Anyone on here an avid golfer? If so whats the best round you've had on the links. I've taken a 4 year hiatus from playing seriously and this summer im starting back up playing daily if possible.
So anyone play? What kind of gear do you guys have? Any special tips that we could share would be great.

From Scotland so golf is in the blood.
Best Round - 83 on a par 70 which is pretty poor really.
tips for short game - on flat if you hit a 7 iron a third of the way to the hole it should roll out to the cup. 9 iron hit half way and same result. Wedge two thirds of the way same result.
Swing tip. Roll up a towel and put it between your arm and body when swinging. If you can prevent the towel falling you should have decent swing.
Putting - put clubs three balls widths apart in parallel and put along this. If you don't hit the clubs on the ground then you should be putting straight.

Excellent good advice man, 83's not bad at all be easy on yourself!
davser

Should be better but there is always at least one hole where the drive goes at right angles and I rack up a seven or eight. Then the head drops for a couple of holes and you try and hit the ball too hard etc etc.
Great game though. Nothing better than putting a wedge in to under 20 feet from distance.
Get any chances to go to any tournaments?

I'm ready for spring. All this snow and cold and rain is crap. I wanna go golfing. I suck though. My best score was a 48 (9 holes). I never have time to play a full 18. I've got some really old ghetto clubs. I don't even have a full set. I had thought about buying a new set of irons this year with my bonus but I think we're going on a vacation so that'll probably eat up the majority of my bonus.

Golf is bloody awesome, shame I suck at it so bad. I shot 127 on a par 73 today :upset:. Im not too bad with my irons, but my chipping and putting is pretty poor, and I have what seems like an incurable slice with my driver. Hopefully im gonna play a lot more this year, so maybe I might improve a bit. :thumb:
Bout time there was a golf thread, by the way.

Yeh, I've played quite a bit recently, only started a little while ago. My best is about a 45 on a short 9 hole, which is crappy. The main thing is consistancy- some holes I'll do decent shots, others I'll be getting 7's and 8's. Meh, 'tis still fun :thumb:

best 9 hole score was a 45, i picked up golf during the summer (its very enjoyable)
im a nasty *** chipper, everything else im pretty much terrible at

Best round is a 110 :D. I'm a terrible golfer, but I love it. I'm slowly improving though... I used to average 140-150.
edit: gear...
I have a set of Northeast clubs, from my grandfather. Pretty low-end, but I'm not serious about golf. I have a Taylormade driver, can't remember the exact name.
I use any sort of ball, whichever has the fanciest package ;). Nike, Wilson, Maxfli, Top-flite etc.
I don't have golf shoes though, I never bothered.

Hah Jim you're full of surprises.
I used to play. I was off 8 when I was about 14 or 15. Music became my focus after though. Had a few even par rounds nothing too special.
I've been meaning to get out and play a game the last few years...
I have PGF forged Tour Irons, Ping 2 Iron, Fisher Touch Putter, Ben Hogan wedges, Titliest Vokey Lob wedge, some lame 3 wood and no driver for some reason.
My tip is too always make sure your body is aligned properly. Most swing problems arise from poor alignment. When practising have someone stand beside you and make sure your body is aimed at the target.

So where does everyone play? Post a url to your course. I play at a couple of places.
http://www.ballatergolfclub.co.uk/ - Short course, lovely scenery.
http://www.newmachargolfclub.co.uk/ - Held British Seniors Open - Hawkshill is best of the 2, bloody expensive though so only play when I get a freebie on a corporate membership.
http://www.scottishgolfcourses.com/northeast/hazleheadno1.html - Municipal woodland course but good all the same. Designed by the guy who did Augusta!
http://www.scottishgolfcourses.com/northeast/kingslinks.html Another municapl course but this ones a links course and is a brute when the wind is against.

I enjoy golf a lot. Haven't played in a while though. My best on 9 holes was a 49 and on 18 was 107. I was on the middle school team a couple years ago, but haven't played much since. I've been meaning to try and play more though.

Haha, my clubs are pretty nice (or so I've been told), but living downtown I never could get a chance to play. Back home all we had was a driving range and a pitch and putt, so I've never ever gone out on a course. I might do it sometime over the summer, because I really should try out those clubs.
My clubs are Pings and Links with an oversized big bertha driver. Somebody left them when they moved out of an Apartment at a complex I was working at and because I was the only left-hander around, they defaulted to me.

Sherillville, man your not far away at all! Probabaly the closest person on here.
Gotta love golf. I usually hit in the upper 80's, lower 90's and have been playing for about a year and a half now. I've got a set of Callaway Hawkeyes and they are absolutely amazing when playing with Pro V-1's. Here are some pictures my friend took a couple weeks ago of us playing at Blackhorse, down in Monterey, Ca.. It's a professional course and is absolutely gorgeous. The Japanese guy is one of my friends who used to play on the PGA tour a few years ago, and I am the one with the light blue shirt. It was an overcast day though, and it had been raining like 2 weeks straight so it was a little torn up, but still awesome.

Where is that in relation to Howe? I tried looking it up on Yahoo maps but it said the city couldn't be found. I actually live in Kalamazoo, MI but when I go golfing I usually go with my father-in-law who lives in Sturgis. So that course is only about about 15 minutes away from his house.

Man the Gibson factory closed here years ago! But the Heritage factory is still here. Started by a couple ex-Gibson workers. I've been in there. It's kind of weird...there aren't a lot of people that work there and they share their building with another company. They're in the basement and you have to ring a doorbell to get in.

Predictions
Mr Slash
04-07-2005, 08:16 AM
I'm about to embark on the PGA training course so i can turn proffessional. My handicaps four but i'm not playin too great at the moment, bit rusty from being at university for a few years and playing too much guitar!
I play at a small golf club in Manchester, England, but i'm moving to the Celtic Manor resort in wales to do my training.
My advice would be to stay in the present when you have a good score going. i.e, don't get ahead of yourself thinking about the holes coming up, just concentrate on the shot your about to hit.
The Masters? I'm gonna say Tiger, I think he'll either win by a big margin or not contend, he seems to be blowing hot and cold at the moment. This could be the best Masters for years with all the quality thats about at the moment.
davser
04-07-2005, 08:18 AM
Best of luck! You looking to go on tour or club pro?
Mr Slash
04-07-2005, 08:36 AM
:thumb: Thanks mate, I just want to teach really, like at a resort or an academy. I had to be honest with myself and realise I'm not good enough, or dedicated enough, to try and play on the highest level, the standard is so high at the moment its unbelievable. So many brilliant players are struggling to put dinner on the table, its expensive travelling around too.
I don't really fancy running a pro shop, used to do that as an assistant pro its not really my thing, but teaching is really cool, doing summer schools for kids and stuff like that. and I could play in local competitions too if I kept my own golf in shape.
Getting excited about the masters now!
davser
04-07-2005, 08:42 AM
yeah can't wait! Love the masters, it has that special something. Plus, the guy that designed it designed a course I play on a fair bit (Hazlehead 1) in Aberdeen.
What kinda handicap do you need to be an instructor? Do you need to be scratch or is it a case of knowing correct teaching methods as prescribed by PGA? Never going to be that standard myself but interesting to know.
Mr Slash
04-07-2005, 08:49 AM
You have to be a four handicap or below, I think i'm a better teacher than I am golfer, I can spot problems with other peoples technique but not my own!!
The training is three years but I did a degree in golf and leisure at uni which is affiliated to the PGA, which means I only have to do it for 18 months, as long as I pass the exams first time ect.
Allistar Makenzie designed my course too! (Hazel Grove) its been slightly changed since though.
The Masters wouldn't be the Masters without Peter Alliss commentating!

04-07-2005, 09:00 AM

I got a new driver last weekend. TaylorMade R580XD. I'm loving it. I was hitting 300 yards with it at the driving range. I went out and played my first round of the year the other day. It was fun, but I golfed really poorly. I had a few really good shots spaced out by a whole bunch of really bad shots. I think my final score was 55. But that's only for 9 holes. :(
