I'm only on Bhima's Theme, but so far it's been really really good. The first song seems a LOT more stripped down than both previous albums and Unitive Knowledge of the Godhead basically just blasted me in the face with overwhelming stoner intensity.

Yeah... I'm diggin it so far.

The "To sun glides the albatross" line is just too classic.

NemesisDivina

its like that for every band that has a vocalist

possibly, but that's not how i look at every band's vocalist...

Om's vocalist is basically speaking in a monotonous voice so as to not distract too largely from the music while still being a driving force in the rhythm.

Eliminator
09-28-2007, 06:56 PM
boring to focus on boring?

Kage
10-01-2007, 06:04 PM
I don't like it as much, though. Dopesmoker is just so majestic, or something. And the lyrics are awesome/hilarious/absurd. The best part is the way he chants them, though.

ATM
10-01-2007, 06:05 PM
Well, Dopesmoker is definitely the best. But I have no problem with really long songs as long as they are entertaining.

Kage
10-01-2007, 06:06 PM
The hour length doesn't bother me much, because I'm just grooving the whole time and I don't even care...it could stretch on to infinity as far as I'm concerned. I zone out to it and it's just epic.

The only thing that I don't like about it being an hour long is that whenever I want to listen to it, I have to make sure I have an hour to do so.

Kage
10-03-2007, 12:09 PM
What do you mean by "very ambient"?

Luc214
10-03-2007, 12:12 PM
Well, ambient elements.

Like instead of just a power chord droning on for 15 minutes, you add other layers to it, different sounds, etc.

I'm probably doing a shitty job of explaining what I mean.

Hmm, take for example Sunn O)))'s song Bass Aliens. There's a distant sound of plucked strings, accompanied by some static/noises that come in every so often, and there's a bass rumble that comes in at different frequencies.

It has a very atmospheric sound.

the2stranger

the Trouble drummer, Jeff Olson, has a new band called, Retro Grave. The line up kicks ***... saw this on Blabbermouth recently... it's a remake for Trouble's "Run To The Light" I guess he has some new **** coming out too.

Jeff "Oly" Olson (TROUBLE, RETRO GRAVE) has tapped Vincent Wojno (TROUBLE, MACHINE HEAD, KREATOR, TESTAMENT) to produce and engineer the first two RETRO GRAVE albums. The debut CD, now simply titled "Run", is a re-arrangement of TROUBLE's "Run to the Light" (originally issued in 1987 via Metal Blade). Special guests on the "Run" album include former TROUBLE bassist Ron Holzner; members of RISE TO ADDICTION, TROUBLE and NOVEMBERS DOOM; Kyle Thomas (ALABAMA THUDERPUSSY, EXHORDER, FLOODGATE); Leif Edling (CANDLEMASS); Sammy Duet (GOATWHORE, ACID BATH); and up-and-coming guitarist Mike "Rebeard" Schermuly.

"Run" is currently being recorded for an early 2008 release. A record deal is being nogotiated, the details of which will be announced in the very near future.

Kyle Thomas briefly fronted TROUBLE in 1999 and is "a welcome addition to the 'Run' album," says Olson. "All of my guests are very talented musicians that I'm psyched to work with, especially my new friends from the UK, RISE TO ADDICTION [who toured with TROUBLE in Europe earlier this year]. These guys are hard-working and extremely talented group of guys, as [is] my new permanent guitarist, Mike 'Redbeard' Schermuly from Portland, Maine."

Samples from the debut RETRO GRAVE EP can be heard at www.retrogravemusic.com

Also Worship's Last Tape Before Doomsday is somewhat similair.
ALthough no FD band ever managed to get as bassy and muddy as Skepticism on that release.

It only annoys me in the second song, and I skip that song anyway. I know that's what I told you but I've grown to like the production on the album now. /shrug

BAND ON HOLD INDEFINITELY-

During the last few weeks, I have had to face a very difficult reality...as it stands, I can no longer make music. The break to my already damaged right hand has not healed correctly. As of now, I can't play drums at all and I only have a limited ability to play guitar (and I cannot bow at all). Even with surgery, a recovery that would allow me to play well enough to continue the band is not assured. Such a surgery would also require extensive muscle reconstruction and bone resetting and will take an estimated year and a half to 2 years to heal.

I have made music for the last 12 years...nearly half my life. I've done The Angelic Process for nearly 9 of those. When I think about who I am without music, I don't really know. Sometimes, something is so much a part of you...

But to get to the point, The Angelic Process has been put on hold indefinitely. There is nothing else that can be done about that. We have also managed to sell out of all the copies of all the reissue albums and most of our supply of the other albums. We will no longer be selling Angelic Process merchandise through our website or Decaying Sun site. This may change in the future, but as of right now, we need a break from everything. The stress and amount of energy that have gone into making this decision have left M and I drained and in need of a recovery period. All the orders that have been placed will be filled and everyone will get their order, but no new orders will be excepted from this point on. Any new news or updates about the band will be posted here and on the website.

We want to thank everyone for everything. We have met so many amazing people because of the band and our life has been improved so much by those interactions. I so want to name everyone and thank them personally and I'm sure I will in time, but right now I just want to get this post over with.

This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. It feels like a part of me is dying. I am sorry to everyone who loves this band as much a we do. I'm sorry to everyone who will never see us play live. I'm sorry to everyone...
