Well i am using audacity on an laptop with Windows 98(i am still having trouble so in this thread you could help with that too). But my question is would I be able to use monitors from the laptops headphone jack? Any help with recording through Audacity? You all might have seen my previous thread.

There are two forms of monitors.

Active, and Passive.

Active do not require a power amp, Passive do.

I doubt a passive monitor would work from a laptop of pc, but you would probably be able to do it with active monitors.
This could cost you anywhere from 30 pounds, to well over 1000.

What is your audacity problem?

Could you reccomend me a good pair of studio monitors(link). I am using Audacity on a laptop with windows 98 (unsure on other specs as to i was given this after it was finished being used by a company). It has a mic input in the back(i believe its a mic symbol almost postitve) that is 1/8 inch. I have a 1/8 inch adaptor but my guitar still will not record. Can you help? BTW i live in the US.

Those might do you well.

I can't give you a technical explanation why, but guitar into microphone in probably isn't a good idea. Moaner can definately give you better advice on that however, I shall collar him when he appears on msn.

NONONO!!!

don't plug the speaker jack into the laptop, you'll fry both.

you're best bet, if you don't want to spend too much, would be to get a behringer guitar DI, I think its real name is "behringer DI100 guitar DI"

Its a DI box with speaker simulation. you could plug your amp's phones jack into it, and plug that into your mixer to go to record.

alternatively, you could probably plug the hi-Z output on the DI into the mic in on your laptop, and get reasnoble results.

If you're semi serious about portable "project" (trying to think of a beter word thanhome) recording, a USB audio interface with a mic pre-map or 2 in it would be a good buy. As would a mixer, like a behringer UB1002 or similar.

If you're only recording guitar and don't want to buy much, the Behirnger x v-amp costs about £45-50. It has amp and cab modelling, as well as built in FX. you could plug it into your laptop's mic in, or into an audio USB interface, and it'd serve you well.

Thanks moaner Rep++.
/ Is there a cheaper usb audio interface? That seems a little out of my range. :upset: Do I need a special amp for the Vamp 2 or can i just use teh V amp to record?

you don't need an interface

it'd just be nice if you were gona do a lot of recording.

v-amp to laptop will be fine.

with a v-amp, the DI would be unnecessary for guitar
