Final Fantasy VII is the greatest game ever, in my opinion, surprisingly tied with OOT for that title. I could just sense FF7 being up there when I read the thread title.

No other game comes close to the great storyline in FF7, great characters, immense replayability, immersiveness, and of course the ultimate baddy Sephiroth. It's a game that really requires you to think about what's going on. It kept me on my toes and totally intrigued by the storyline.

Exactly. It's an FPS. There were only two "revolutionary" FPS games, Doom 1 and Quake 1. That's it. All the others are clones.

Halo is overhyped crap. Just like Fable was in the RPG genre. Only difference is, Microsoft is a big dog, and it's much easier to pick on Moleynux, the dog with the gimp leg.

Really now, Final Fantasy should be pwning Halo. This is silly.

That's because there's a surprising amount of 12 year olds. They voted to be "cool" and because they thought the game was "cool", totally ignoring the fact that they played it for a week and then moved on. That pretty much defines the view on Halo. They say they like it to be "cool".

FF7 not only redefined RPGs, it redefined gaming.

Yeah, they're both really good. In fact I would say VII is my favorite ps1 game and Ocarina of Time is my favorite N64 game. Both games were extremely well made and a lot of people have emotional connections (dorks) to them. I can see why too, the characters and storylines in both games are pretty memorable.

It's going to be hard to choose if VII wins this. I have good memories of both games.

Voted FF7. Halo isn't an overrated in my opinion. While very few FPS's can have anything really "revolutionary", there were many things that made Halo an excellent game. From the fantastic graphics, sound, great playability and weapon selection, a good challenge on the toughest difficulty level, and the best co-op game play of any FPS made prior. If it didn't have such a good multiplayer aspect it wouldn't have been loved as much as it is.

And like Gilmour said, FF7 is not a sequel.

I don't think Halo was really revolutionary(ish). Shooting aliens has been done before. I'm pretty sure that almost everything one does in that game has been done before. It was just really fun.

I don't think FF7 was much more revolutionary (was it the first game with more than one disc?), but it had a great story and so much to do.

It's really not that hard to believe. Halo is a fun game. But almost everyone that has played all the way through VII just simply love the game. Ha, I know people that say VII is over-rated (and this is coming from Halo fans) but have never played through the game. It really did change gaming.

I'm not saying it's a game for everyone and that everyone will think it better than halo, but it's a classic. The only thing I think square could have done better on was the in game look of the characters and a less rushed ending. But they had to meet a deadline.

For some strange reason if there was Halo7 I don't think I'd see you complaining about sequels despite what you say. Why shouldn't the franchise keep going if they keep releasing games that are well worth purchasing and playing everytime?

Yes finally, a Halo fan said it, thank you. As far as the rest of your post I have to disagree somewhat.

Given, the graphics are good but still, even at the time I didn't think they were the best graphics I've ever seen and to me, graphics don't make a good game (funny how most Halo fans first reason for halo being so great is the graphics, like...you). As for playability, it plays much like well...every other FPS shooter I've ever played, there wasen't anything really special there (I really hated the controls on the vehicles ESPECIALLY that warthog thing, c'mon you have to give me that!). Weapon selection, again, I didn't think it was anything special, basic human guns with laser alien guns thrown in (alot like, OH, other FPS's!). Tough challenge on highest difficulty...um, sorry, but any game on the highest difficulty should give you a hard time (and I know this isn't always true). Co-op well, I don't like co-op in any FPS shooter so, I'm not gonna blast Halo for that. All in all, FF7 delievered so much more to the player and the gaming industry which is why it gets my vote.

have you even played final fantasy VII through? It's absolutely incredible I think. It was the only one that really got the thin line that is the perfect blend of gameplay and storyline. Not to mention that both the storyline and the gameplay are both incredible as well.

It's revolutionary in that no mainstream FPS was as non-linear as Halo. Until Halo you had to continue from point A to point B in order to get to point C. The story was shallow, but the concept of limited weapons and the replayability, which I had with no other FPS, is what makes it revolutionary.
