Some dude on manson USA did a remix of THTF, a dance one, i don't think it's appropriate to post but it was darn cool. How is reznor giving people the parts? All the original bit's before they were mixed?

Courtesy of sharkey from MMusa, it may have somehting to do with idolside (whatever that is) too http://www.idoliside.org.uk/ i think  Anways i yoinked the link for you download from the top link :) The snare is slightly crazy, but i liked it...and his backing vocals are cool. I've heard him do coma white by manson with just a piano, was good.

"With Teeth" is awesome. The only song I don't really like on it is the title track because the chorus is like "Withah Teeth-ah"..it annoys me. But that's about it. "Everything is Exactly the Same" starts off like a Radiohead song imo.
Anywhos. I'll be buying this.

Shi t.I really hope With Teeth is better than this.I wasn't very impressed by any of those other 3 songs.Hand That Feeds is the best song out of those, and the non-single NIN songs usually always outshine the singles. These wouldn't make me buy the album but since my love for NIN is very strong I will still be buying it.Also the teaser on the website sounds cool.
Only was really Down In It-like.It DID sound pretty PHM-era.Not very outstanding.
Every Day Is Exactly The Same was better, but it repeats quite alot.I felt like I've already heard a song a bit like this, say like Where is Everybody. But it's still not what I was expecting.
Right Where It Belongs sounds mean as at the start but it doesn't really pick up.I really thought it would be a great build up,kind of like The Way Out Is Through.Like it gets loud in the middle but doesn't explode into a NIN fury.I guess it's the token quiet song on the album.
The Hand That Feeds is awesome, somehow it reminds me of Little Sister by QOTSA though. It's very pop-ish but still incorporates a NIN-ish feel to it.That's what Reznor does best I guess.I'll still be buying With Teeth, but I had much greater expectations for the first NIN album in nearly 6 years.

hey guys, just to let u know i got the cd today... religion teacher gave it to me...
it is utterly amaizing
i think i can tell the difference between what trent made for the drums, and dave grohls drumming... theres a couple really fast upbeat songs on the cd, and its obvious grohl went to work on those
i have to say.. amaizing, utterly amaizing cd, buy it, it is a must
first cd that has exceeded my expectations in a loooong time, but i was dissapointed there was no shocker songs... guess trent calmed down on that acpect (stuff like starf*ckers inc. and closer) but besides that, i'm still going to buy this cd, and burn it so i have it in every cd player in my house, and in my car :)

Allright, I finally heard With Teeth. I didn't want to listen to it illegitimately, but they posted it on their myspace so it was legit.
I'm not sure what to think of it yet. It's probably my least favorite NIN lp, but I still like it a great deal. It strikes me as an album that's not either great or horrible, but it has ups and downs. The title track and Every Day Is Exactly the Same are examples of downs, but songs like You Know What You Are and Love is Not Enough are awesome. Maybe the other songs will grow on me, but after one listen, that's what I think.

Other than that the rest of the album was pretty amazing.....it does have alot of PHM in it, i also heard alot of The Fragile with the multitude of strait piano on the album....

If the intervals are the same, the riff is the same. It's like saying playing baa baa black sheep in C a different tune to playing it in G. Yes the tone is different due to the key change, but it's still the same thing. THTF is a 3rd above FS with about 2 strums cut out...

I listened to With Teeth in it's entirety today. And I have to say...i'm not impressed.Just nothing...really stood out. It's definitely more pop-orientated.But if I do compare it to Pretty Hate Machine,I'd say PHM owns it by a mile.Seriously, some one tell me that this rules over The Downwards Spiral and The Fragile.Even Broken wns it.Something just seems missing you know? The Hand That Feeds is pretty good,but..ahh.With Teeth just isn't up to the usual NIN standards.Has Reznor gone stale with sobriety? What is he thinking?!? 'With-ahhh...Teeth-ahhhh..'.That would be a good song if not for that...that thing!I feared this might happen. It's not all that bad,but I was just expecting so much more you know.It could grow on me, but im really sad and dissapointed.

i concur. the new record is really great.
its funny because people say "but it's not downward spiral" and trent says in countless interviews that alot of his alchoholism and such resulted from having to live up to himself with TDS, hence the drugged up Fragility tour. Now hes doing what he feels like, it seems. And another potential record within the next year and a half. possibly.

IEven Broken wns it.Something just seems missing you know? The Hand That Feeds is pretty good,but..ahh.
the fact that you said "The Hand that feeds" is pretty good shows what you know. That's probably the worst track on the album, and is ironically the single the media embraces. It's not as good as Pretty Hate Machine, but this album is still amazing. While the downward spiral was more memorable, this album has no filler, which the downward spiral had. It's very constant, and "you know what you are" is one of the most aggressive tracks they've ever recorded. If anything else, it's better than Broken, and it's better than pretty much anything else released this year, which is why I'm buying it.
AIC/EAZY-E

Ok tacos, you're a tr00 fan.
Just because it's a single doesn't mean it's the worst track on the album.
It definitely is one of the stand outs. I'm not going to despise it just because apparently the media embraces it though. It's an awesome song.Maybe this does strike some people as an amazing record, but I just don't think it lived up to the hype.
I enjoy every single NIN release so much more than this one; I can't just keep telling myself I like it for the fact that it's them.It could be a CD that grows on me. But still those kinds of records strike you on the first listen, and you realise more by listening to it again and again, influenced by that first spin in the cd player. All The Love In The World I have to listen to again, the same with Getting Smaller.I forgot to mention The Line Begins To Blur and Every Day is Exactly the Same, which I heard about a month ago,are also outstanding on the album.
There ARE great ideas on this album, but I just think Trent could've utilised his time so much more. And I can't get over his use of the chorus With-ah Teeth-ah. Lyrical dynamics, could be.Writers block definitely.Get the album. I have to listen to it one or two more times, my mind might change....or maybe i'm just ranting because one of my favourite bands has kind of dissapointed me. :upset:

ok ok so i bought my copy of with teeth yesterday (god i got a surprise when i went in there and it was on the shelves before the third) I hadnt downloaded any of the album and i turned off the radio when THTF came on because i didnt want to hear any of it before i bought it. At first listen i didnt really think that much of it, its ALOT less layered in my opinion to the previous albums and much simpler (gonna get flamed for that comment) but its really growing on me now. its quite a difficult album and there is nothing really that accessible on it except for THTF. Its much more rock orientated than the fragile but at the same time its gentler than TDS (as for reznor saying the album would be 11ish short sharp punches in the face it is simply unture)
At the moment i am loving right where it belongs (great great song) sunspots, every day is exactly the same and all the love in the world and im disliking the collector and only. Reznors vocals seem to be pretty good but i wish he would get over the 'cat in a hat' rhyming lyrics its much worse here than they have ever been on any of his previous albums.
The art work was a bit of a let down too, from what trent was saying on the website i was expecting something elaborate (like the Fantomas new cd  ) but its pretty standard... well youll see what i mean

I said both of those tracks did stand out. I just don't think it's up to NIN standards,I mean i'm forcing myself to like it. That's never the case with them usually. As I said it could grow on me. But it definitely didn't blow me away straight off and I just usually expect that from Reznor.I had too high expectations. It's much more mellow than usual, yet no 'Something I Can Never Have','Hurt' or 'And All That Could've Been' type songs which are some of Trent's best.Maybe he just wanted change, I can deal with that. Sorry for ranting, this is just nearly as bad as Tool having a bad release or something. Because with the two bands, none have had previous albums that have failed to impress me. OK I've just listened to With Teeth once more on myspace.com,in it's entirety, and while not being a majorly mind-blowing and constantly impressive release, it definitely has a few memorable moments I have realised.
I still find 'The Hand That Feeds' to be the most enjoyable out of these rather 'newly styled' songs. Not because it's "the single that the media embraces" or what ever. There is a significant change in this batch of tracks, most notably the drumming, as it is no longer more drum machined and techno-ish (using the term lightly), but Dave Grohl. And I don't think I am used to this. I have come to love NIN for this type of style, and even though it still has this same kind of drumming in some selected songs, I would think a song like 'Getting Smaller' would be better with out the more rock-feel drums. It has the potential to be something like a modern-day 'Wish', but I don't know. Pretty stupid pointing out something like that and I probably haven't explained it thoroughly enough to back it up, but I still think something just isn't completely there..most people will be buying the album tomorrow, so here is my review.
Yellow - Best Track
Red - Stand Out
Dark Red - Normal
Blue - Nothing Great
All The Love In The World is a great quiet track to start off the album, and the melody is definitely a memorable one. It is one of the highlights of the album and a great opener.
You Know What You Are has a drumming intro from Dave and Trent is the most relentless on the album, yet I feel somehow I've heard it all before. Still, on this album, it is another great song. I kind of feel the agressiveness is lacking, maybe Trent didn't want to do that with this album, and even when he does go hard it's not up to say, 'Happiness in Slavery' or 'Star****ers Inc' standards of angry. Still, its a good track.
The Collector is nothing too great and didn't really stand out in my opinion. Has quite a good chorus but I don't dig his voice or the lyrics on the track. Only IMO though.
The Hand That Feeds This is actually a really enjoyable, fun track. I don't give a **** if this is the single, I don't like it just because of that. It's catchy, got a great hook, the solo thing is awesome and even though it might not represent this album that great, it's definitely one of the best tracks on the album and shouldn't be despised just because it's a single. I hate idiots that even think that.
Love Is Not Enough Not quite a standout, but still a thoroughly good track.Nothing wrong with it, but nothing overly great about it either.
Every Day Is Exactly The Same is probably the best track on the album. Reminds me of Fragile-era NIN, and sums the new album up pretty nicely. The chorus is really simple but great at the same time. A good quiet track which can probably be best compared to the song 'Where Is Everybody?' yet a bit mellower. It's a very good track, but if put on 'The Fragile' wouldn't be much compared to others.
With Teeth is of course, the title track. The instrumentals are very good, and everything besides that..chorus is fine. The quiet bridge then BAM straight into full blast guitars is very vintage NIN. Still don't like that chorus-aahhh though.
Only is very 80's, it sounds even sarcastic in some senses. The words being rambled a la Down In It work alright, but I can't see throught the cheesey instrumentals. One to miss, even if it might be done like this on purpous. Peoples tastes vary though.
Getting Smaller Another agressive track, yet this sounds like its Trent featuring in another band. The instruments just sound totally foreign, but yet again if you're not a little bitch who can't get over something dumb like this..ahem..then there is nothing wrong with this song. It's good, and will grow on me.
Sunspots I love this song now. Just something menacing about it, yet hauntily beautiful. The chorus is enjoyable too. Don't skip it, it's very different to anything NIN has done, but that's a good thing.
The Line Begins To Blur Definitely reminds me of NIN of old. Downloaded this song along with 'The Hand That Feeds'. Reminds me of the song 'The Big Come Down' or something along the lines of that. It rivals EDIETS as the best song on the album.
Beside You In Time This goes on..and on..and on..No, actually it's a really beautiful track and the end bit's a really great NIN moment and makes the transition to the last track nicely.
Right Where It Belongs A great closing track, very quiet. I was really hoping for a big build up or at least some kind of increase in instruments, but mostly stays exactly the same level.Great lyrics and the piano melody is nice. You actually think it's going to explode into something extaordinary, but instead some samples of crowds cheering is played behind the piano melody and Reznor singing. A very quiet way to finish an unexpected album of neither overly great or really bad songs, just a consistent outing of strong ones that could've had a few touch ups or minor changes.
This is really a change for the band, Trent is sober and feeling great now. His voice changed a bit on this album, as is the case usually once you are clean. I really hope NIN comes to New Zealand, as I am still a bigger fan as I ever was, now they have a stronger body of material and I am already eagerly awaiting their arrival. I expect most casual fans to praise the album, and the hard out NIN fans to either despise it or completely fall in love with it. I fall somewhere in the middle, as I have grown to appreciate what it is and feel it is a great 13 songs, yet this is probably the weakest release from them. It doesn't mean it is that bad. I will simply wait till the price lowers as NZ prices them $34.95. . Not as influential as Pretty Hate Machine, not as aggressive and memorable as Downwards Spiral, not as ingenius as both discs of The Fragile, but still a strong release. With Teeth. It's been 6 years. Buy It.

I'm all caught up in the excitement of hearing a new NIN album in its entirety tomorrow and I was doing some googling and I came across this site, I dunno if it's been talked about here yet but I couldn't find any threads about it.
http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~dph342/thtf/001-100.html
It's page with like 300+ remixes of the Hand That Feeds...this is definetely gonna fill some time out of the day tonight, it's interesting to see how many twists people can add to the song, even though a lot of it is just people mixing up the song and not really editting the actualy sounds of it, some people have been really creative with it.
It'd be cool if there were remixes of other songs too but I still think this is a fun site.

After a coupla days with it i still prefer the softer songs on the album to the rock orientated ones. I think that the collector is probably the weakest song on the album, it does little for me and reminds me alot of big man with a big gun. Right Where It Belongs my favourite thus far its so simple yet amazingly powerful when the cheers of the crowd come in.
Yep i cant get over the with teeth chorus it sounds very nasty and i totally agree with your view on THTF its a very catchy rocking song.
Oh yeah RWIB isnt the last song on the album there is a song called Home which comes after it, I rate it pretty highly, slow going, big drum beat and trents tourtured lyrics with some nice keyboards coming in at the chorus

Just got back from the "With Teeth" release party. I finally have the album in my hands...after so long. I'm listening to it right now as I type. The release party was pretty good. We got some free TDS posters as well as "With Teeth" posters. We also got some stickers and some other stuff. Anyway, they showed us a collection of NIN videos including one from Reznor's very first band doing a cover of Billy Idol's "Eyes Without a Face". Heh. That was interesting. They also screened the whole story behind the video for "Down In It" where the FBI thought it was an actual murder case. It's a rather longs story so if anyone is interested check it out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Down_in_It
Anyway, still listening to the album and so far so good.

I just got through listening to it. This CD is ****ing amazing in my opinion. It's really dark, and I love the simple packaging...the picture of Trent owns. I love the robotic/machine feel that comes into play in many of the songs.
The frequent visit of piano in some form of many of the songs is great. The Collector is a decent song until that piano line comes in near the end. Just makes it so much cooler.
I find the CD to be very dark and the blue/black/grey color of the packaging fits the music very well. I love the grinding sound on songs like Love is Not Enough.
Favorites:
Love Is Not Enough
Every Day Is Exactly The Same
With Teeth
The Line Begins To Blur
Beside You In Time --- absoultely orgasmic.
Only is really weird, but still cool in its own way.
I also don't see where people draw the comparison between this and Pretty Hate Machine. They don't sound much alike in my opinion, aside from a few parts on some tracks. This album really stands alone...it's different than all the other NIN albums. I still think Trent has it in him. THis is a lot different, but hell, he didn't set out to remake TDS, which seems to be what some people want for some reason.
The end is cool, because it's a meloncholy song but it's also a little uplifting as the cheering crowd comes in. Good ending to the CD, in my opinon.
I'm looking forward to listening to the 5.1 mix tommorow.

I love love love love love love love love love love love love love love LOVE this album. And I knew I would.
I'm too big a Reznor fan to turn this down, to me this feels like exactly what NIN should be sounding like these days, it sounds like this album would not even be possible without all the albums before it and this is just an accumulation of all Reznor's done musically in past albums, some aspects of previous albums are definetely seen on this album and every song is unique in their own ways, I love this album, best album so far of 2005 and I really can't see it being topped in my mind.
It surprises me that nobodies mentioning Only as a favorite song. It's definetely my favorite, I just love the energy, the lyrics, everything about this song is just really catchy and I've been listening to it straight for the past hour.

I've been listening to the cd since i got it yesterday. It surprised me a lot, but is still amazing.
It reminded me also a hell of a lot of Pretty Hate Machine when I heard it -but i found that change pretty refreshing. As much as i love the Fragile and Downward Spiral, i'm not sure if he could have kept it as origional by just taking that same route. Moving back into the style with PHM made it sound much more fresh.
Anyone else think Trent's vocals sounded stronger on this album? I'm not sure what it is... but he just sounds far more confident, maybe just better.
I heard Only was the heaviest song on the album... thanks to that, i almost shouted "what the ****?" in the bus-stop when i hit that track. The old lady next to me gave me a wierd look. Oh well... i'd say it was worth the five years waiting.

I think his vocals are better, but then again kind of worse.
I think he's sort of missing that edge he use to have. I mean, he stilll kind of has it. But I feel that the older albums had more emotion, its still there very much, its just not as much I think.
My mind will probably change though.
And his voice is a bit clearer and softer in some parts, and I also like that.

the live instruments really give yo uthe "live experiance" if yo uwill. this album sounds alot like "aatchb..." in the sense that it just sounds live. it is much more agressive from the live drums. i think his voice sounds weaker at some points because he didn;t layer the falsetto vocals. on songs like "all the love in the world" he has just a solo track doing the vocals where in the past (best example because i just heard it) on "heresy" he has a alto voicing along with a falsetto so they sound stronger. i agree with you shredder in the comparisson of phm because it is much more stripped down then past albums. all in all it is a great album.

I see in that sense, it is similar to PHM, as opposed to The Fragile or The Downward Spiral. But it's still a very fresh take. There's a lot of ambience to it, yet it maintains a really hard edge on a lot of the songs. I also find that the bass plays a very important role in the songs.
It's stripped down, but there are still parts that are quite layered as well. And we still see some classic NIN breakdowns, like at around 3:20 in With Teeth as well as the classic NIN build up on Beside You In Time and some other songs. The lyrics are great, in my opinion, and Every Day Is Exactly the same is near perfection in the way the vocals meld with the ambience of the surrounding instrumentals. It's still very emotional and it's still got the NIN edge.

I found something else like that, too, on the downloadable credits. Called "A Letter To No One", or something like that.
Anyway, With Teeth was great. It was a much different approach to NIN, with a mellower, more melancholy, far less cathartic sound than in his previous stuff. Dave Grohl on drums gave the album a much more organic feel, which countered the electro-rock in most of the music.
I still prefer The Downward Spiral and The Fragile, both of which tie as my favorite NIN album. Lyrically, With Teeth was a bit of a letdown, and The Fragile was musically superior to it, but there were some standout songs, including "Right Where It Belongs". And this is all just after the first listen. I'm sure I'll be discovering new things as I listen more.

What is all this about a secret track? I've listened straight through the CD and there's no secret track for me.
I like the new drum style, but then again I don't. It's different, which is what I like about it...but on songs like The Line Begins To Blur and All The Love In The World, there is the classic NIN drum sound that just screams Trent Reznor. I prefer that style of drums for NIN music. I was wrong in that I didn't think Grohl's drumming would make a big difference on the album, because it does (for those that didn't know, on TDS and TF, Trent recorded live drums, looped them, and then ran them through synths to give them the signature Electro-sound). It's good for what it is, but I actually prefer Trent-style drums.
Still loving the album, though. With every listen it gets better and better.

I loved the new album as well and you're right..it gets better and better with every listen. About the whole secret track thing. I've also listened to the album straight through and didn't find anything...it's just those extra lyrics that appear on the With Teeth site. Maybe something new will pop up somewhere on the site later on. Who knows.

I thought a few songs here and there were good on With Teeh, but for the most part it was a different NIN sound to me... kinda disappointed...
^^^Well, yes, the sound is different and that's a good thing. Sure some people won't pick up on it, and others will but that's always the risk good artists run when their music evolves. He didn't set out to make TDS Pt. 2.

There are two bonus tracks on the Japanese Import. Something called "Home", and an all-piano version of "Right Where It Belongs". Of course, the import costs thirty bucks.
But no, no hidden tracks.

I think we've got two bonus tracks in the UK as well, on the subject of hidden tracks. I'll upload later if I'm right, and there's interest.
Yeah, there's definitely some interest here. Heh. I'd like to hear the bonus tracks you guys got. I'd really appreciate it.
I know what you mean...I got it two days ago, and while at times it's really excellent, it seems a bit forced somehow, as if Reznor is trying to channel some of his energy into the album, but it isn't quite working. Maybe I had too high expectations going in, thanks to the gap between albums and the quality of his previous work, but so far it's disappointed me a bit. I don't really understand how it's getting such great reviews in some quarters, based on the first few listens, but there you go....I think we've got two bonus tracks in the UK as well, on the subject of hidden tracks. I'll upload later if I'm right, and there's interest.
Oh, there's interest. There's a lot of interest.
And I don't know if the same case applies for you, but I know that the first time I listened through The Downward Spiral, I just didn't get it and couldn't get into it. After the third or fourth listen, I was absoultely blown away. Some of the songs that were orignally my least favorite on that album are now my favorites, etc. In other words, NIN took time to grow on me. The Fragile was the only NIN album I liked immediately. Although, with TDS, there's a lot to that album as far as its concept and things like that, and there's a lot to discover. I'm not sure if that's necessarily the case with the new album, but I've been listening to it nonstop since I got it, and I'm finding different things every time.

I actually saw Trent Reznor last Saturday. NIN was in town because of Coachella fest and I was in Palm Desert going to a movie and a went to the restroom to expel forth my urine. As I was walking out, some lanky dude with long hair walked in, and I was like, "whoa, he looks familiar for some odd reason". Then I looked back and I said to myself "that's Trent Reznor!". I can say now with a little bit of pride that I saw Trent Reznor take a piss.

I don't wanna comment too much on the album yet. but I've listened to it a good 10 times, and I fugging love it. Ok, it's different from the rest of the albums, but the difference is a good thing. Standout tracks for me are All the Love In the World, Only, Getting Smaller.......screw it, I'm basically just gonna list every track. That's what I think is the most important part of the album; no filler.
Just a note, on the UK version, there's a song called Right Where It Belongs V.2. It's basically just a quiet version of the original, and I think I actually prefer it. Just wondering if anyone else has heard it.

I definitely dig the vocal melodies found on this album. There are some really great "pop-oriented" songs on the album that I would expect to hear in Abercrombie & Fitch (the music at least), but don't think I'm knocking that!!! I like the album; morso than The Downward Spiral (which aside from about 4 songs, I really don't like). However, With Teeth just can't come close to topping The Fragile. I'm not sure any NiN album ever could though, because The Fragile is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. I guess I'd give With Teeth 4 stars out of 5.
NOTE: I've only listened to the album straight through once so far :thumb:

I still think there are some parts that are really bad, but no songs that are bad overrall. Trent keeps referring to some big thing that will happen, or some series of smaller events that will lead up to it. He refers to it as the "master plan" and always talks about how we should stay tuned and look forward to it and see what will happen, etc etc. I have no idea what this is, but I can say that I'm so eager to know what he's on about.

Just thought I would say that thanks to this thread I got into NIN, got TDS first and then Fragile. Must say I prefer TDS but still I like Fragile, not sure what side I prefer yet though. I got PHM tonight and I wasn't too impressed by it on first listening and I got WT aswell, which I am listening to now, seems quite good.
I checked NIN out a while ago but found it too heavy for my liking but recently I have been getting into a more broad spectrum of music, and I found myself liking heavier bands like Tool and I seen them mentioned in this thread so I thought, "I might aswell check them out, it probably can't kill me." I'm loving the 3 songs I've heard from it so far (AATCHB,Leaving Hope, The Persistence Of Loss) but I can't find it on any file sharing programs. I was thinking of making a CD for a friend who wants to get into Nine Inch Nails. More of an opinionative thing...but just say the songs that best sum up their career, including the With Teeth songs. My tracklist so far (it would be a double album, haven't arranged them into an order of my liking yet) is this :
1.Down In It
2.Head Like A Hole
3.Sin
4.Terrible Lie
5.Something I Can Never Have
6.Wish
7.Happiness In Slavery
8.Gave Up
9.Last
10.March Of The Pigs
11.Closer
12.Mr. Self Destruct
13.Heresy
14.Piggy
15.Reptile
16.Eraser
17.Burn
18.The Perfect Drug
19.The Day The World Went Away
20.We're In This Together
21.The Fragile
22.Somewhat Damaged
23.The Wretched
24.Star****ers Inc.
25.Into The Void
26.Where Is Everybody?
27.The Big Comedown
28.Complication
29.And All That Could've Been
30.The Hand That Feeds
31.The Line Begins To Blur
32.All The Love In The World
33.You Know Who You Are?
34.Every Day Is Exactly The Same
35.Sunspots
36.Right Where It Belongs
37.Hurt
Now I notice I'll have to make some more glaring omissions to this tracklist as there is no way this can fit on 2 CD's. What ones do you think I should leave out or what ones do you think should be there that aren't even there?

I like Sunspots, but I think Getting Smaller is the worst song on the album. My reason being is that it's boring, and I find little about it to be very NIN-like at all.
Deep is okay, but there are better non-album songs than it.
EDIT: Woah, for a second there I had mixed up Deep with Dead Souls. Deep is actually an awesome song, I hadn't listened to it in awhile since you mentioned it.
Trent's music is evolving, he's not going to try and make another Downward Spiral. I love With Teeth, but I'm hoping he never plays with Grohl again, or uses straight live drums for that matter. While it works for the most part on With Teeth, another album in that style would be stupid, I think.
And like Trent says, With Teeth is what it is. That doesn't mean he's going to suddenly be writing like With Teeth, but it doesn't mean he's going to "go back" to any of his previous styles either. The next release could be a complete 180; There's no reason to assume that this marks the end of the old and the beginning of some kind of new trend.

I just finished reading an interview with Reznor in the new SPIN magazine and good news: he's got alot of new stuff ready for another album which he hopes to release within a year! I know we had already discussed this earlier in this thread, but I don't think there was any "assurance" as to how long before the next album. Anyway, just thought I'd share this with fellow NIN fans. The interview is pretty interesting. He's also on the cover of Revolver. Both interviews talk pretty much about the same thing.
Anyway, so in both articles (and every other interview he's made) he talks about the last four years of his life, addiction, denial, etc, etc. I was reading one particular part of an interview where he's talking about the 12-step program and how the ninth step suggests you make amends with those you hurt while abusing alcohol...and how although people are grateful you're alive, they're not always forgiving or accepting. The first thing that came to my mind was APC'S "The Noose". Heh. Then I started thinking about "Thirteenth Step" and some of the interviews Maynard had done at the time of the release. I remember he kept mentioning how he had some dear friends that were going through and had already gone through this 12-step program. I don't know if I'm just overanalyzing this here or was Keenan referring to Reznor alot of the time throughout the album? I mean, I'm sure the whole album wasn't about him...but it just kind of makes sense. They've both been friends for a very long time now and by the looks of continue to be (even after the little fall out with Tapeworm). I mean, he was even thanked in the "With Teeth" credits. Anyway, I could be completely off with this but I just thought that was a bit interesting.
I think it's awesome that the new material is already starting to come around, but I'm still not assured that it will be within a year. He talks a big one now, but we'll see :p
And I never even thought about what you said about 13th Step, but it seems that it is very possible. That's a cool observation.

Maynard isn't a stupid lyricist, the '13th Step' observation is more than likely correct.
Who said he was a stupid lyricist

I like Sunspots, but I think Getting Smaller is the worst song on the album. My reason being is that it's boring, and I find little about it to be very NIN-like at all.
I didn't mean Sunspots, I got confused. Sunspots is cool. I meant The Collector, that's just boring.

Yeah, I was surprised because I think Sunspots is a really good song. I didn't think The Collector was that good at first either, but now it's really grown on me quite a bit. I love the piano line as he sings "every last one, every last one."

Is it totally impossible to download Still songs!? Everything besides And All That Could've Been are so hard to get. Does anyone have the whole album with the single songs that they can just post up or personally give to me or something, I'm totally craving it right now.
I'm pretty sure clearvision has it, and I think magicaltroll does, but I'm not sure. If you want to try and flag down either of them, I'm sure they'd give it to you. I have it, but I don't have the songs on my computer and I can't rip them at the moment.

Still is back in print, officially, as others have said. Check the NIN site.
Also, I kind of like The Collector. If anything, it reminds me a little bit of March of the Pigs, just the way the beat ****s with your head, and is really unpredictable. For me, Sunspots was kind of boring, and it took me a while to appreciate Beside You In Time. Otherwise, this album has really grown on me, inspired me, and I love it.

In conclusion, after listening to nothing else for two days; I still like every single song. Sunspots, Beside You In Time and With Teeth included. I really do have no favourites. Also, Trent Reznor is coming to live in my wardrobe if he knows what's good for him.

Agreed, that song stilllll gives me goosebumps when I listen to it, the more I listen to this album(been listening to it since I got it) the harder it is to pick a favorite song.
But I get this realllll nostalgic feeling listening to Beside You In Time, at the point when Reznor is repeating "and on..." and the similar sounding tune of "The Frail" playing behind him, it just feels like to fully appreciate the song you have to have been listening to NIN for a while.
I really can't get over how awesome Trent Reznor, NIN and this album is. I love how much Trent is doing for the fans too lately, with the Garageband remix files(I really hope he keeps that up.), answering questions on his website, this is all just reminding me why Reznor's one of my favorite musical artists, ever.

When you click the links, you should get the "you have the following file available for download" screen, then click on the link to download the file. Click where it tells you if the download doesn't start, and then select the "save" option. That should work...:-/

Back to With Teeth, the first thing about Only that really grabbed me was the bassline, and I realized how great a second single this will make.

I bought "With Teeth" a few days ago and I think the entire album is absolutely amazing. It is definitely one of my worthier purchases recently, I am SO glad I decided to buy it. My favorite song is actually "Only" because of it's great bassline and Reznor's captivating vocals. This being said, I believe with no doubt in my mind Reznor has done it again!

Haven't really gone into the lyrics yet, as in figuring out what I think they mean... I should get on that.
EDIT-I thought the second song was You Know WHAT You Are? not You Know Who You Are?... Weird...
I like the lyrics on this album a lot. There are plenty of motifs that will keep me busy in deciding on how they relate to each other...Also I love hte lyrics of Right Where It Belongs. The line "What if all the world you thought you knew was just an elaborate dream?" It actually made me think about what that would be like and made me start pondering life a little.

My favorite lyrics from that song would be "What if you could see right through the crack? Would you find yourself, find yourself afraid to see?"
Pretty cool song, it took awhile to grow on me though, I wasn't really expecting a sonjg like that... I was expecting a depressing song, but this one is kind of depressing in its own way...

Yeah, it is. Actually, at first it didn't seem so much, but after listening to it more and more, I see that it really is a very melancholy and depressing song. The thing is, it has an uplifting tone to it as well. It's almost like the light at the end of the tunnel, that there is some hope left. That's something that didn't really happen on Hurt, which is the song it is most likened to.
It's a great song, I truly love it.
I need to think more about the meanings of this album. I seem to get a concept from all the songs, even though it's mostly not considered a concept album per se. I haven't put as much thought into it as I have TDS and The Fragile, but I guess it will come.

Right Where It Belongs was my favourite song on the album from the start, its such a simple and melancholy song but as you say there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
The themes in this album are to me are much more personal than his previous work, he has stepped out of the denial which drugs and alcohol have kept him in for the past years and been forced to take a good hard look at himself, in terms of where he has been, where he wants to go and his role in the world.
Ill do some better analysis when i get the chance.
