Right just on the off chance that any of you fcuks are in the UK and can sing or play bass:
Singer with strong clean vocals and bassist needed to complete doom metal band.
Influences include Solstice, St Vitus, Celtic Frost, Dio
If you are interested please email me: jonathon_gibbsAThotmail.com and I will send you some rough demos so you can get an idea of the sound.
Cheers
Jon

Nepenthe
08-03-2008, 12:32 AM
let me guess! the freewheeling and carefree brother with the hedonistic and womanizing lifestyle, whose only real ambitions in life are getting drunk and scoring with chicks. which of course clashes with your characters sensibility and very linear lifestyle, creating pure comic gold week in and week out!
moltenlava
08-03-2008, 12:36 AM
Yep. 'Cept you forgot about the part about you having half a brain.

oh yeah. well yknow my memory just aint what it should be. having half a brain and all.
moltenlava
08-03-2008, 12:43 AM
The season starts out with you having the whole, complete brain. But, in a series of follies which your character comes to be known for, you throw out the other half of the brain in that box of junk in your garage you said you were getting rid of for like two years...Then, the real comedy ensues.

I can't believe it, but you guys totally got me regressin' back to infancy. It's funny, but ya got me speaking your poo-poo language...But, I do like that I can split my dual nature here at Sputnik. Obviously the Rock/Metal forum is mostly for the dull bulbs who can't count past twenty or spelss their names corretcly. It's mostly one sentence statement and answers. With a lot of pass/fail talk which substitutes for actual dialogue...
Then, ya got the Politics, News, Issues section where actual thought and ideas take place. And, people can exchange actual ideas which require actual thought over there. But, sometimes ya do feel like being mindless and playin' with the infants in the sandbox, and that's what this place is obviously for. Just make sure ya clean the feces off your fingers if you're gunna touch my shirt. And, when do your moms come by ta feed yo baby azzes?

On it now.. Can you think of any other similar bands? Doom bands with more atmospheric melodies?
rasputin

check out Worship, Mournful Congregation, Doom:VS, Shape of Despair, Colosseum for funeral doom with emphasis on atmosphere. Except Doom:VS is only a little bit funeral doom. but still good

I'm pretty new to this genre, but it snapped me up as soon as I heard Kyuss for the first time (don't slap me, I was hibernating) a few months back.
I'll read through the thread and get a few more bands checked out - my boyfriend's a massive High on Fire fan, easy access to le tunage.

Kyuss one has on good album and even then its not that good. HoF is \m/ though
Band you should check out:
Sleep
OM
Candlemass
Saint Vitus
Reverend Bizarre
Pentagram
Witchfinder General
Trouble
Solitude Aeturnus (already mentioned)

Blues for the red sun was the first album I heard, and definitely my favourite. I have come across much better to be fair, but it's the album that tickled my fancy with the genre so I can't complain!

Question - has Jesu been mentioned anywhere here? I've been into pretty much anything Justin is responsible for over the last few months, and I'd consider a lot of Jesu to be pretty doom-laiden and melancholy but in a very bittersweet way.
Any thoughts?
StonesOfOctober

Jesu full-lenghts are pretty awesome, but some of the eps and splits are kind of bad.
yeah, jesu is pretty popular around here. I personally love Jesu, silver, the split with envy and the self titled are my favorite Jesu albums I think...
DiamondRope

If I had to choose one, it'd be Silver.
I love remembering when I first heard Jesu though, it was a cathartic experience.

That actually looks a bit poetic, that list. Yes, darkly poetic. You should call it Faustus. Me likey Faustus.
Silver's probably my favourite Jesu as well.

No way. It's decent, but not an essential SA album.

Adagio doesn't have the songs of the earlier records, the production is just fantastic. THE doom production - the sound is so dense and powerful.
Usually I don't care too much about production but I can't think of a better produced album.

anybody heard of Blood Ceremony? im really digging their self-titled debut that just came out this year. traditional doom/stoner album with female vocals and...yes...a flute player. it actually adds a nice touch. kind of reminds me as if Camel joined forces with a stoner metal band with a female singer. the keyboards are pretty nice too

Subconscious Dissolution Into The Continuum is my favorite.
But The Maniacal Vale is also very good.
i like esoteric a lot, but their albums are sort of interchangeable in a way. maybe i need to listen to them more
They bore me to tears. Seriously, their albums are wayyy too damn long, and they release the same stuff over and over again...that's how i feel :(
i agree to an extent--but when I'm in the right mood for them, I love them
i dont even worry about listening to a full album. i just put it on until ive had enough, usually about half or 3/4 of an album

Exactly

I somewhat agree with you, but that's why one album by them is sufficient.
Which Esotric album should I start with?
You should start AND finish the The Maniacal Vale, that's the best. Some others like Subconscious Dissolution Into The Continuum, but I think it's only a little better than average. Just get The Maniacal Vale and that'll be more than enough Esoteric.
nah, Metamorphogenesis and Subconscious Dissolution into the Continuum are better
ok, ive been listening and i was a little shortsighted. they're not interchangeable and they both rule.
