brilliant!

Is there anyone heavier than Electric Wizard? If so, who?
My elephants band feat. Mr Rhino on drumkitz
Anything can be heavy, heavy is more of a feeling, like a lot of wizard riffs are crushing when the drums kick in but then again so is Ty Cobb by Soundgarden because its so fast and pounding
Anyone here ever heard Queen Elephantine? They're awesome, they've got two albums, the epic Ramesses and another self-titled one I believe. I'm not sure if they're exactly doom metal, but they're certainly some type of stoner/doom rock band. Really good stuff.
They do a lot of improvisational stuff, but I think they're working on another album which will be more composed. I like their spontaneity though. I believe they're touring Australia soon.

It's hard to recommend anything that really sounds like Skepticism, cause they have such a unique sound.
