i need to hear punk lyrics

hi, i'm new here and i'm having trouble writng lyrics at the moment as i'm having some writers block and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions,
also i'd like the names of some members who write punk, just to get an idea of what a great songs format should be like. :thumb:

Don't write punk lyrics. They are bad %99 of the time. If you are in a punk band, do something original like writing actual GOOD lyrics to punk songs, and maybe people will notice you. But if you just do the normal punk nonsense, lyrics are definitely not a problem. I could write a punkish song in five minutes with whatever words come off the top of my head.

There are too many threads about punk lyrics these days and you all are very wrong about what you think punk lyrics should be. It is not the crap you here on the radio; infact it is the exact opposite. Punk did not start as a music, it started as an ideal. That ideal is sex, drugs and anti-pop culture. Therefore, pop-punk equals exact opposite of real punk.

If you want to write punk lyrics you have to take a look at the masters of punk... ex. are the Dead Kennedy's.

Punk is not a specific sound. People got that idea from the media. You hear those rebel bands like the Ramones and assume that is how it sounds. Three chords verses. That is not the case.

Listen to bands like Sonic Youth, Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground, Dead Kennedy's. They are true punk.

Therefore, if you want to write great punk lyrics than you have to look at society. Study the way people live and point out why people are followers. Take pop-punk. It is based on being an individual, which means if everyone wants to be an individual these days then that is the norm. If that is the norm than you are a follower of people who aren't followers. That can't happen. It's called an oxymoron.

When the media made punk popular, punk ceased to exist. Punk Rock is DEAD!!!

My advice, write your own style, don't try to be punk rock, cause if you try you will be a lame-O and that is the opposite of a true punk. You can't try to be punk; you either are or you aren't. It's not about the lyrics or the sound/style of the music. It is who you are that makes you punk. Don't be a poser.

Listen to the Misfits, especially the Danzig era. They are just good lyrics in general and could work in several different musically stylings or as poetry alone, and have influenced 1000000000000 different artist. They should give you an idea a something you might want to shoot for.

Depending on the message of your political song it may be considered punk. It doesn't matter about the style of music. You could have a country sound and be considered punk if your most of your lyrics go against the system, but remember going against the system these days is the cool thing to do, so that example wouldn't be punk.

Listen to some Mojo Nixon with Jello Biafra. That sounds like honky tonk music to me, but it is definatley P.R.

Doesn't matter where you live, if want someone to tell you how to write punk, you have no business talking about punk, much less trying to write it. Part of the point of it is that noone tells you how to do it. And I don't know about that suburbia comment, look at Greg Graffin and where he grew up.

i agree with ur second statement but not necessarily the first. i think ppl form middle class back grounds cna write lyrics taht are political or if they are in connection with the working class write lyrics that are actually punk. If they have the ability and experience class does not necessarily matter and ist better than white middle class kids writin about how sad they are cos they are reasonably well off.

I agree with this. Listen to these bands, read their lyrics and see what they write about... but it isn't just about the topics that they have. You have to read between the lines; see what type of emotion they are trying to get you too feel. The topics that bands, such as DK, had are out dated now. You have to look at society today and go from there.

so you think punk is a fashion? do you have to dress and act "punk" to write punk. i say no. if your pissed at the goverment, or your parents or whatever and you write about are you punk, but you live in a big house and have nice clothes so you say they arent punk. but what the hell is punk. i know people who just turned to this "punk thing when the day before they were in hangin with the football team. most people do it just to get noticed, or topiss someone off. either why there is no such thing as punk, punk music or anything with punk in its name. who would want to act depressed and anger all the time. it just makes no sense to me. so to me if someone writes rebellious music, no matter who they are, they are just a pissed off individual.
