The Guns of Brixton

When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting on death row

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton

The money feels good
And your life you like it well
But surely your time will come
As in heaven, as in hell

You see, he feels like Ivan
Born under the Brixton sun
His game is called survivin'
At the end of the harder they come

You know it means no mercy
They caught him with a gun
No need for the Black Maria
Goodbye to the Brixton sun

You can crush us
You can bruise us
Yes, even shoot us
But oh-the guns of Brixton

When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

You can crush us
You can bruise us
Yes, even shoot us
But oh-the guns of Brixton

Shot down on the pavement
Waiting in death row
His game is called survivin'
As in heaven as in hell

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton

Death or Glory

Now every cheap hood strikes a bargain with the
world
And ends up making payments on a sofa or a girl
Love 'n' hate tattooed across the knuckles of his hands
hands that slap his kids around 'cause they don't understand how

death or glory becomes just another story
death or glory becomes just another story

'N' every gimmick hungry yob digging gold from rock 'n' roll
Grabs the mike to tell us he'll die before he's sold
But i believe in this-and it's been tested by research
he who ****s nuns will later join the church

death or glory becomes just another story
death or glory becomes just another story

fear in the down sex
they say lie low
you say ok
don’t wanna play a show
no other thinking
would you get that boy now
playing the blues of kings
sure looks better now

death or glory just another story
death or glory just another story

From every dingy basement on every dingy street
every dragging handclap over every dragging beat
That's just the beat of time-the beat that must go on
If you’ve been trying for years we already heard your song

death or glory becomes just another story
death or glory just another story

gotta launch long way
fight a long time
get to travel over mountains
got to travel over seas
we gonna fight your brother
we gonna fight til you loose
we gonna raise trouble
we gonna raise hell
we gonna fight your brother
we gonna raise hell

death or glory becomes just another story
death or glory becomes just another story

hear me hear me!

death or glory just another story
death or glory becomes just another story

I couldn't decide betwwen DEath or Glory, Complete Control, I'm so Bored with the USA, or Know your Rights. :chug: Happy 100 pages!

Not a pratically fantastic song, but this was the first Clash song I heard that made me change my mind about them and made me like them a lot and made me go out and buy their first album.

Janie Jones

He’s in love with rock ‘n’ roll, woah
He’s in love with getting stoned, woah
He’s in love with Jaine Jones, woah
He don’t like his boring job no…

He’s in love with rock ‘n’ roll, woah
He’s in love with getting stoned, woah
He’s in love with Jaine Jones, woah
He don’t like his boring job no…

An’ he know what he’d got to do
He know he’s gonna have fun with you
Lucky lady!
But when the evening comes when his job is done
He’ll be over in his car for you

He’s in love with rock ‘n’ roll, woah
He’s in love with getting stoned, woah
He’s in love with Jaine Jones, woah
But he don’t like his boring job no…

In the in-tray lots of work
But boss at the firm always thinks he shirks
Be he’s just like everyone he’s got a Ford Cortina
That just won’t run without fuel
Fill her up Jacko!

He’s in love with rock ‘n’ roll, woah
He’s in love with getting stoned, woah
He’s in love with Jaine Jones, woah
But he don’t like his boring job no…

An’ the invoice if don’t quite fit
There’s no payola in his alphabetical file
‘Sept for the government man
This time he’s really gonna show the boss
Gonna really let him let him know exactly how he feels
It’s pretty bad!

He’s in love with rock ‘n’ roll, woah
He’s in love with getting stoned, woah
He’s in love with Jaine Jones, woah
But he don’t like his boring job no…
No
No
No

Apparently Billy Bragg's been going around doing Joe Strummer tribute shows, I'll keep an eye out for a bootleg.

Also, you probably know this, but Joe's guitar is now in the possesion of one of the guys from that communist skinhead/soul band, The Redskins. Who are really good.

We should try to get everyone in the punk forum to post their favorite song and lyrics.

The first time I remember hearing anything by the Cladh was when I was about 6 or 7 years old and Should I Stay or Should I Go was on the radio.

Not sure, Billy Bragg said at one of the tribute gigs that it broke his heart when Joe gave his guitar to the guy from the redskins, because Billy really wanted it.

But I heard from alot of people he bought it at an auction.

I hope the first one is true.

THe crappy alternative rock station here played Clampdown once. And at Laser Quest they always play Clampdown when youre in the 'battle zone'.

NOOOOOOOO!

it breaks my heart...i know they were talking about giving it to one of his fan (a musician) so his guitar could still play great music and change the world or something like that.they took this idea from some other dude who died and his guitar went to another musician...but i didnt think they would do it for real...if i was his daughter, this guitar would have mean so much to me...meeeeh.at least, i hope this guy take care of joe's guitar.

This is a public service announcement
With guitar
Know your rights all three of them

Number 1
You have the right not to be killed
Murder is a CRIME!
Unless it was done by a
Policeman or aristocrat
Know your rights

And Number 2
You have the right to food money
Providing of course you
Don't mind a little
Investigation, humiliation
And if you cross your fingers
Rehabilitation

Know your rights
These are your rights
Wang

Know these rights

Number 3
You have the right to free
Speech as long as you're not
Dumb enough to actually try it.

Know your rights
These are your rights
All three of 'em
It has been suggested
In some quarters that this is not enough!
Well..............................

Get off the streets
Get off the streets
Run
You don't have a home to go to
Smush

Finally then I will read you your rights

You have the right to remain silent
You are warned that anything you say
Can and will be taken down
And used as evidence against you

Listen to this
Run

"I Fought the Law"

Breakin' rocks in the hot sun
I fought the law and the law won [x2]
I needed money 'cause I had none
I fought the law and the law won [x2]

I left my baby and it feels so bad
Guess my race is run

cool'n'out-mescaleros

Late news breaking this just in...yeah, cool 'n' out!
God sure baked a lot of fruitcake, baby,
When Adam met the Eden lady,
They're walking the streets
And they're driving cars
They're all over the country
And they're running ours,
They're walking on the wounded who won the war,
What's the matter people,
Was it worth fighting for?
Fix that gauge or you run out of gas,
A cool operator can make it last,
Say from here to Indiana and across Illinois,
We're rockin the girls and a-boppin' on the boys,
And I spot a little bitty on a little bam bam,
That pill poppers hopping on a city bound tram...
The stars go in, and the stars go out,
And punk rock what is's all about,
And even when you're just-a-chillin' out...
You're wondering
W-w-w-w-w- what's it all about?..
Cool 'n' out.
At the G7 summit, well we've got some 25,
And we're putting it into the gin supply,
We want a satellite crashing outta the skies,
And a firework display by ballistic missiles,
I got a sneeky feeling
That the poker's getting hot
Cos twice times bitten..
And it's a third time shot.
Oh, the stars go in, and the stars go out,
And punk rock what it's all about,
An' even when you're just-a-chillin' out...
You're wondering...
What's it all about?
Cool 'n' out...
What's it all about?
Cool 'n' out.

I prefer Joe and Johnny's version because it's just means so much more now they're both dead. It's like these two legends coming together with a message from the grave. And as much as I like Strummer, his voice isn't the strongest but it works well complementing Cash's.

Maybe put it down somewhere over the other side
See it gets to Jimmy Jazz (See)

Now, Where's Jimmy Jazz?
I said, hmm he was here but uh,
He said he went out
Who is it they're looking for?
Jimmy Jazz, Jazz, Jazz, Jazz eh

Cut off his ears and they'll chop off his head
Oh you're looking for
Jimmy Jazz, Jazz...

What a relief!
I feel like a soldier,
But I look like a thief!

Don't you bother me, not anymore
I can't take this tale, oh, no more
It's all around, Jimmy Jazz

It also stinks that he died like 2 or 3 months befor the Clash were inducted into the rock 'n roll hall of fame.
i think it may be a good thing though...i'm sure they would have been great but it could have give them the idea to make a tour.when joe broke his record deal with sony, the condition was that if the clash ever reformed, sony was in control of the band again.

yeah, but i understand why the first thing joe did when he got money was to get his teeth fixed.and he was hxc, so he had an excuse.and he also had an excuse for being weird and fat.

Yeah, he was old.

Old people get fat and look weird.

Except for Moses. Dude was like 900 and had the body of a 14 year old, because he sweated to the oldies.

Hence the song Get Down Moses.

You see, everything fits together. :thumb:

Coma_Girl
04-30-2005, 09:31 PM
ohhh, i see...Moise...Whoa..I dunno...I didn't expect that, it doesnt sound like moses at all in french.Hmm...I'm not really religious at all anyway

You at least believe in some god, right?

I mean, I'm not a faithful practitioner or anything, but I do believe.

You need some sort of spiritual tap in, or you're f'ucked.

Coma_Girl
04-30-2005, 09:36 PM
I believe in my own God...It's not a religion...I just believe that each person has his own God, and at the end, we all have the same God, but in fact, God just doesnt exist...It sounds confusing, but I'm just not good enough in english to use the word I'd use in french.

I know we've talked about it before...but was Joe into some kind of religion? In an interview, someone ask him where he thinks joey ramone is now, he says: in heaven. So the interviewer ask him if he believes in heaven and he says :not for me, but for joey, sure

SlappedByTheClash
04-30-2005, 09:44 PM
I'm sure he was into it in some shape or form, but it's pretty hard to find the right religion nowadays.

Coma_Girl
04-30-2005, 09:52 PM
I don't know...to me religion represents a bad form of authority. He probably believed in something cause it's impossible to believe in nothing.Maybe he just believed in truth and justice.

But whatever he believed in, I'm sure he went straight to some kind of heaven.

You guys heard about Viva Joe Strummer yet?

And also, Joe's widow is releasing unheard 101'ers recordings later this month.

It sucks how much people are appreciated only after they're dead.

Fewer people are posting in it and less frequently. I'm not getting on MX as much either. It's warmer out now, expect less people on here.

If I had the artistic or creative skills, I would make a Mescaleros shirt or clash shirt. But I don't, so I won't
