Drone Doom? Is that anything like Funeral Doom, because I nearly committed suicide listening to something called Ahab - Call of the Wretched Sea. Holy snap, son! That schitt droned on and on and on. Directionless, plodding misery. I ain't needin' none a dat. That's for dang sure.

OK. So I heard some of the Nadja, and if by Drone you mean HISSING and FUZZ for seven to fifteen minutes at a clip, then yeah, no, I'm not so interested. lol. I want DOOM! dammit. I loved the most recent Candlemass and Aeturnus as Traditional Doom recordings. And, I wasn't about to argue at all with what Trouble did with mainstreaming their old sound. The songs are all memorable on 'Simple Mind Condition'. Just great, melodic songwriting. I'll have to look into some 'Witchcult Today'. Someone named a few obscure names a few pages back. I wanna know if there are any bands which are being unfairly overlooked. What's a Doom band that should be as popular as the three groups I mentioned? And, who said that Kyuss sucks a couple pages back? I had to dig out some tracks from Blues for the Red Sun and Welcom to Sky today. These albums are great.

Actually, I was calling Narnia fuzz, hiss and reverb. I don't have a name yet for Ahab. But the nomenclature will certainly revolve around the desire of the listener to put blade to wrist. I'll listen to it one more time, but I have a feeling that I won't survive the ordeal to post my comments.

07-14-2008, 05:04 AM
Well Warning had some sound problems but Warning with a dodgy guitar lead are still better than 99% of other bands. Pagan Altar had no such problems and played a blinder.
If you don't know Forsaken then you should check them out - you're only 18 years too late to the party!
I think I know Forsaken.
Jondur, you like Iron Hearse? I just got into them.

Yeah total Obsessed worship. Played a gig with them a few years back. they were pretty good live as well - great guitar tone seeing as their gear looked like knackered crap. You can download most of their stuff from the Bland Hand website.

Pat,
013 has decided not to let Warning play due to protests of Aaron of MDB. seems that you have sent him deaththreats in the past and attacked him as well...sorry man!
Manuel
In light of WARNING being dropped from the Dutch "Ashes to Ashes" festival, we have this to say. My Dying Bride are a bunch of cowardly underhand spoilt brats, it only proves that they are truely scared that their time in the spotlight is now over, and will do anything to prolong the agony they inflict on the hundreds of listeners worldwide with their pathetic and feeble excuses for "music".
The truth is, that it was Pat's cousin, Rich Walker who attacked Aaron "Pubehead" Stainthorpe, and threatened oily guitarist Hamish Doublecross. They are clearly shaken by WARNING's popularity, and cannot bear the thought of having the piss blown out of them live by a so called "lesser" band.
We raise our hats to the buffoons in MDB, and thank them, and the so called promoters of the "Asses to asses" festival for showing their true colours yet again. Well done, you are simply not worth pissing on if you were on fire. ****ing cocksuckers the lot of you.....
Hahahahah. I like Miskatonic's response. Truly gay as ****, though.
Jondur
07-16-2008, 03:15 AM
Yeah that's gay as you like. Anyone who's ever met Warning will know that its bollocks. Yeah Pat Walker is the size of a small block of flats but he's not the sort to go round twatting people for no reason. MDB and Solstice have been feuding since Towards the Sinister so I reckon they're just using this to get at Rich.
In unrelated news - check out Nomad Son. Hear a couple of tracks here: http://www.metal-on-metal.com/home.html

I didn't think it was Pat Walker who said anything either... he doesn't seem to have a tad of aggression to him. It didn't surprise me when it said Rich was the one - considering some stuff I read, he doesn't seem like he has a problem with conflict.
That is still lame that MDB would throw a fit over something so petty though.

well if i count all the cds that were stolen from me than yes. i have a friend who's dad owns a record shop in Riverside and i get a whole bunch of good deals there. lots of metal and such. a lot of my prog rock albums were given to me from a neighbor who was giving away all his music (he went bankrupt). so ive had some help getting a lot of cds. also friends, family, and a girlfriend help me out every birthday and christmas. i order a lot to, i set aside $50 from my tutoring every month to buy a few albums that i have been wanting.
i should update it though because i have gotten rid of a few cds (the ones with low ratings)

I gotta get me some o' them. Which is the best album to start with? They were a 70's band, no? I don't know anything about those guys, other than they had something to do with the formation of Doom. The band Witchcraft, who I love now, by the way, began life as a Penta cover band. I read that the core of Witchcraft's sound is still steeped in the covers they once performed nightly....Based on the recommendations in this thread, I started checking out samples for Grand Magus' new one. I like them, but I'm really suprised at the guitar tone that they go with. It's not what you typically associate with Doom. How long have they been at it?

In news from bands I am or have been involved with: New Unsilence album will be recorded in August. I've heard a fair bit of it and I think it's a return to form as the last demo was a bit experimental for my likeing. The River are still looking for a new singer so their album is postponed indefinitely as I think they're looking to rerecord the vocals with the new singer whoever he/she may be. yeah seriously wtf is up with uarals song that is just somebody crying?
and i cant believe i forgot to recommend forest of shadows to the person looking for folk influenced doom. practically the best folky doom there is. i recommend where dreams turn to dust as the first album to look into. excellent, excellent stuff.

Try in Bunalti, I think they have a couple of albums.
Bunalti - "we have the discography of every band" (and our rar passes are very tricky).

Yeah old Empyrium would definitely be up your alley, Uaral are decent but their harsh vocals are pretty bad and they crying this is a bit much.
I already have the Empyrium albums. I really like Uaral's deep growls. Yea the crying thing is kinda weird. Gonna try Estatic Fear.

Oh, c'mon now, playa. You're not serious, is ya? I'm spinnin' that one above all others. Absolutely love the most recent release. Actually, and undeniably, that recording has more melody than everything preceding it. And, the riffs are pretty much on par with their best stuff. By best I'd be comparing it only to Nightfall, Tales of Creation and Ancient Dreams. Don't know any others. I think I'll be going for the self-titled one next...But, love me that new Candlemass album. I'm gunna listen to them all again, but I really think I might be favoring the Grey Islands. Love me that vocalist from Solitude A. And that probably factors in.

and ashes against the grain is actually the least 'doomy' of agallochs material. the mantle has alot more aspects of doom in it. ashes against the grain is more 'folky' post metal than anything.
