I recently got this guitar at Christmas as a replacement for my Squier Affinity Strat. I was looking for more of a 'rock' tone so humbuckers seemed the way to go. I was ooking for versatility as well so the coil tap was a bonus.
Soon as i got it out of the box it played great. It felt great you could tell a lot of work ahd been put into the set up. The strings felt just in the right plce.
After playing the suqier constantly for a year i could tell the difference between the necks. The neck feels a lot longer than the squier so it takes a while to get adjusted to it.
Its got a strong tone to it expecially the bridge humbucker. The coil tap seems to just lower the output of the pickups and the difference is really noticible with a clean sound on. Harmoincs both pinched and natural ring clearly and the sustain rings on and on.
The looks are very pleasing on the eye, with a nice Maple cap on giving a good finish. The binding is of a good standard and really adds something to it.
On the 12th fret there is an X symbol which looks pretty good as there are no otehr fret markers.
As the first time i played a guitar with no fret markers i didnt know if i would cope very well but i couldnt tell the difference so never let that stand in the way of you and your dream guitar.
The tuners are good and i havent had a single tuning problem.
the neckpickup can appear a bit bassy at times and unclear but a simple EQ change can adjust that. You can get some nice thick lead tones out of the neck and some erally biting lead tones as well out of the bridge.
The coil tap seems to make the pickups seem hollow on the clean channel, not really my thing.
I Play it through a FM212R (Fender 2x12 combo 100 watts also very good) whos distortion hasnt gained a lot of good publicity but i would say thats down to bad handling of the EQ as ive got some great tones out of it.
For most styles this guitar is great just for cleaner stuff i would advise a strat or something similar.
Any Questions?
Sonds; 8/10
Looks:9/10
Value:9/10
Playability: 9/10
One minor flaw is the headstock which doesnt look that amazing but thats just in comparison with the rest of the guitar that is so beuatifully crafted.
