I won't consider them as the "darkest band" either, Brian, but they are great - i need more of such music. Metal 24/7 annoys me after some time... thats the main reason why i started to listen to a lot of drone, ambient, doom recently, cause i need this Ying in my agressive Yang of Metal. :)

CANDLEMASS guitarist Mats "Mappe" Björkman has been sentenced to two years in a Swedish prison for grand theft, reports Realtid.se.
He was convicted of stealing CDs with a retail value of SEK 3 million (approximately $490,000).
According to prosecutor Mats Jansson, Björkman and and his accomplice Stefan Håkansson skimmed CDs from Entertainment Network Scandinavia AB (ENS), where they both worked at the warehouse. ENS handles product distribution to retail outlets and wholesalers throughout Sweden for the four major labels.
Over a period of several years, Björkman and Håkansson shipped the stolen merchandise to two Stockholm retail outlets who were also allegedly involved in the scheme.
In November 2005, a music company contacted ENS regarding a discrepancy in Björkman's reported sales. ENS investigated the matter and discovered that someone had manipulated the company computer on 301 occasions.
By checking Mats' employee/entry card, ENS determined that the musician's log-in information had been used to access the company's computer system in 279 of these instances.
Mats Björkman denies the allegations and claims that someone else must have used his entry card. But his accomplice Stefan Håkansson has admitted his role in the theft and has implicated his colleague.
The scheme was uncovered after a tip was received that the record stores in Stockholm were selling CDs that were shipped from the Borås-based warehouse for a much lower price than those sold by their competitors.
The information about the weight on orders had been manipulated to conceal how much merchandise had been delivered. A package that according to the computer system contained 8 CDs in reality turned out to include more than 100 CDs plus a few box sets and DVDs.
According to the prosecutor, Björkman was the one that was in contact with the retailers and that received the money for the transactions.
The agreement between Mats and his accomplice was that they were to split the profits — which were estimated to be SEK 1.3 million (approximately $213,000) — equally.
Mats stated in court that he doesn't undertand why Stefan would lie about him being involved in the theft scheme but he thinks it might be because Håkansson was trying to protect other people who might have been responsible for stealing the merchandise.
Before he went to court, Mats told the local paper Borås Tidning, "I'm innocent, no question about it."
During the court proceedings, he continued to deny his involvement in the theft while the other man confessed.
Based on the evidence, the court concluded that Håkansson had no reason to lie about Björkman's role in the scheme and determined that prison was the appropriate punishment for both men.
Björkman's accomplice received a sentence of one year and nine months.
They better get a replacement rhythm guitarist for their US tour.
Come to think of it, I'll be free then.....

Good choice, any new material on the way?
RB is one of the best doom bands ever. I love all the albums I think I listen to Harbringer or Return to the Rectory most.
We've got like 6 new songs written. The new album should be out late in the year.
We're working with a new band now, that's the reason for the WoR delay.

Nah, I agree with you on that.
Radiance Of Shadows is a very good album, especially Now I Am Become Death, The Destroyer Of Worlds slays, the fat, thick production on that song owns so hard.
Besides that, I really recommend Bodycage and Truth Becomes Death, to get into them. Get Thaumogenesis if you have had the ones mentioned before.
Also the remake of Touched is recommened material.
It's difficult to go wrong with Najd,a but I guess I'm sort of a fanboy.

Well I haven't downloaded the new Ufomammut yet, but based on the things that everyone's saying in here I should probably get on that quickly.

Their new album is miles better than their older one. The old one had the shittiest programmed drums ever, while this one is just better produced.

yeah ive only heard their new one and it is really solid. i might check out their old one just because. they kind of remind me of a mix of Evoken and Swallow the Sun, but more on the Evoken side

I'm having trouble explaining to my friend what stoner metal is. He seems to completely neglect the metal part, and keeps asking my why Sublime isn't 'stoner', because stoners listen to it.
This is my life.

Just tell him it's like, really bluesy fuzzed out metal with the occasional psychedelic slant. Or something idk.

I'm pretty sure he musically hopeless. He's convinced that this years Bonnaroo is like, the best music festival ever put together, and that Jack Johnson will not make it a complete bro-fest.
AFragileHope

lol haha. Jack Johnson makes me laugh with his easy attitude to absolutely everything in life. Surfers...
Stoner metal is basically metal with psychedelic influence and classic rock/metal (like Sabbath) influence too, melded together to fuse a wonderfully dense, progressive sound imo. Look at Cathedral.

Doom noob here. Lookin' for some suggestions. I don't really want the kinda "depressed" doom metal if that makes sense, but more stuff kinda like Buried At Sea.
Right now, the only doom I really listen to is Electric Wizard (got Dopethrone last week and love it) and Swallow the Sun.

You dont want "depressed" doom but got Swallow the Sun? Weird, I havent listened to them much because I think they're shite, but I donno, I'd consider them "depressed".
Go for the bigguns. Candlemass, Reverend Bizarre are huge around here.

you started right where I did. I came in here after a few weeks of listening to Dopethrone. Get Conference of the Birds by Om.

Naw, I kinda consider Swallow The Sun "depressed" sounding too. I just mentioned I listen to them already, but I don't really want more stuff like them.
I guess I should check out Candlemass, I do hear a lot about them. Not sure why I never checked them out before. I haven't heard of Reverend Bizarre though so I'll check that out too, thanks.
Edit: oh yea, I have Om already. I forgot to mention them.

You have to be a pretty big faggot to get depressed by Reverend Bizarre and Candlemass.
rattlehead42147
03-31-2008, 09:30 PM
Om aren't depressing, at least not to me.
Candlemass definitely can be at times, ftlog listen to Marche Funebre. Even though they didn't write it the whole Nightfall album has that "funeral" feel to it. Reverend Bizarre definitely aren't upbeat by any means either.
lol Justin I don't mean depressing as in xsuicidalx want to kill yourself or something, they're just not very happy sounding bands. I mean I know they're not Nortt or Ahab or something like that but they're both DOOM metal bands.

Om aren't really doom metal based on that album and it isnt really that good anyways.
Of course Candlemass and Reverend Bizarre aren't upbeat, it's ****ing doom metal. There's a difference between being "depressing" and being "doomy".

true true. that album is good, although mostly the first song. but they are stoner which was pretty much the only reason I mentioned them in the first place.

If you're looking for doom metal that's not "depressing" (whatever the **** that means) then I wouldn't bother with Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Johan has the most naturally depressing vocals on that album, despite the lyrical themes.
Get Nightfall, it's the best Candlemass and is the best album in metal.
