This is a set of 3 Lindy Fralin Vintage Hots pickups RWP middle pickup. The neck and middle pickups are wound at 6K and the bridge is wound at about 10% stronger at 6.6K. Magnet used? Im not sure but these pickups are pretty bright sounding so im assuming alnico VI. Mark Knopfler uses these pickups to give you an idea of how quality these are.
How do these pickups sound? The neck pickup is a very nice warm pickup and with the tone rolled off a bit it nails Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower" sound. It handles chording very well to and sounds nice with a light overdrive like a TS-9. With the neck and middle pickup on it gives a little thicker sound nice for appregiating chords or playing with a medium overdrive, smooth sound but still very straty. With just the middle pickup on is my favorite sound in this set, absolute vintage strat sound its beautiful, nails the SRV clean sound on the intro to "Little Wing" and sounds great with all my overdrive pedals. With the bridge and middle pickup on its got tons of quack hit the skynyrd "Gimme Three Steps" tone here, I didnt like this position a ton because of the massive amount of quack it had but it has its aplications and loses some of the quack with the tone rolled down. In the bridge position it does a good Hendrix bridge pickup tone minus the nasty icepick sound he sometimes had. It also sound nice when playing overdriven power chords, its very tight an focused in the bass frequencies.
Who are these pickups for? People who want a set of high end stratocaster pickups that nail the old vintage strat sound. Fans of the vintage strat tone, Hendrix, SRV, Knopfler, Buddy Guy, Gilmore, you will absolutley love these pickups. If you primarily play clean or slightly overdriven these are the strat pickups for you.
