"Second Stage Turbine Blade"
"In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3"
"Good Apollo I Am Burning Star IV"
So, number one? Is it the Shabutie crap, or is it coming or what?

No it is comming, they meant to do that.
Yeah, I assumed so. Releasing the albums in "chronological" order wouldn't be pretentious enough for them :p

I don't think they're as good as people make them out to be. They aren't bad though.
So... album's been out for a little over a week now. Ten days.
I now know how to play Welcome Home, Ten Speed (Of God's Blood And Burial), The Suffering, and The Lying Lies And Dirty Secrets Of Miss Erica Court.
I already know how to play a quarter of the album.

If someone could scan the actual cover and post it up I'd really appreciate that

YAY! Someone let me borrow Good Apollo, and now I'm actually listening to it!
NP: Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial)
I'd say their sound has evolved in an interesting direction... I'm enjoying it at the moment, and I don't know if I'll ever get tired of "Welcome Home". I like the opening track in particular, how it ties in the opening themes of both albums before it in an orchestral fashion.
NP: Crossing the Frame
Wow, tracks 4 and 5 are giving off a vibe of SSTB, especially in the transition between them...
I know how to play all the songs. I just double-click the file named "00-coheed_and_cambria-good_apollo_im_burning_star_iv_volume_one_from_fea r_through_the_eyes_of_madness-2005-tc.m3u" and I play them all.

Did the album make the charts?
No, Billboard makes the charts. The album can only hope to sell enough copies to be listed on them. :)
How big was this band before IKSSE:3 came out? I can't imagine many people understanding the album then, since there was no way to really understand the story behind it. Especially since there was no hype or comic book to decipher it. I guess a lot of people liked it for the music (I know I do), but the strength of the band really lies in being able to continue the story across subsequent albums, and I just can't imagine it being that interesting to the average fan when there was only one album out.

Coheed and Cambria are in Guitar World. There is an interview with them. Not much about the story though. There's a CD that teaches you AFHA and part of Welcome Home. I haven't really read through the interview yet though.

I think it's definitely better than IKSSE, but probably not quite as stellar as SSTB. By the way, does anyone else think "Crossing the Frame" sounds like it could fit on the first album? Other than the bridge with the keys and harmonies in it, it seems like it would work perfectly on SSTB.
Really?
For me its
In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 > The Second Stage Turbine Blade > Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV: Volume One, From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness
Not to say that the new album doesn't kick major ***. Its still better than a good 90% of all my cds.

I started getting into Coheed like a month before IKSOSE:3 came out. I knew that there was a story behind the lyrics. Then when it came out I got it and tried analyzing it and then when other people did the same I figured out that my analyzations were wrong.

Are there any guitar players in here?
If there are, does anyone know what settings C&C use on their amps to get their sound as far as gain, EQ, and FX? Thanks.
I asked here cause I didn't feel like making a whole new thread in the guitar forum, but if there's no answers here, then I will.

I'd imagine it varies between songs and albums. I can't see them just using 1 specific combination for every single song.
DaveIsWrong
10-01-2005, 08:22 PM
Well yeah you're right, most likely it varies, but is there a prevalent setting that may be more common for them, that they use on alot of songs?
Not that I'm aware of. Then again, I'm not really the right person to be asking.

The concert was so incredible. The guy standing next to me was talkin to me before the show and he showed me this tatoo he had of the keywork and it was red and the background was black and it said Co&Ca and he said he was getting the guilltione on his back with all the dead bodies around it. So Riviera Theatre is kind of small but it was effin packed it was so stinkin hot in there. I was right up on the fence that seperated the pit from the stage and it was so sweet, Claudio's hair was so tight. But they didn't play much from SSTB they only played Everything Evil and Delirium Trigger. Off In Keeping Secrets.. they played Three Evils, Blood Red Summer and A Favor House Atlantic. Then off GA they played Keeping the Blade to open up then Claudio came out with his double neck and played Always and Never then played Welcome Home and Ten Speed right in a row it was so sweet. They also played Apollo I: The Writing Writer, Wake Up, and The Suffering. Then the played an encore of In Keeping Secrets it was so intense then they ended it with The Willing Well IV: The Final Cut. It was probably the best day ever it was so awesome!!!!!!!! I also got this tight zip-up sweatshirt it has the keywork then it says Coheed and Cambria and it has the Guilltione on it. They also had like a concept screen thing kind of goin along with most of the songs on a screen. They also had these two frame things one was a window and it had Ten Speed in it and then one was just a border thing and a picture of The Writer. It was so awesome!

DepthsOfDreams555
10-02-2005, 01:47 PM
Ya they also kind of slowed down the tempo on a couple new songs. Like Ten Speed and Apollo I it could've just been me but it sounded like the tempo was slower. Also the sound guys sucked everything was off the bass drum was like way to loud practically the whole show.
They are coming to Holland again in December. I am mad I won't be there then.
One week till Coheed hits Portland, Oregon. It's going to make my week.
Playing the same place as they did last year, so I don't think I have to worry about space or sound or anything, cause the Roseland rocks. Last year was awesome thought. It was on halloween, so all the bands came out all dressed up and sh*t and Underoath tossed out candy.
Whoever is seeing them on Halloween this year, I envy you, and I want you to know, it is going to rock so hard.

Ya the sound at the Riviera sucked so bad it was terrible didn't take away how awesome they were though. Yeah, like in "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3", in which he starts out using clean tone with a bit of echo and tremolo, followed by straight-out sections of distortion. In the third section, he returns to the clean tone, starts the song over again, and then heads back in to the full-out distorted section.
Similar to "Time Consumer", starting with a clean section, followed by very heavy distortion.

Also the Demo of Everything Evil is pretty much the same as the original version. I noticed that Mic sings KBI at the end before the "I wish goddammit" parts and he does after them too but thats the way he does it live.

Yes I know it changes between distortion and clean tones. I'm asking how they set up their distortion, such as the gain on it. That's what I'm asking. What they set their gain too, and what they set their low, mid-low, mid, mid-high, and high on the EQ.

**** sony....
I read in a magazine that Claudio absolutely hated the recording part or something. He said he'd never go through that again. He said he hated it that for most songs take #37 was used and that he believed that take #1 is usually the best one.

Well I know in the past after they recorded SSTB they had some problems but recently I have thought they were fine. Coheed like they arent very like enrgetic on the stage they don't jump around and stuff they jus play their instruments. The only thing I thought was weird is Travis seemed really pissed off. This guy standing next to me at the show was like screamin his name ever break between songs and he wasn't responding at all and I am sure he heard him we were like 10 feet away.

Well I know in the past after they recorded SSTB they had some problems but recently I have thought they were fine. Coheed like they arent very like enrgetic on the stage they don't jump around and stuff they jus play their instruments. The only thing I thought was weird is Travis seemed really pissed off. This guy standing next to me at the show was like screamin his name ever break between songs and he wasn't responding at all and I am sure he heard him we were like 10 feet away.
i was standing like 3 people to the right of zach and i was like 6 or 7 feet from him shouting his name and he didn't respond to anything either... i hope that everything gets cleared up...?

Hey, I searched this thread a little, and didn't see this anywhere else, so I figured I would provide it for everyone trying to decipher the new album. It's from an interview in Alternative Press with Claudio himself...
Keeping The Blade
"It's a collection of intros from both previous records, but put together--which can only mean the end."
Always And Never
"The Writer starts to lose his mind over the devastation of this love he's been seperated from. In the second verse, the Writer talks about her, and the influence on what is to come in the story."
Welcome Home
"The Writer has a vision. He sees himself in this disfigured form, and a woman bound next to a grave. And the woman says, 'Don't kill me, I loved you.' And he says 'What do you care? You left me this way. The only way my pain will end is in your suffering. Now get in the ground.' That's the scene in the video."
Ten Speed (Of God's Blood & Burial)
"Ten Speed is the Writer's subconscious, like the Son Of Sam dog. This is a dialogue, Ten Speed telling the Writer that he knows of a way to get out of his rut: all he needs to do is stop doing the story."
Crossing The Flame
"In Second Stage, the Writer wrote a love interest for the character (Claudio). Her name is Newo. 'Crossing The Flame' is the parallels between Newo and Erica Court, the Writer's love interest."
Apollo I: The Writing Writer
"This is where we meet the Writer and learn his motive. As the writer of this story, can he really be looked upon as a godlike figure to these characters?"
Once Upon Your Dead Body
"It's Ten Speed trying to get the Writer to kill off Claudio. And the Writer sees it as Ten Speed trying to talk him into killing his love interest. And the Writer is saying he's no murderer."
Wake Up
"It's a love song. You get a history of the Writer, that he'd have done anything for this person who went on to do this horrible thing to him."
The Suffering
"It's an extension of 'Wake Up.' It's a Queen-esque song, more like a play. It's the climax of the Writer losing it."
The Lying Lies & Dirty Secrets Of Miss Erica Court
"The Writer starts to realize that there's something else behind what Ten Speed is telling him: That no one will be following you when you end the story; everyone is going to die."
Mother May I
"Now, the Writer is realizing that he is the father of the story, and these are his children. The Character (Claudio) is losing it, and these papers are lined up in front of him, and on these papers in blood is 'God only knows.' And that's the answer to his questions."
The Willing Well I: Fuel For The Feeding End
"The Willing Well is where the two worlds collide. It goes back and forth between the characters in the graphic novel."
The Willing Well II: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness
"This is more from the Writer's perspective: He's become isolated from the world, and he finds a way out, which is to destroy the story."
The Willing Well III: Apollo II: The Telling Truth
"This is the full-on end, where the Character (Claudio) is coming to the Writer, and the Writer says to him, 'You are the one, I am your God.' And, 'In my presence, you will make sure the fiction meets its fate...All the worlds from here must burn.'"
The Willing Well IV: The Final Cut
"The Writer gets brought to this guillotine with wings, and at the guillotine is his love, Erica Court. And the blade comes down on the Character (Claudio? the Writer?, I'm a little confused here), but he does not die--he realizes what he has to do."
Bron Yr(the disc's hidden track type thing)
"Sometimes you watch a movie, and you get a lot emotionally. And at the end, there's this weird song over the credits. It's like that."
[/U]
That was taken from the November 2005 Alternative Press. I found it interesting, yet still a little confusing. Claudio also states in the interview, that "Good Apollo, I'm burning star IV" pretty much is Claudio (the character) saying "I'm here to destroy everything"...hope you guys find this interesting and helpful

It is a part of the story. Claudio is writing the story, so he feels that having the songs very similar adds to the effect.
Dave Parker, long time friend of Coheed and Cambria drummer Joshua Eppard, will be fielding rhythm guitar and keyboard duties for the band's fall tour. He in large part played a role in the success of Eppard's hip-hop side-project, "Weerd Science", and also has a band of his own called "Divest", which are now taking a break.
Coheed And Cambria are currently touring in support of their latest album, "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star V - Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness," released September 20th through Columbia Records. The album is steeped in the classic rock of the band members' youth, according to Josh Eppard.
"Playing that kind of stuff is very exciting for us," Eppard said in a statement. "We're really going back to our roots and giving a nod to people who inspired us to make music in the first place, whether it be Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Police or something else entirely."
Dave Parker will play for the following Coheed And Cambria tour dates, according to CobaltandCalcium.com:

Yup the Portland show WAS amazing. The only part I didn't really like was final cut though :/. It was neat that they went a little longer than the recorded version but they just kept going and going it lasted probably a good 20 min and it was a little rediculous I eventually just left and stood outside for a while. Yeah but other than that it was totally awesome.

I find that hard to believe that they played The Final Cut for 20 minutes. I'm guessing that is an exaggeration because in Chicago they ended with The Final Cut and they went longer than the recorded version but it was only like 9 minutes or so. That would be pretty crazy.

That was a wicked show.
And yeah, the song pretty much did literally go on for that long. It was long enough to see Mic lose his interest in the song and just lean back on the pole and chill for a bit.
"I want to thank you all for coming back... and I wanna thank this pole for coming back too."
The low point of the night for me had nothing to do with Coheed, which is a good thing. It was seeing some chick get really f*cked up in the Blood Brothers pit.

Oh yeah and waiting for coheed to come on for about 10 min wasn't too fun either.
the whole time Blood Brothers was playing I was thinking "They need to get off the stage now so that coheed can play" :P.
I only caught the last 1/3 of Mewithoutyou's set which made me mad because I really wanted to see more of them.

I actually kind of liked Blood Brothers just because it was something different. I mean, it isn't different to scream and sh*t, but the music itself was. A nice blend of Funk, Psy Rock, and Hardcore. I enjoyed it. Heh... actually litening to one of their songs right now.
MewithoutYou was just ok in my opinion. I wasn't a huge fan of the singer. It wasn't so much of singing as it was doing slam poetry over music. But again, the music was pretty good.
I loved Dredg. That right there is an amazing band. All around good. Their opening song (which I've now come to find is called Ode To The Sun) was just kicking my ***. That guitar riff was fantastic. And the one song where the singer played the slide guitar with the drumstick... wicked.
And of course, Coheed was the best. The set was almost flawless. I just wish they would have played The Crowing. It was funny though. I was with a group of people I knew, and out of the four or five of us, I was the only one who knew any of the songs off of SSTB. They only knew IKSSE:3 and Good Apollo I.
And now, my neck hurts like a bitch, and I have an Opeth show to go to tonight.

I did like The Blood Brothers, like you said there was a girl who get hurt, there was this small black guy in our pit and I saw him and then I looked for him like at a break and he was gone haha. I agree I don't like mewithoutYou because of their vocals. He doesn't sing, and that band doesn't have very good stage presence.

I'm ever so pissed I missed the Vancouver show. And to top it off, my brother's friend got to go to the concert for free, AND interview the band after! I'm missing too many good concerts. I missed Alexisonfire and Underoath, Strung Out, and now Coheed. I would have missed the first three for the chance to see Coheed live though.
haha, in the past month, ive seen, alexisonfire, underoath, the used, boys night out, fall out boy, panic! at the disco, the starting line and motion city sountrack, and now coheed and cambria on november 9th!!!!

Man, you've seen some good bands recently.
I've seen like 12 shows in the past month, but I'm not seeing Coheed until Nov. 4th.

I just "coffee shopped" some Coheed and Cambria... I played, as part of a fifteen minute set, a medley that consisted of the intro to "IKSSE: 3", the intro and first two verses of "Neverender", and all of "AFHA". I mean, they're all in the same key to start, really. It actaully went pretty well, I have to say.

I haven't really listened to all of those bands so I can't make an informed decision, but Fall Out Boy and The Used are definitely horrible, with everything else being passable or unknown.

I've been listening to SSTB (and Co&Ca) for the first time today. It's pretty good, but of course the vocals got on my nerves. Matter of time I guess.
And I've been reading some parts of the story and man...this thing is for freaks.

Its sci-fi stuff, I mean I guess you could say it is for freaks but if you turn on the sci-fi channel your going to get the same kind of stuff.

A note on the lyrics. The lyrics are telling a science fiction story about Coheed, Cambria, and Claudio for albums 2-3 (SSTB, IKSSE: 3); on album 4 (GAv1), the story itself is being written by a new central character, The Writer, and part way through GAv1 the two worlds merge and collide. Craziness.
Also, the lyrics just happen to be violent, mostly because the story content is very dark and sci-fi. Like how Co&Ca had to kill their children right to start in SSTB. Or how Claudio lives in a dream that turns nightmare that turns reality in IKSSE: 3. Or how GAv1 chronicles The Writer's journey towards insanity and how the conflicts in his life contribute to that journey and influence his story.
It was bound to get violent at least somewhere.

They're re-releasing Second Stage Turbine Blade. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000AQ68VE/qid=1129447444/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-0001349-6040644?v=glance&s=music&n=507846) The bonus tracks are Elf Tower New Mexico (b-side), Junesong Provision (acoustic demo), and Everything Evil (demo version). I don't know if I'm going to spend $12 just to hear those three songs since I already have the original album.
If anyone has Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, IKSOSE:3 and GAIBS4, can you try something for me? I heard that if you play IKSOSE:3 when the movie starts, they sync up perfectly, and that exactly when "21:13" ends you play GAIBS4 and that does as well.
SPOILERS BELOW ABOUT THE SYNC
1. The burning sound during "The Ring In Return" matches up with the creation of the rings (in fire)
2. The battle scene at the beginning syncs up with when the band comes in during the title track
3. Someone dies during the first "we'll have you dead pretty soon" lyric
4. When you see Golem's sillouette is when the soft pretty part during IKSSE:3 comes in. and once it goes to the "the navigator, the pilot" part the scene ends.
5. When the big chrous comes back in during IKSSE:3 Frodo jumps onto Gandolf's carriage... you can really see the suspense building during it.
6. During Three Evils, the party for Bilbo is happening. It's upbeat... lots of dancing... good times. When Frodo's two friends steal the dragon firework from Gandolf and set it off inside a tent the music changes as it get's launced to the "on the wrong way out, on the causeway to neverwhere" part
7. The eeries stuff between songs (ie: between Three Evils and The Crowing) is there for a reason... it reflects the mood of the scenes (in that case, the snide, cruel manner in which Bilbo gives his speach)
8. The "monstar scream" that opens The Crowing happens right as Bilbo puts the ring on.
9. "Your face and a door between" is said when Bilbo goes outside of his house, the door is open and Gandolf is on the other side trying to talk to him.

Kif, I may have to try that sometime soon. I dunno if it will work great though, I wouldn't know when to start Co&Ca.
Basically if you have remotes for both CD player and DVD, you just press start at the same time. You'll know it's right when the phone ringing (the first sound you hear on IKSSE:3) syncs up with the DVD menu change (the little ~ thing's to each side of "Play Movie" fade out with the phone ring. you'll know what i mean when you see it).
Apparently it doesn't work with the extended version either. I don't even have the movies, so I can't try it

Damnit, I only have the extended version, I think.
I have a 4 disc version anyway, so I'm guessing it's the extended one.
