hey,
my band recently kind of found out who was going to sing lead, backup etc. the thing is im probably going to be singing backup which is kinda cool i guess. but our drummer is going to be singing lead and playing drums at the same time which i think is cool but a little weird at the same time. i wanted to sing like 1/2 lead i guess. like sing some verses and what not. but i still need a little singing practice and tips so i can get better. the guys in my band arent just like "yeah whatever you can sing." but they are cool about people wantin 2 sing. but back to the point i wanted some tips and things from you guys so i can actually get pretty good at singing so i have a chance of being able 2 sing. help would be appreciated.
thanks guys. :thumb:

what kind of music are you playing? If it is rock then consider what type of voice you have and mimic someone you sound like in that genre (like rock). If you are young then it may be hard to get a rock voice like nirvana without aging your voice alot. A bad way to get this voice is to smoke a lot, but I wouldnt recommend that of course. If you are looking more towards a solid yetunique tone, sing with someone like 3 doors down a lot. I am a recording engineer and have recorded both, and the techniques all depend on how you want your voice to sound and what voicebox you've been blessed with. Remember that every voice can be successful as long as you can sing in tune...thats definitely the biggest thing.

A singing drummer isn't weird. I have been singing lead (95%) and drumming in my current band for 8 years. I love it, and nothing is taken away. I actually prefer doing both over just fronting or just drumming. Lots of singing drummers out there. I can name at least a dozen off the top of my head.
Sorry, as for pointers on singing? That is something best left to a vocal COACH, that can actually here you.

Start out with some vocal lessons. Read some material in the voice help hotline. Also, what instrument do you play? If you play guitar or bass, or keys, or anything non-percussive for that matter, practice singing scales along with your instrument. Warm up, relax when you sing, and never push more than you need to.

like atreyu. The singer does the verses because he can't sing properly, he screams em, and the drummer does the choruses.
