Ya that is true but the new stuff matches well with the storyline still.
The atmosphere doesn't.

I always thought of SSTB as their best, even though i never quite saw it as setting a dark atmosphere.

DepthsOfDreams555
12-12-2005, 07:48 PM
Well I can see the dark atmosphere but I don't think the 'atmosphere' really effects the story very much. I think their music is fine with the story. Atmospheric and every other aspect haha just really hard to depict.

Special Brew
12-12-2005, 08:00 PM
Well, it has a darker atmosphere when compared to the other two albums. The darker feeling matched much bette rwith the twisted storyline than the new stuff does. I still like it, but it just doesn't have the same feel. I don't really know how to describe what I mean.

cobert

I know what you mean. The lyrics to three evils and that point in the story dont exactly match up with the music.

Me: Hey, Claudio hows it been going?
Claudio: Pretty good, pretty good.
Me: Hey me and a buddy on this forum were arguing about Everything Evil.
Claudio: Ya what was it?
Me: Well I think Mic screams KBI not FBI at the end because KBI makes sense FBI just doesn't make sense.
Claudio: Of course it is KBI, FBI wouldn't make sense.
Me: I thought so, so what you doing tomorrow?

The rest of the convo isn't important we were just shooting the breeze. So there ya have it, from Claudio himself.

Yeah I can, I don't have anything to record it with though. When he goes super high I have a harder time but for the most part I can keep up with all the songs.

Guy: Lots of Coheed songs are very pop-punkish. What do you suggest they are?

I can think of about four or five.
Favor House Atlantic
Faint Of Heart
Blood Red Summer
Devil In Jersey City (kinda stretchs it, but... meh)
The Suffering

MAYBE The Willling Well II and MAYBE Once Upon Your Dead Body, but I think those two also stretch it. The only reason I don't think Willing Well II is completely pop is because of other parts to it, like the end.

See, and then you have songs like
Welcome Home
Junesong Provision
The Light, The Glass
both of the Apollo tracks
The Crowing
Hearshot Kid Disaster
Al The Killer
Godsend Conspirator
Willing Well IV

If it were me, I'd just call them a rock band, with a lot of prog influences with every now and then, some Pop-Punk influences, some Emo influences, and some Metal influences.

I had forgotten this account's password, so I was using my backup then.

On the DVD there are the videos for: Welcome Home and The Suffering. The Animated Vignettes are on it, some stuff from the studio, and A Favor House Atlantic: The Movie and bloopers. The movie was pretty stupid IMO though. Nothing to do with the story.

I'm getting broadband within the next week hopefully, so if I can rip the DVD to my computer I could send it to yall.

No, I had listened to them a bit. I liked all the more famous songs (Blood Red, Welcome Home, Favor House) etc... but when I listened to the other stuff I just couldnt get into it because of all the changes (in tempo, melody, blah blah) and etc. (now mind you I hadnt listened to it in depth, just you know five seconds of a song here the first minute of one there).

After seeing them live (got free tix, from a buddy) I decided to get GA for christmas... Listened to the whole album start to finish 5 times in one day and decided to pick up SSTB (a friends favorite)... Liked it, decided to pick up IKSSE:3, loved it... Coheed is now my favorite band

I've had In Keeping Secrets... playing in my car for two months now; I can't bear to take it out. I just got Good Apollo... today (though I've heard it before) and listened to it about 10 times while putting together a puzzle.

I've also had a serious love/hate relationship with the band. I couldn't stand them when I first saw the video for "A Favor House Atlantic" years ago, but it grew on me and I bought the CD. But I didn't like the CD. Then a few months ago I saw the "Welcome Home" video and thought to give them another try. That's when this new obsession began. I haven't listened to any other band since October.

It's pretty cool, I like Elf Tower New Mexico.
Lets all say how we got into Coheed.
When I first saw the Favor House Atlantic video, I was like, "Meh..it's pop punkish and I don't really like that stuff usually, but their name is too weird for a regular pop band and that one dude's hair is cool." Also, Mtv actually had good bands playing that summer, like Modest Mouse (their old stuff is better though) and Franz Ferdinand, so I decided that I would take the risk and buy their album.

So about a month later, I get a chance to go shopping and I pick up In Keeping Secrets, and pop it into the cd player in the car. At first I thought I had just bought another **** cd, because I have a knack to buying crap. I listen to about the whole thing by the time I get home, and I'm not pleased.

For about two weeks, I don't touch it, then I go to this day camp thing, which I only went to because there were some hot chicks. This one girl told me she loved Coheed, so I started listening to it and sharing the headphones with her and shtuff. :thumb: Yeah, so then I start getting into them more, and I start getting into her more, if you know what I mean, but you do, so I won't use that smiley.

So that pretty much covers it.

How I got into Coheed:
My first Warped Tour was in 2003. Coheed was not in my town, but I still went, and has a blast. I noticed they were selling sampler CDs, but I had no money for one, so a while later, I looked for it on the net, and sure enough, there it was... or something like it. But anyways, on this compilation was Delirium Trigger, the first Coheed song I ever heard. At first I thougt "Yeah, it's ok" but at the time I was into the more poppy Pop-Punk (to be honest, I watched Simple Plan at Warped Tour that year). But at the time, I had just barely started playing guitar, but as more time passed, I started getting more and more serious and started realizing how important musicianship was, and so I started enjoy more music that was difficult rather than poppy. So one day, I was looking for some new stuff to try and learn, so I could further myself, and here I stumble upon delirium Trigger once again. But this time, instead of thinking "Yeah, it's ok", my mind went straight to "Holy sh*t... this is fantastic". And from that moment on, I was a Coheed freak. Within the next week, I had both SSTB and IKSSE:3, both of which I now know how to play on guitar to their entirety, with the only exceptions of the hidden tracks, cause to be honest, they do no interest me. I also know about half of Good Apollo.
And since I'm starting to learn bass, Coheed is a good place to start off from. As it is with drumming, too.

I have to say... that's kind of lame. No disrespect but... that seriously is just a little bit lame.
Not to mention the fact that calling Modest Mouse and Franz Ferdinand good music didn't help you at all either.

Yeah, I know it's a little lame, but at least I love them now, and not because she likes them. And Modest Mouse's old stuff beats their new stuff, by far. Franz Ferdinand is alright, better than what Mtv usually played. For all I know, now they could be playing country and I would be oblivious, I haven't watched tv in ages.

Here's a short article from Absolutepunk for anyone who wants to read it:

http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=105390&highlight=coheed

Due to Claudio of Coheed And Cambria breaking his hand, the mainland European Coheed And Cambria/Thrice dates had to be cancelled. They will however be rescheduled for April. The UK dates will still continue as planned.

Here's a better article from Absolutepunk. It includes the postponed dates:

http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=105600

The holidays lead to family fun, and in this case, too much fun.

In his first night home from a long year of touring, lead guitarist and vocalist Claudio Sanchez of the New York rock band, Coheed and Cambria suffered a broken hand while "sparring" with his brother, Matthew. Matthew Sanchez is a boxer, and was clearly the winner of this one. The injury, fittingly nicknamed a "boxer's fracture", involves the ring finger and small finger of the right hand. The injury requires 3 weeks in a cast and a week or two of physical therapy.

Brother Matthew has inspired two characters in the Coheed and Cambria concept records; “Matthew” is a son of Coheed and Cambria in the story, and “Inferno” is the brother of Coheed, who is a Prize Fighter and modeled loosely after the younger Sanchez.

The band will be forced to postpone a portion of their upcoming tour dates in Europe with Thrice. Tickets should be held on to until new dates are announced in the coming week. They can then be refunded or exchanged for the new date. The make up shows will not be with Thrice, however, all shows in the UK will not be affected and will go on as planned.

The following dates have been postponed.

11 Antwerp, Belgium - Hof Der Lo
12 Amsterdam, NE - Melkweg
13 Hamburg, DE - Grosse Freiheit
14 Koln, DE - LMH
16 Oslo, NO - Rockerfeller
17 Stockholm, SW - Debaser
19 Copenhagen, DN - Vega
20 Berlin, DE - SO36
22 Munich, DE - Backstage
23 Vienna, AU - Arena
24 Zurich, SZ - Rollstofflager
25 Bologna, Itl - Astragon
26 Milan, Itl - Transilvania

Claudio sends his deepest apologies, as does the rest of the band, and promise to make these dates up in February in big style.

For that guy that made that thread about the Coheed Story without looking around I have an answer for you kind of. I'm pretty sure Devil In Jersey City had to do with the story but I have only seen that video like 5 times and last time I saw it was like 4 months ago. A Favor House Atlantic didn't have anything to do with the story but I remember reading somewhere that it just shows like a different side of the band or something I am not sure.

The Crowing video I think might of had little to do with the story but the whole band loves sci-fi movies and stuff so thats what they were shooting for there.

All the video's off the new album are related to the story.

Hot Topic also has an online store. I dunno if they do ship to the UK. Hot Topic is where all of the gothic people work. :p It's pretty expensive, but it's the only place i could fine the graphic novel.

It's kinda weird how they intertwine the story with the writer's mind. I love how a lot of the stuff references to the songs. I know it's supposed to, but it's still cool.

EDIT:

Haha. What you Coheed and Cambria fans think of this.

Coheed & Cambria
Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness
This band stinks of lame more than a ****s’ dying breath. Ok… Truth be told, I haven’t heard this album. I simply CAN’T!!! Why?! Well, after hearing their new single, while staring in disbelief like a hypnotized mental patient at the video (which shows the singer’s clown wig of a hair-don’t on purpose), I discovered they have the most pretentious… No wait, preposterous, album title ever created, “Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume 1: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness”. Do you ****ing believe it??? No really, that’s it. These guys like comic books and role-playing games. Do we need to explain any further? It’s as if this band has absolutely no understanding of the honesty, originality, groove, personality, luxury, obligation, empathy, and sexuality that is rock n’ roll. Yet, they possess an almost idiot savant like grasp of a guaranteed lifetime of virginity. This tuneless, vacuous concept music is as useful as a video diary of the band members braiding dickheads. Imagine, all the longwinded musical douche drinking of the band Yes, minus the musicianship, the message of love, and the excuse of being British. We strongly suggest you take our advice on this one and immediately, perpetually ignore these ****bags, until they dry up like the turds they are, and blow away in the fart wind of their retarded imaginations.

AND

Coheed & Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
Concept albums are almost always a sure sign of ****tyness, but imagine if one among the hordes of nu-emo / metal bands attempted to create their genres "Tommy" or something, except this time the concept is kinda like Star Trek, but turn the "dork" knob up to 11. Who would've thought we'd ever see the day that "prog-emo" came to fruition, fronted by a troll that sounds like Geddy Lee, and a band that sounds like two guitar players dueling it out in an Indiana Guitar Center? Dorkfest.

Sorry but I really don't think Coheed is pop punk. TIt's been said before but they are extrememly similar to Rush (besides lead singers voice) and Rush is basically classic rock/early prog. Also how many pop punk bands do concept albums let alone a series of them lol

We strongly suggest you take our advice on this one and immediately, perpetually ignore these ****bags, until they dry up like the turds they are, and blow away in the fart wind of their retarded imaginations.

you know what really convinces me that they are bad. The endless scatological references. Yeah that shows depth.

Lots of people have said this and I agree, there have been a few threads on them in R&M but unfortunately many of them have been flamed and also the thread over here is large and has been going a long time so there's no need to have one in R & M.

Actually I thought it was quite lame. I'm pretty open minded but the basic underlying reason for C&C sucking is because they are nerds... This coming from a guy who probably spends hours working on these articles that come up on some realitivly unknown internet website... nerd? I think so. Just because he bashes on other nerds doesn't mean he's not one himself.

Something Awful isn't "relatively unknown" and he actually gets paid to do that. But yeah he knows that music is all subjective and that, but the point is that he can takes sides on whatever band he wants and just make it funny.

Why are people so dumb that they don't realize 95% of what's on there is a joke?

Because they think it's more fun to point out where a humor writer messed up some facts about a band they really like. Not a good idea really.

I like the articles on bands I like the most, because I "get" more of the humor surrounding their bashing.
