I have a ska band, and we're looking to buy some horn mics. I'm not referring to instrumental mics, but the ones that clip onto the bell, and the cheapest we've been able to find these are $150+. We don't have a very big budget, so those kind of prices are out of the question. I was wondering if anyone knew of any place I could get some for cheaper. Thanks in advance for any help.

The cheapest I know of is the sennheiser e608. But ask yourself something, why are you being specific about clip mics? If you simply got a mic stand, you could make do with an instrument mic with a freq resp of 50Hz-16kHz, something like an AKG D440 would cost you alot less and will have a more than decent enough SPL for brass and woodwind.

Most of the time I've seen Ska bands play, the horn section have just got a few dynamic instrument mics up on a mic stand infront of them.
They've less freedom to move around on stage, but it is certainly a cheaper and easier way of doing it.

We've been using mic stands for a while, and we'd like to open up our possibilities on the stage. Around here, we have a reputation for putting on quite a show, and we want to keep things fresh. But, if we can't afford it we'll find other things I guess.

You could always use dyamic mics and use gooseneck mic holders? This would basicly give you the freedom of the more expensive brass mics in allowing you to clip to the end of your horn or sax and then bend it to any posistion you want. Something like the Master Flex C5?

I didn't know they made that sort of thing, we may end up going with something similar. It seems like it could work, being fairly cheap. (unless I'm converting to dollars wrong).
