Man it's just their first album is way better. The sound is more fresh and original. On the following album they sound quite like lots of bands I've heard before, maybe with a little distinctive sound on the vocals and also the production on IKSOSE is unnatural. Bass lines for example sound much better on the first album, clean guitars too, and Claudio's vocals sound much better in SSTB ... Still, as I said, there are some amazing songs on their 2nd album, but their first had no bad/mediocre songs.
ive been trying to get back into these guys lately
So apparently Chris Pennie is the new drummer for CoCa. What happened to Josh?
Since nobody answered this, I will.
Right when the band was about to start touring this past fall, Josh Eppard and Michael Todd both left the band (left, not booted out). Apparently, there had always been some tension with those two when it came to going on tour because they hated being away from their friends and family for such long periods of time. It's pretty understandable in some ways, but not the best choice to make over all, imo.
So Chris Pennie filled in on drums and some other dude who I don't remember the name of filled in on bass for the time being.
However, just days before the band went into the studio to record their upcoming album, Michael Todd decided that being gone from time to time was worth being in the band, and rejoined.
Josh Eppard is still gone, and... I haven't heard much about him since.
My guess is that he'll now be putting more and more focus on his Hip-Hop project, Weerd Science.

Dude, I don't think anybody has said that they were only good on their first album, because we all know that's not true. They've always been good. Even on the first Good Apollo Album, they kicked ***, despite thier total change in direction.
We're just saying that they were at their best on SSTB. And I have to say that I fully agree.
But this doesn't mean I think they've gotten any worse over time.
Actually, in my honest opinion, the order I put the three albums in so far would have to be:
1. Second Stage Turbine Blade
2. Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV; Volume 1: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness
3. In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3
I'm not trying to troll but it just amazes me that the C&C fad isn't over yet. It boggles my mind.
You my nig, Cob.
Except that it's not a "fad".
People like what they like.
We don't listen to Coheed because it's "popular" or because it would somehow make us cool.
We listen to them because we actually like them.

Coheed is so lucky in some ways. They essentially dropped their bomb guitarist and bassist and got lame replacements, but, they still have Claudio and now Chris Pennie who is just so ridiculous. Now if Pennie would just impose some of his technicality on the rest of the band they'd be a whole lot more interesting.

yeah pennie has talent but i doubt he'll fit into the band. I hope his "try too hard" drumming doesnt affect the basslines too much either :(

The basslines (like almost everything else in the band) have been buttcrack since SSTB.

they got Taylor Hawkings from foo fighters on drums for the new album. but still are gonna use Pennie for the live shows.
and they have some good bass lines but they just get mixed back
so anyone see them at warped tour? im going this saturday, should be good

New song is up on their myspace page.
I love it, along with anything else they've done.
Yay, I heard it from the warped tour videos, but the real version makes it a lot better, naturally.

08-07-2007, 07:13 AM
Not bad. Still has a lot of that GA feel and the overproduced sound it had in GA as well.
I'm going to get my hopes up a little for this album. Just a little.

It'll be interesting to hear how much he alters the recorded drums,
especially as Taylor is much more a typical rock drummer - i've already noticed this on the new single.
One thing Josh was good at was really making the drums sound good when they played live, I hope that isn't missed.

Well then I guess you realise there really isn't much difference in the way he constructs his basslines from the 3 albums! All fun to listen to and play and in a similar vein.

Yeah it will be interesting, I really think Josh will be missed to be honest.
It does seem strange theyre using different drummers for live/studio instead of getting a permanent member of the band... anyone know why theyre doing it that way?
cobert
08-07-2007, 08:40 PM
They might have been similar, but in SSTB it was anything on IKSOSE (not so much on GA) but waaaaay more creative.
Seriously, the bass towards the end of Hearshot Kid Disaster (in the breakdownish part) is still so fun to play, same with the intro to Time Consumer.

I think they wanted to get the album tracks down asap, and Pennie wasn't quite ready to at that time or something, still involved with DEP perhaps?
Either way, it's Pennie all the way now.

fair play, i enjoy the bass on all albums though. the bridge bass bit near the end of tenspeed is sooo good to play yet really simple :D mic is a legend!
As for the new song on their myspace, I wasn't sure about it after the first couple listens but I love it now, definately excited about the new album! :thumb:
yes the new song was so good live! And everyone was into to it, its good to see Mic on stage with them still. Im so pumped to hear more from them.

Chris Pennie is their official drummer now, touring etc. Taylor just recorded the new album as a one off, as I don't think Pennie was avaliable or something. And yeah, thankfully Mic is back playing with them.
Ahhh, i'm so excited for the end of next month, I wish it'd come sooner.

Oh well, I'll just get it again on the 23rd.

Yeah it's the clean version sadly, but it's still awesome.
Otisbum
10-15-2007, 04:04 PM
I'm not quite sure what to think of it the first run through.
On one hand, the last 5 group of tracks is great, as was with The Willing Well on GA1, but I don't really think this is better just yet.
Maybe it'll grow on me, but for now, my Thrice copy came in a day early. :)
DJ Ducksauce
10-15-2007, 05:35 PM
It's not all filler in the middle like GA one was imo.
Otisbum
10-15-2007, 06:14 PM
A couple scattered songs in GA1 were mediocre, but I think a majority of the songs were great.
But I see what you mean with some of the middle songs. The Lying Lies and Once Upon Your Dead Body were kinda dull.

Is Coheed and Cambria really pop punk? I've heard them called metal many times but why are they pop punk here?
DJ Ducksauce
10-15-2007, 08:25 PM
Nah, just more people in Pop-Punk like them compared to the R&M folks.

10-15-2007, 08:29 PM

DJ Ducksauce

Ironic seen as Coheed are basically Dragonforce-lite nowadays.
I preferred them when they were a cheesy pop punk/prog rock crossover not an even cheesier pop punk/power metal crossover.
JumpTheF**kUp
10-16-2007, 03:01 AM
The two songs they've released and the title track are the best in my opinion.
I'm just thanking christ that it's shorter than GA:I which was a ridiculous length. I cannot sit through the entirety of GA:I without getting bored, it's just too long tbh.

i just listened to the first half of no world for tomorrow. i like it so far. i'm just wondering why it didn't start out with the little piano thing that always plays. (Second Stage Turbine Blade, The Ring in Return, Keeping the Blade)
DJ Ducksauce
10-17-2007, 05:53 PM
Feathers is a great catchy song.
It seems like it would have been the single for the album rather than The Running Free.
Iluvatar
10-17-2007, 06:47 PM
It didnt start out with a piano piece I think because it isn't really a seperate part of the story, it falls in line concept wise with Volume 1.
Album is great, Feathers, the title track, The End Complete and the Road and the Damned are the best songs.

The End Chapter is brilliant.

i bought the new album a few days ago, definately good!
the title track, mother superior and the last track stand out for me, though all the songs are really likeable... some nice solos and driving bass.
One thing I miss a little is the lack of melodic interludes... its hard to explain, i mean like the bits in the willing well III and faint of hearts and ten speed... those bits are the best of coheed IMO.
the album is definately on par with the others though, its a little more technical and different, but the production is good, as long as you have a decent sub this album can be awesome :D
hey, you're not cory!
10-25-2007, 06:04 PM
So, the new album falls short of their first two, but I'd say it's definitely a step up from Good Apollo Volume 1.
DJ Ducksauce
10-25-2007, 08:47 PM
I'm not sure as to where to place it with SSTB and IKS yet.
GAI<others for sure though.
So Bag Online Adventures should be the next CD right? The prequel or whatever?
Oh, and does anyone have the Explicit version of GAII? All the torrents I'm seeing are clean.
Holyed
10-26-2007, 09:51 AM
So far i'm going with IKSOSE > SSTB > NWFT > GA
I heard like 4 of the songs before I got the cd (which I waited for,) which has kind of ruined it a bit for me, as I rinsed those songs, so only really have 9 new ones to listen too. I love this album already though, although I was hoping the Fall Of House Atlantic, would be a song similar to House Atlantic, but oh well. Its confidently affirmed me of why they are by far my favourite band.
Oh, also, I got up at 9am this morning to get presale tickets for the Brixton show in February. Anyone else coming, or planning on coming?

Ya, they edit out "cut", "whore", "die", "kill"... plus all of the cuss words. It truly changes the entire CD, for the worse. The much much worse.

See: Second Stage Turbine Blade
calling that album a pop punk album is like calling certain saves the day albums post hardcore albums

It's closer though. And BRS, AFHA, Suffering, Feathers have a lot of pop-punk qualities.
The main reason this thread is in Pop-punk is because it got the best reception here. People weren't all "The singer needs to grow a pair." and shi.

im just saying the album is pretty much just a rock record with a high pitched singer and post-hardcore influenced guitar work.
and those songs all have more in common with 80s hair metal/popular metal songs than any pop punk I know.

Well yeah it's totally more a straight up rock record than a pop-punk one, but putting this in rock/metal (since this was made before GA came out) would be retarded.
Nobody really cares about where threads are put, as long as there are a lot of fans of the band in that forum. There's been Taking Back Sunday threads in hardcore because people there ****ing love them.

I actually prefer "The Crowing". However, as untouched and raw as SSTB is, there still some awesome songs on there (Junesong included), but "The Crowing" always just pumps me up, and I usually get chills at the "Dear Ambellina" part towards the end.
