the only one ive read so far is Let Fury Have The Hour: Punk Rock Politics of Joe Strummer and it's good, but it says the same thing over and over again in different words. It's a great book if you want something to make you realize the impact of Joe on the society.
I think i'll get Passion Is A Fashion next month cause it seems pretty interesting and maybe Vision Of An Homeland, the book on the mescaleros.
Thanks for that. I'm going to buy let fury have the hour.

And also, I've noticed for some reason that on all of the Clash's live performances, it looks like Paul is singing, but you can never hear him.

I play the guitar and i'm trying to teach myself how to play again because i haven't played in years. can anyone tell me is the bass easier to play than the guitar.
Forest_Fire
04-04-2005, 06:56 PM
In my opinoin, it is much easier
guns_of_brixton
04-04-2005, 06:59 PM
I'm taking photography next year .
And to white riot, I personally think bass is easier, but thats probably only because I learned guitar then bass, and I never really took any lessons. But then again, Paul Simonon started playing bass because "it only had 4 strings and was easier." If Paul had learned how to play guitar, Joe would've never joined the Clash .
EDIT: crap, I suck at smilies.

I play the guitar and i'm trying to teach myself how to play again because i haven't played in years. can anyone tell me is the bass easier to play than the guitar.
no....
its just as easy as you make it..
bass the string gauages are about 3 times as big as guitar strings meaning you have to push down harder...the fretboard is bigger which makes streches harder..but yes bass can be easy if you play stuff like blink 182..were as if you play stuff like Jaco Pastious or Les Claypol bas can be very hard...but im not saying bass is harder than gutiar..there as hard as you make it...(if you take this to the bass fourm..they can give you a billion and one reasons)
and to dustin i play a fender p bass special :thumb:
Forest_Fire
04-04-2005, 07:46 PM
nice. I have a squier p bass and I'm looking into buying a fender j bass becuase I like the tone.
And I have an awesome ska strap on my bass. I think I have a picture of me somewhere on my computer playing it, but I don't have photobucket so I can't post it
Silvermedalmafia
04-04-2005, 07:49 PM
If you know how to play guitar, bass seems easier. Same if you know bass, then switch to 6 strings later on.

I play a Fender Standard Strat if anyone cares. I was going to get a Telecaster, but I changed my mind.
My bass is a Washburn that I got used at some place and has somebody's name carved into it. It sucks for playing without a pick, but it sounds sweet when I play the Magnificent seven :thumb:.

You could use anything from Know your Rights.
"Murder is a crime! Unless it was done by an police man... or an aristocrat... oh... these are your rights!" That's probably way too long, though.

True, and Joe was also sick of seeing McDonalds' on every strret corner.
I may be wrong, but were the Clash the first band to ever criticize the American government eith I'm so Bored with the USA? Because it would be pretty ironic for an English band to be the first ones the criticize the US.

I finished the book.So here's a little review.
Let Fury Have The Hour: The Punk Rock Politics Of Joe Strummer.
It's a great book...it explains really well the impact the clash and joe had on people from all generations and society. It's articles, essays (sp?) and interviews with Joe.There's also an interview the clash did with sniffin' glue back in 77.It's pretty interesting, and I learned a lot of things. It talks a lot about politics (the name of the book...) and society in the 70s.Joe's philosophy was the best...We should call it Strummerism... :p
we talked about how joe is in heaven if it exists, and if joe believed in heaven...in one of the interviews the interviewer asks Joe "well, you dedicated your last album to Joey Ramone, where do you think he is now?"
Joe: "in heaven"
interviewer: "you believe in heaven?"
Joe: "maybe not for me, but for Joey Ramone, sure!"

i forgot something...if you dont cry while you read this, you dont have a heart.Joe was so nice to everyone, I cried at every chapters. It's not sad...it's just beautiful to read what people had to say about him.really touching.(woah i think i just made a really bad translation of 'touchant' and it probably means something else than what i want to say)

I hate each and every one of you.
I just got back from the bookstore. They had two Clash books there, one was "The return of the last gang in town", and the other was "Joe Strummer and friends". Both were over $20 so I couldn't get either

Meantime, We're cutting our hands
On the ke-bab shop
In the streets of fear
Forgetting all those best
Tai-kwon-do moves
On a barrel of beer
We trying to get a signal
Through from Ragga F.M
Do the D.T.I
Bust CNN?

Joe and Jello did meet. I SWEAR I once saw a pic with Jello, and the Clash. I forgot where though .

The Clash definitely knew of DK. There's an interview in which the interviewer asks Joe if there's such a thing as an american punk band and he says no but Mick says "What about the Dead Kennedys?"

Yea, I want to read that.
I also read an interview where the interview asked Joe if he liked any straight edge bands. Joe said something about not being sure what straiht edge was because "In England we like our beer and cigarettes!"
EDIT: 2000th post in the thread! :chug:
