I was recently sick for a while and I did a lot of coughing, you know, the kind that feels like a needle is being scraped along the inside of your throat. If I recall, before I could go fluently up and down the notes in falsetto, but the thing is, I still have a stuffy nose, but the sore throat is long gone. The thing is, when I sing in falsetto, some notes I can, but others, more of the higher ones, my voice just goes to a whisper. The problem is, i cant really remember 100% certain, but I am PRETTY sure, like really sure, that I could before I got sick for a while.

So my questions are, am I growling wrong and has that damaged my voice maybe? Will it take a while to recover? Or have I always had the whisper when I go a lot higher. I am talking like in the middle of my falsetto range. The lower notes in falsetto I can sing, and like the very high ones I can too, but if I go from low to high, I fall short to a whisper, anyone know why?

HOw long ago were you sick? If its within the last week and you still have a snuffy nose then your cords are probably still swollen...They will swell more as you sleep and the mucus from you nasal drains onto them. Then youre still trying to growl or do heavy vocals and youre just swelling them up more. To go falsetto your cords have to thin out. if they are swollen you can pull as hard as you like but they're not gonna thin but so much.

Relax...let your condition get better. Dont rush back. Youre not doing yourself any favors. So if youre like me and you absolutely must sing to some degree every day unless youre on your death bed or something similar, then just sing with a llight tone and push, not to try to accomplish high expectations. just vocalize and keep the cords moving. do scales up and down and do lots of EEE's at normal push and tone.

And while youre resting you can go to the voicehelp hotline in the jams session links stickie and read up. Especially the part on mucus and singing with pain.
