Ladytron or The Popo
misunderstood
02-13-2007, 02:35 PM
I think the first half of the tour is being opened by Popo and the other half by Ladytron. Honestly, I have no idea who either one is..never heard of them.
That's so weird. To me it was always obvious that Left was the first disc.
Yeah, same here. But I don't think there's really a 'proper' way to listen to that album. Doesn't really matter which disc you start with...or does it? o.O

They're polish-lesbian-techno-rock. It's complete rubbish.

This whole new NIN album is turning out to be one big encoded mess! :p
Not sure if any of you visit www.theninhotline.net or not but they've been constantly updating on all new things surfacing. The new tour shirts (there's a picture of one at that site) have certain letters that are highlighted and when put together spell out 'I am trying to believe'. I was trying to get onto the ETS boards but server is too busy...they've got a huge thread over there about all of this and people trying to 'decode' whatever they find.
Heh, just thought this was a bit weird. Not very NIN-like. This more like something Tool or Blair from Toolband would do..encode everything! :p
I used to check the nin hotline and go to the forums, but they're so exhausting. Everyone overanalyzing **** and latching on to every single minutia of anything NIN related. It's like, get a life.

02-14-2007, 12:22 AM
^I know. That's how Toolnavy is or was...probably even worse. That site I did stop going to eventually. Finally was able to log onto to ETS but wasn't there for very long. It's all to complicated and I really don't want to even attempt to understand what's going on over there. But anyway, found this:
Nine Inch Nails has revealed the tracklist for Year Zero on the Web site yearzero.nin.com, and it looks like the new CD will have 16 tracks. The album is due in stores on April 17, and the first single, “Survivalism," will arrive at radio on February 27 with an add date of March 6. Reportedly Year Zero will be the first of two concept albums, and the second one will be released probably in 2008.
So not only do we get the live dvd on the 27th but we also get a single! Woot! And a double concept album from NIN? o.O
I dont even know what to think of this. And the concept is all very strange too, heh.

Ugh, one of the songs from the new album leaked earlier today. I couldn't help it so yes, I have listened to it already. I don't think I actually really tried to hold myself back this time though. Oh well. I won't post the link here just in case everyone is strong enough to hold off until April but if anyone is interested in giving it a listen, let me know and I'll e-mail it to you. I won't talk much about it but I will say that this album seems promising. The song is very different from anything on WT...kinda reminded me of something off TDS.

Ok, I'm beginning to think that this 'leak' was deliberately put out. I mean, they found the song in some USB drive in a bathroom stall at one of the recent NIN shows. And now, there are some weird graphics next to that particular song on the tracklisting on NIN.com..marking that it's been 'leaked', maybe? Ah,whatever.
On another note, 'The Becoming' and 'Heresy' were played at last nights show! The Becoming! Probably one of my favorite NIN songs..lucky bastards! :p

There's another clip of some other song going around on the ETS boards. That clip is not clear at all though. It's kinda strange the way they found it actually. Some of the new tour shirts that are being sold have some highlighted numbers you have to put together which will actually give you a CA phone number. People have been calling it and getting some weird statical stuff followed by a new clip. This is all getting kinda funny/weird. Reznor blogging over at the Spiral boards:
"What you are now starting to experience IS 'year zero'. It's not some kind of gimmick to get you to buy a record - it IS the art form... and we're just getting started. Hope you enjoy the ride."
Seems like this is just the beginning. Alot more complicated/interesting stuff coming our way. Oh, by the way, another song is out, Survivalism, the new single that was suppose to be out on the 27th of this month. Looks like a bunch of radio stations are playing not. I haven't listened to it yet..haven't even bothered looking for a link. I'm not sure I will. I know I listened to the first song that was out but I don't want to end up ruining the entire NIN experience.:p
Hmm..then again, it is gonna be the single and I probably won't be able to avoid it while listening to the radio. So it wouldn't matter if I listened to now or later...unless I don't turn the radio on for the next two months then maybe i can pull it off. Ah, whatever, not listening to it for now..later, perhaps.
I generally listen to singles if they're released.

What do you mean by "stray"?
If you mean what I think you mean, then I agree. I like the song quite a bit, as I still feel Trent is much better at writing electronic music rather than the straightforward rock on With Teeth. However, as with The Fragile and The Downward Spiral, I'm used to his electronic music incorporating some very unusual and unpredictable structures. On the two albums I just mentioned Trent would start with a catchy base and then add layer upon layer, taking some very unexpected turns and creating something incredibly intricate, in its own chaotic way.
Still, I'm impressed with the new stuff. It brings me back to the TF and TDS era. My Violent Heart really sounds like it could've been on TDS.

Just saw this over at the ETS boards and thought was a bit interesting. This happened at tonight's show...Someone talking about the new album:
"Spiral members went in expecting a sound check and instead got pizza (in your face ninjaw) and Trent turning up saying “soundchecks are boring- listen to this” and they got to listen to the whole new album ‘Year Zero’.
Agree that’s its like the soundtrack to a movie you have never seen.
Described it as being like prince, devo, royksop with a large dollop of noise.
Equally catchy and dense.
Has all the old nin elements we would recognise but is brand new too.
The same people who thought that Hurt was written by Johnny Cash are going to think that this album is a bad marilyn manson covers album when in reality it concludes the argument over who is the better artist".

^ For some reason I just can't seem to really get into 'Me, I'm Not'. I do like all the other songs that have been released though.
Anyway, I just finished watching 'Beside You In Time' and all I have to say is wow! That is an awesome live DVD. The sound was great, the visuals were great, camera angles were great. I'm very satisfied to say the least. My only real complaint is that I thought the entire show was filmed from a distance more than anything. One thing I really liked about AATCHB was that the cameras seemed to have caught alot of closeups of the band during performance..not the case this time around.
Oh, and I have to admit that the packaging of the dvd was a bit disappointing too. I thought the booklet (if you can call it that) would at least contain a track list, the band, a picture...something, anything. Not a big deal though. Seems like the entire 'With Teeth' era was like this. Plain, simple and straight to the point.
Also, no easter eggs! Hehe. I was kinda hoping that maybe the scrapped EDIETS video would show up. Or it would have been awesome had they added the sessions they had with Peter Murphy last year. It was all good though. The rehearsal footage was nice as well. 'Eraser', 'Right Where It Belongs' and 'Beside You In Time' were fantastic! Probably one of my favorite parts of the show...though nothing compares to hearing those three songs live!
Very happy with this DVD nonetheless.

Yes, it does! That one and Mr. Self-Destruct.
Another song was leaked earlier today, The Beginning of the End (i know, i know).
I think this one sounds alot more mainstream than any of the other ones that have been released so far. I think this is the kind of song, like THTF, that will sound even better live! I like this one even though it's kinda short. After listening to this a few times, I get the feeling that 'Hyperpower!' is gonna end up being some sort of intro like 'Pinion' and 'The Frail'.
Wow, I lucked out. I was at work and this channel called 101 or something played the new DVD in its entirety! It was pretty good, nothing magnificent. Also, I thought You Know What You Are sucked, because in the chorus I couldn't even hear the piano at all. That's pretty much the best part of the song. Also, Beside You In Time sucked. And they used so many damn backing tracks.

No, I do too. Actually, whenever I listen to Broken, I rarely go beyond the 6th track..so most of the time I don't listen to the two 'hidden' tracks. Same thing with Tool's 'Undertow' album.

Here's my poorly written review of Year Zero:
After 2005’s With_Teeth most fans and critics alike were prepared for the seemingly inevitable five-year gap between releases. Sobriety – it seems – equals productivity, and so to the surprise of those same fans and critics Trent Reznor returns a mere two years after we last saw him, swapping his at times clichéd self-loathing for a concept album about a dystopian near-future where the US emerges as a pre-eminent power and initiates a surveillance society.
There’s no doubt about it, with Year Zero, NIN stand to alienate some of their newest fans. Year Zero is not far removed from been the antithesis of its predecessor; whereas WT was somewhat capacious, melodic and commercially geared, Year Zero is abrasive, noisy and possibly the most layered NIN album since The Downward Spiral.
The album begins with Hyperpower!, an introductory piece of barely over a minute which plays host to a buzzing electronic rhythm over a monotonous and ever approaching beat. In some ways the first two tracks on Year Zero lead the listener into a false sense of security, The Beginning of the End and Survivalism been perhaps the two most radio-friendly NIN cuts since WT’s lead single The Hand That Feeds. The Good Soldier – though a standout track with its lyrical departure for Reznor sure to be a talking point – is not as representative of the much lauded ‘noisy’ nature of the album as Vessel, a song that appears to recount some form of use with the drug Opal, an integral part of the Year Zero concept. Over the chours Reznor asks ‘oh my god, can it go any faster?’. The most memorable part of the track though is the nearly two minute wall of sound that derails the track before Me I’m Not starts up – a track not dissimilar to any number of Massive Attack compositions.
Next is Capital G, which really should have been the lead single and probably will be the next one, owing to the insanely dancey beat that meanders its way through the scathingly sarcastic verses. The potential downfall to the track is that after two minutes it doesn’t really go anywhere lyrically though much to this author’s pleasure the driving but simplistic beat continues under layers of guitar until it finds itself back at the chorus with Reznor bemoaning how he ‘traded in my god for this one / and he signs his name with a capital G’.
The following three tracks –My Violent Heart, The Warning and God Given – probably represent the best section of the album. My personal favourite was The Warning with is repeated mantra-like outro of ‘your time is tick-tick-ticking away’ though the downright heavy God Given came close to usurping it from that position.
The penultimate three tracks are all somewhat below the standard of their precursors, Meet Your Master is a tad dull and seems to have said all it need to after two minutes though feels the need to stay longer, The Greater Good though an interesting almost instrumental track though it too feels a little overwrought though the same can not be said for The Great Destroyer that evaporates mid-chorus into a noise collage that will be all the more punishing for those listening with headphones.
As for the final three songs, Another Version of the Truth is a piano permeated, In This Twilight feels like a climax and also a realisation whereas Zero-Sum, clocking in at over six minutes, probably needs headphones to be fully appreciated with it’s Ruiner-esque vocals almost below the music.
The good news is that Year Zero is probably Reznor’s best work since 1994’s The Downward Spiral, not as intricate as The Fragile it is easier to jump into though it remains lengthy (63 minutes) by current standards. The even better news is that Reznor intends to deliver the second part of the Year Zero story as an album perhaps as early as next year. Year Zero shows that after the almost tired and lyrically inept With Teeth there is much too look forward to as far as Nine Inch Nails is concerned.

Survivalisms video is pretty political it seems. Only seen it once but thats what I felt. The song itself seems distant with the vocals side and the instruments were fairly basic to me. I think it will work well on CD, not so much on its own.

I'm not posting here as it may ruin it for people but for those who wouldn't mind seeing them lyrics for almost every song (though Meet Your Master is slightly incorrect) are at www.oldielyrics.com with a link on the mainpage. Best NIN lyrics yet in my opinion; devoid of cliched self-loathing. What can be a little wearing is that almost every song follows the same rhyme scheme, eg.
---non-rhyming
---home
---non-rhyming
---alone
(i don't think those lyrics actually appear but it gives some idea)
Whether this is a bad thing or not I'm not sure, no one seems to have mentioned it, but the bridges leading into the choruses for both God Given and U2's Elevation are virtually the same.

Nine Inch Nails and Tool co-headlining a bunch of festivals everywhere but in the US!
Dammit, what I'd give to be at any one of them. My two favorite bands on one bill...that's alot of ego there. :p
Ugh, and maybe at some point Reznor will join Tool or MJK will join NIN for a special appearance or whatever. Hehe, that'd be weird. I can't imagine MJK singing any NIN song..and much less Trent singing a Tool track.
Oh well.

^Exactly! :p
Anyway, for anyone who's interested, I just heard a new Queens of the Stone Age song that features Trent. For whatever reason this particular song didn't make it on the new Queens album, but here it is anyway. I thought it was a decent song. Not too bad.

Crazy track, cool tempo changes.
You can go discuss Queen's and download that song in various versions in the thread I made a couple of days ago: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=521112

I got high and listened to The Fragile last night.
It was one of the greatest experiences ever.

Ha, that sounds trippy.
I'm gonna do that again tonight though, with the NIN thing.
I was in awe the whole time, and the album is so much better to me now.
