I'm wanting to get into computer recording but I can't make much sense of all this stuff. I'm just wanting (for right now) to record acoustic guitar and vocals. Can I just get a decent soundcard (I'm thinking a creative sound blaster) and get a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter and plug the mic in directly? Or do I need to get one of those USB Interface things? Or what could I do for the best quality?
I already have some decent recording software, Acid Pro and Audicity.

for the longest time i only had my soundblasterlive (which came with the gateway computer...back in the day) and acid pro 4.0
i would just use the computer mic that came with it....(for acoustic)
for electric..i'd go guitar-->pod--->soundcard
so yeah..you should be fine.
(IMO)
anyway...you won't sound "professional"...but to just get your ideas down, yeah..should be fine
right guys?
i "upgraded" to a tascam us-122 (i think thats the number) anyway...it has 2 inputs (left and right) and has phantom power (is that what it is?) to bring a mic level up to line level? (for the microphone)
