I wanna hear some 101'ers stuff, but it's been super hard to find. So far all I've heard is Surf City and that 15 second clip in Westway.

The 15 second clip in Westway sounds awesome .
And I'm the king of Clash whores :).

i wrote a super long post and my computer ****ed up.lame :upset:
i have a couple 101ers songs somehwere on my computer so i can send them to you when i'll find them.I also got the whole Eartquake Weather album on slsk.Havent listened to it yet.
I've read a story of a girl who wrote a good review of EW back in the days and when Joe went to LA, he called her to go eat something with how. That's just how nice he was.And this cute story of a guy who was drinking behind the venue with his friends after a show and Joe came out and asked them if they wanted to play with his telecaster, so they played guitar and after, Joe asked them if they wanted to go to a party with him but they had a bus to catch...years later, the same guy was in a band opening for Joe cause Joe inspired him to start a band. How cute.

:lol:i've found my first post in this forum ever.december 1st 2004.
I understand that some ppl now think the clash are not punk. But back in 1977, they were. And anyway, they were writing political songs. And I respect them a lot cuz they included other styles in their music, and they didn't give a **** what ppl were saying about them."Ohhh they're not punk anymore"'...they must have heard it wayyyyy too often.
The Clash is my favorite band.
No matter is they're punk or not.
Just look at how they never wanted to reform the clash even for all the money...i think it deserves a lot of respect.any band would have decided to take the money and to forget their convictions.but not the clash.
 i was already a clash whore.
EDIT:this is andy clash thread police speaking: i wont be there tomorrow clash city rockers, but dont spam this thread too much heh :p

I dont care what anyones says that the clash arent punk , they are just idiots.
Joe Strummer practically invented the other (sensible) side of punk (the opposite of the sex pistols pure wank off music)
Every clash song is punk in some way, there is no who ever lived who is more punk than strummer. no one will ever ever meet the bar joe strummer and the clash set not only for punk but music in general.
The Clash did not "sell out" because they didnt change their music they just added different styles to their palette of greatness. The Clash never changed labels and fired their gay manager who try to screw with their sound on Give Em Enough Rope
The Clash released london calling cheaper than a double LP and it was selling for the price a single LP , in doing so they lost royalties.
The Clash also released Sandinista! , a triple LP for the price of a single LP , in doing so they never got paid for their work on that album.
name one band who can match that!?
The bands so called "hits" are dubious. Train in Vain is a mo-town number NOT a POP song and it wasnt even put on cover. Rock The Casbah is not even remotely close to being a 'POP' song because its not a simple melody and the lyrics arent "POP".
Should I Stay or Should I Go Now? is a three chord pop song. okay! thats not bad to have one pop song out of your whole body of work. The ramones did alot of stuff that can be considered POP styled but they dont cop flak about it do they?
In Summing up my Rant I say the famous words of Joe
"I will always believe in punk rock , because it is about making something for yourself" (not something for others in a rigid gay elistist punk form).
The Clash beleived in what they were doing , and they stood for something important.

article found on internet...i feel like i'm gonna puke now.
London, Saturday 4th January 2003: Rock widow COURTNEY LOVE upset friends
and family of late punk rocker JOE STRUMMER with some extreme behaviour at
his funeral service.
The singer and actress turned up at the West London funeral of the former
CLASH singer on Monday (30DEC02) only to be refused entry to the private
crematorium.
When she was eventually let in, after much protestation, Love horrified
onlookers by throwing herself on the coffin, and was pulled off by British
TV presenter MARK LAMAAR and PRETENDERS singer CHRISSIE HYNDE.
A source says, "Joe's family and friends looked on horrified. It was as if she was trying to upstage everybody.
"Even when she was outside, she made sure everyone was looking at her, waving her umbrella in front of her face every so often."
Love, 38, appeared with Strummer in the 1987 film STRAIGHT TO HELL and is in
London to take over the role of LADY MACBETH at the ALBERY THEATRE alongside SEAN BEAN.
LONDON CALLING singer Strummer died aged 50 on December 23 (02) in Somerset from a heart attack.

I've just discovered something very weird:
The cd tray picture (the picture behind where the cd goes) for the self titled album, has Joe, Mick, and Paul standing with their backs facing the camera and their hands on the wall. Joe's jacket reads, "1977."
As I was watching Westway, during the DIY part, I noticed the EXACT same picture, but instead of reading "1977" Joe's jacket reads "Hate and War"
I own the US release of the first album. Is this the same picture for the UK release? Did the record label try to censor "Hate and War" from the American version because they thought it too blunt for American listeners??!!??
p.s. in my opinion, Hate and War looks much cooler

I can answer the jacket question. Joe's jacket did originally say "Hate and War", but when the record label was going to post the picture in the album, they changed it to "1977" because they thought "Hate and War" wasn't suitable. Bastards. I hate censorship .

Townie is a youth subculture from england. They are usually lower to lower middle class, and wear cheap track-suits and huge gaudy fake jewlery. They tend to be found more often in bigger cities in London. They listen to rap and the new fad in england, trip-hop. They like to stab people, especially people of other subcultures, such as mods, punks, metal head, whatever. If its in a city you'll be ok as most of them are just skinny kids who smoke too much, but if its at school or something you can't really fight back, or he'll, as my friend matt puts it, "get his loser dad or older brother to give you a good kicking, because they all have older loser friends/family".

ahahah do you know what the official them song to the world poker association is?
The Card Cheat! I laughed when I heard. :)
There's a solitary man crying, "Hold me."
It's only because he's a-lonely
If the keeper of time runs slowly
He won't be alive for long!
If he only had time to tell of all of the things he planned
With a card up his sleeve, what would he achieve?
It means nothing!
From the opium den and the barroom gin
And the Belmont chair playing violins
The gambler's face cracks into a grin
As he lays down the king of spades
But the dealer just stares
There's something wrong here, he thinks
The gambler is seized and forced to his knees
And shot dead
He only wanted more time
Away from the darkest door
But his luck it gave in
As the dawn light crept in
And he lay on the floor
From the Hundred Year War to the Crimea
With the lance and the musket and the Roman spear
To all of the men who have stood with no fear
In the service of the King
Before you met your fate be sure you
Did not forsake your lover
May not be around anymore
(Slower)
There's a solitary man crying, "Hold me."
It's only because he's a-lonely
If the keeper of time runs slowly
He won't be alive for long
Joe went to jail for hitting that guy in the audience , but that dick deserved a tele to the head anyway.
Joe actually talks about it in Midnight Jam on the Streetcore Album.
Midnight Jam is an instrumental song with a bit of joe speaking in it.

I was considering "Remote Control" for a short time, but it's really the Anti Clash song.

If Mick got to write every Clash song by himself, things wouldn't of turned out so well.
"I'm so Bored with You" "1-2 Crush on You"
Without Joe, the Clash would've invented emo.

I love the mixing on the vocals. When you're listening to it with your headphones on, those backup vocals sound really outstanding
great song

It's clearly about Johnnies if you listen to the lyrics.
standing in the bog of a west end bar
guy on the right leaning over too far
money in my pocket gonna put it in the slot
open up the pack see what type i got
i didn't want to hold you
i didn't want to use you
protex, protex blue
all wanna do
it's a fab protective for that type of a girl
but everybody knows that she uses it well
it's the therapeutic structure i can use at will
but i don't think it fits my b.d. drill
sitting in a carriage of a bakerloo
erotica my pocket got a packet for you
advert on the escalator on my way home
i don't need no skin flicks, i wanna be alone
i didn't want to hold you
i didn't want to use you
protex, protex blue
all i wanna do

lets keep the songs secret and if someone already choosed it, we just have to take another one...
can we use meskies songs too?cause i think their lyrics are even better than the clash lyrics, in a more subtle style maybe.or joe's stuff with the latino rockabilly war...or his solo career?

Sure, anything written by any member of the Clash is fine :thumb:.

Word for word lyrics!
Revolution Rock!
It is a brand new rock
A Bad Bad rock , this here Revolution Rock!
Careful how you move mac , you dig me in the back
and im so pilled up that I rattle
I got the sharpest knife
so I cut the biggest slices
but I have no time for battle...
Everybody smash up
your seats and rock to this
brand new beat
This here music mash up the nation
This here music cause a sensation
Tell your ma, tell your pa
everything's gonna be all right
Can't you feel it? DON'T ignore it
Gonna be Arl-righ-hai-haight!
Revolution rock, I am in a state of shock
So bad, bad rock, this here revolution rock!
Careful how you slide, Clyde, all you did was glide
And you poured your beer in me hat
With my good eye on the beat, living on fixation street
And I ain't got no time for that. Hey!
Everybody smash up your seats and rock to this
Brand new beat
This here music mash up the nation
This here music cause a sensation
Tell your ma-ma, tell your pa everything's gonna be all right
Can't you feel it? DON'T ignore it
Gonna be Arl-righ-hai-haight!
Revolution Rock!
Yeah so!....get that cheesegrater going.....
against the grain....
wearing me down.....pressure increase.
Everbody!
Everybody smash up
your seats and rock to this
Brand new beat,
This here music mash up nations
This here music cause a sensation
Tell your ma-ma, beget your pa-pa everything's gonna be all right
Can't you feel it? DONT ignore it
Gonna be Arl-righ-hai-haight!
Revolution Rock!
To the coolest mobsters... in kingtown!
And the hardest guys... and the coolest girls
Is your heart so made of rock ,
that the blood must run around the clock?
Are you listening mobsters?....
Hey!...All people crawl gotta die! Whole cart of food goes rolling by
its food for thought mobsters~young people shoot their days away , ive seen talent thrown away!
Are you lone shark?..................The Organ Play!....And their dancing to the brand new beat!
This here music mash up nations
This here music cause a sensation
Tell your ma-ma, tell your pa-pa everything's gonna be all right
Can't you feel it? DONT ignore it
Gonna be Arl-righ-hai-haight!
I said A Revolution Rock!
Theres that old cheesegrater.......rubing me down
This must be the way out?!........ (something intelligible)
o-la o-la -ola!
(o-la o-la -ola) (paul?)
(o-la o-la -ola) (paul?)
Any song you want! played request at the band stand!
(o-la o-la -ola) (paul?)
(o-la o-la -ola) (paul?)
El-clash combo , pay fifteen dollars a day!
Weddings , parties , anything......and bongo jams a speciality!

I think once I get my new HD (Wednesday) I'm going to go on a mission to get the entire Clash discog. And anything else I can find along the way. What I have so far:
Combat Rock
Give 'em Enough Rope
London Calling
The Clash (UK Version)
Mescaleros stuff:
Streetcore
Global A-Go-Go
Sound like a good idea?
sketchyjoe
04-16-2005, 03:11 PM
Everything except Cut The Crap.

When I go for discogs, I even get the crappy albums. I looked up the discog on AMG and realised I only have 2 albums to get, 3 if you count the US version of their s/t. Maybe I'll do it before wednesday.

You've got to get Sandinista, Super Black Market Clash and The Clash (US). There's also some live albums.
Brain Toad
04-16-2005, 03:18 PM
I just saw Super Black Market as I was searching will get that one. I'll try my best to get as many live albums, and maybe even some bootlegs.
sketchyjoe
04-16-2005, 03:19 PM
The Clash on Broadway is a good live album as it's got loads of stuff on it.

So I can get London Calling for $7 or the Anniversary Edition for $13, it it worth the extra price for an average Clash fan?
sketchyjoe

London Calling is brilliant on its own but if you've got the money then it's up to you.
