I forgot the joke, cause wasn't really paying attention until it showed the London Calling thing. And John Stewart is a comedian.

Clampdown is probley my fav. the lyrics are soooo amazing.

Truth, just the way he sings it so fast and full of emotional.

I love the way Joe could could convey the message of the song through his voice, it was so emotional. Like in "Train In Vain", he sounds genuinely hurt.

Truth.

I was glancing at this book at the library about the 100 Greatest Album Covers Ever (or something) and they had London Calling. There was all sorts of cool info about the album on it. For example:

Paul smashed his bass so hard on the cover, he broke his watch. As a souvenir, he gave it to the photographer.

(may not be 100% correct, I read it a while ago)

Chickenpox=a rash type of thing with little red bumps that usually only kids get, but it can be deadly for adults.

/me does some research on Keith Levene

After The Clash, he worked with Sid Vicious. When he went to the Sex Pistols, and then died, Johnny Rotten and Keith worked on Public Image Limited. He continued to work with other punk bands, before starting a band with Glen Matlock in the late '90s. That folded, and now he works on a website called Missing Channel, as a "creative outlet."

from the punks vs reagan thread.

Not just punks hated him. Lot's of people did. And punk back then had liberal politics, in general. Perhaps if for no other reason then if you were anti establishment, you were anti Repubublican. Just like today. The Clash were straight out Communist in there political leanings and made no bones about it. And if you were a punk back then, just as now, why on earth would you support that dickhead Reagan any more then you want to support dickhead Bush? They go hand in hand.

They play a few different songs at the beginning of the dvd, and Junco is one of them.

And I think at some point (maybe after Joe died) that they started selling the records at normal price. I would pay $24 for Sandinista (thats how much it is at Best Buy). Think about it: it might sound like alot, but 36 songs for $24 is better than 10 songs for $12 (GEER).

But I think I the clash had thir way they would give their music away for free. They just wanted people to hear it.

I was reading somewhere that Sir Bob Geldolf said that The Clash were sh'it. What a wanker.

Irish rocker SIR BOB GELDOF has accused his former contemporaries THE CLASH of being a s**t band who faked their punk image.

The ex-BOOMTOWN RATS star is still bitter the SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO hitmakers came to epitomise the serious punk revolution in late 1970s Britain, while his band were marginalised.

Geldof rages, "The Clash had outfits designed for them. But somehow they were supposed to have more integrity? Why? This ersatz passion was just b**locks.

"I didn't like their records until LONDON CALLING (1979 album). I said 99 per cent of the music is s**t and I was right. It hasn't survived.

"All that 'Hey right! The revolution!' tripe drove me mad! F**k off, you c**t. JOE (STRUMMER) and MICK (JONES) wanted to be MICK (JAGGER) and KEITH (RICHARDS)!

"Plain as f**king day! Yet we were frozen out."

It's the album that must not be named. Supposedly it sucks, but I haven't heard it.

What do you guys think of Give Em Enough Rope? I hear lots of people say that it ain't so good, but I think its great. It has some of my favorite songs. Stay Free is one of my favorite Clash songs.

EDIT: I HAVE FINALLY PASSED 200 POSTS!

"None of us is going to change anything. Everyone goes "Punk! Hurrah!" But in three years time what do you think I'm going to be doing? What do you think the guys who buy our singles are going to be doing?? I'll still be walking around muttering to myself. They are still going to be shovelling **** down some old chute and maybe with their wages they'll buy The Clash's fourth album. Rock doesn't change anything." -Joe Strummer

I'm pretty sure that they're not talking about CTC at all in Westway. It's not even in the discography...cause it wasnt really one of their glorious moment. hum.

It's in the discography.

It's a pity The Clash never put out more singles. All I hear on the radio is "London Calling," "I Fought The Law", "Rock The Casbah", and "Should I Stay Or Should I Go."

That and "White Man In Hammersmith Palais" are my two favorites song off their debut. Such a fun song.

I have the U.S. version. I'd like to hear the U.K. version, but I wouldn't wanna pay full price for it.

white riot, next time you're in R & M, check the YSI thread, that Iggy Pop song is up.

The US version has some better tracks (White Man, I Fought The Law etc) but it's not as choesive an album as the UK version.

"(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais" makes the US version a lot better. It is one of, if not the most, political song ever to be written by them.

It's a song about unity based on going to a reggae concert and being the only white person there. It's by no means their most political.

I'd say some of their more political songs are Complete and Remote Control.

Complete Control is about their record company. It's not that political.
