Trouble were fantastic last night and the set list was very good. I even managed to shake Eric Wagner's hand! :thumb:

I'm gutted that I missed this one. I have the Live at Stockholm DVD and they look like such a great live band. How Eric sings that good while smoking constantly is beyond me.

People who don't like Trouble are most definitely not metal.

I just got a few albums in the post, most of them doom-related. Listened to a couple; Burning Saviours were great, groovy 'retro' heavy rock. Centurion's Ghost are, so far, great as well. They remind me a bit of Thee Plague of Gentlemen, I think. Excellent name, anyway. EDIT: Actually, just got to the end of "Misery Serenade" - they remind me a lot of ..Gentlemen.

Of the rest, I'm expecting one to be droning, maybe funeral-like doom, one to be Sabbath-esque proper doom, and one to not be doom at all. I hope I'm right; suppose I'll be letting you know.

Pale Divine.

Great band.

I'm still working towards getting albums by Saint Vitus and Trouble and so on, but they all seem to be out of print, limited availability and so on.

Should be fairly easy to find Trouble albums as the first three were reissued recently. Similarly Southern Lord reissued St Vitus "V" so that shouldn't be too hard to find.

the others may prove more problematic. If you really want them and are willing to pay - I can find them for you.

I did find some kind of reissue of an album or two by a band called Mercy, which claimed to be along the same lines, but I've never heard of them. Are they any good, do you know?

The name, titles, lyrics and so on are all "based on the sacral texts of ancient civilizations.. recreated according to the results of archeological research". the2stranger

Akerfeldt is pretty good in Opeth, buthe sounds too clean for Katatonia.
Renske didsuch a greatjob with powerfull, emotive vocals on DoDS.
A bit more rough and full of emotion, yes.
Renske is high in my list of favorite vocalists. I really enjoy the way he's singing now too, but still woldn't it be great if they recorded another doom/death album? We can always hope.:(

Nepenthe

Nepenthe

It's not supposed to be original. And it's not supposed to be stoner either, it's a straight up, unoriginal, no thought involved doom album.

Niflheim
06-18-2007, 05:17 PM
Ok, I know that. It doesn't sound cool at all. It is just plain boring. Witch is a perfect example of a fun, catchy stoner band.

Nepenthe
06-18-2007, 05:22 PM
They didn't become a stoner metal band in the 5 minutes since I told you before that they weren't.

Niflheim
06-18-2007, 05:24 PM
Well, they are in no way traditional doom, so it is safe to say they are closer to the stoner doom side of things.

Nepenthe
06-18-2007, 05:34 PM
They're much closer to traditional than they are stoner. They have much more in common with Sabbath and Witchfinder than Sleep and Om.

Txus

The Sword album is ok. End of the story.

Niflheim
06-18-2007, 05:54 PM
Witchfinder were pretty much a proto-Stoner band anyways. When I think of Traditional Doom I think Candlemass and Pentagram, which The Sword have nothing in common with. I don't really care what you or whoever else classifys them as, they have a sound that isn't a stretch to be considered stoner doom. The vocals, sound of the guitars and riffing is quite similair to stoner doom.

Nepenthe

i find the sword boring, when i saw them live supporting clutch they were good, very powerful but they have no dynamics whatsoever so the whole

riff - fill - breakdown - halftime - back to first riff

gets really tiring after 2 songs, its like they use the same formula for every song, strange that they get more attention than other bands with more talent :(
