Best RPG - bladur's gate 2 : shadows of amn
Best sports / racing - Need For Speed 3
Best 3-rd Person - Max Payne 2
Best game based on movie - LOTR ; Battle for middle earth

Best RTS - C&C: Tiberian Sun (it's my favourite anyway)
Best RPG - Final Fantasy VII
Best sports / racing - Tony Hawks 4 (I prefer it to Underground)
Best 3-rd Person - Star Wars Battlefront (at the moment)
Best game based on movie - I don't buy games based on movies.

These are my favourite from a rather limited number of games I've actually played...

Best FPS - Red Faction II only coz it's a blast to play multiplayer on the Sony 2.... (not into FPSs much - I enjoyed playing the Soldier of Fortune demo)

Best RTS - Command and Conquer (Red Alert is cool too)

Best RPG - Final Fantasy VII

Best sports / racing - International Test Cricket; or International Cricket Captain; or FIFA 2000 is the one I've played the most - Sports are my preferred genre.

Best 3-rd Person - Metal Gear Solid

Best game based on movie - Haven't played many good ones.
