Me and my friend were arguing today about which was better. I think the grudge is better because it just plain freaked me out. I thought saw sucked due to the ending that was dumb. Well anyway what do you think?

I didnt see saw, but nothing could be worse than the grudge. You say saw's ending sucked, but the grudge didnt even have one, it just kinda ended. Me and my friends actually waiting through the credits hoping there was an ending afterwards, but none came :(

Saw - not scary, mildly disturbing, suspenseful, awesome plot, excellent twist.

The Grudge - frightening, crappy plot, semi-decent story, obvious ending.

i'm going with Saw.

The Grudge was like the Ring--Revisted. It sucked. Japanese films are in a 'trend' right now with the horror thing... unfortunately they use the same scare tactics in all their movies. Its like those books 'Goosebumps', you read them when you were little, but the endings were always extremely predictable and the 'scary' stuff was always the same. The Grudge is a cinematic potboiler. Saw on the other hand, was twisted. I loved it. The ending had a decent twists and the movie itself creeped me out. I mean, if a story writer can think of messed up things like that to do to a person, so could a serial killer. Saw was much better imo

I only saw Saw but from what I saw and heard of The Grudge, it sucked. Saw was a good movie though so I'll vote for that because I have a feeling I would like it more.

+ terrible acting. I know, horror movies aren't supposed to be about the acting, but I was laughing at Lawrence when he was in agony. Not that the situation was funny, I just couldn't take him seriously.

I concur right there. His acting sort of killed the scariness factor for me. I broke out laughing in the theater when I was watching it. And wasn't that guy in Robin Hood: Men in Tights?

Everyone will try and say Saw, to look intellectual and "Oh look a tme, I voted for the thinking mans movie" , but to be honest, Saw has almost no lastability. Its boring as hell once you know what happens.

The Grudge is a much better film, its actually fun to watch! And you can watch it again and not get bored.

I watched Saw. I thought it sucked. The best part was when the main guy is sitting in the hotel room, with the Asian girl he was having an affair with, and theres this awkward silence, then the guy says something like "I can't do this any more." Then, this guy behind me goes "**** HER" It was halarious

I liked both....The Grudge I thought was actually half-spooky, and considering most "horror" movies are not scary at all, thats worth something at least.

Saw wasnt really frightening, just a little scary because something like that could happen in real life.

I think I'll go with The Grudge, but they're both good.

I just love some of the things they did in the movie Saw.
Like the main character guy(a doctor) cuts off his foot because he needs to get to a phone, and the only thing in his way was the shackle holding him down. Ironically, he cuts his foot off with a hacksaw.
The part where they tried to figure out how the fat guy died was great...the tunnel of barbed wire...GENIUS! I can't believe that the wire cut him so deep that stomach acid dripped out!
And if i remember right, there was a chair with powerdrills on the side!?!?! I forget wha happens with that one though.

Oh and the ending was stupid...I knew the killer was the dead guy in the middle of the room...I saw him move earlier in the film.

However, I would say that my vote would ahve to go nowhere, neither movie deserves my full-fledged praise.

There's some things that bugged me in Saw.

Adam could've easily shot the man in the middle of the room. I mean, the old guy took well over 20 seconds to fully get off the flow and know what was going on.

Larry, if he actually took off his blue overshirt he could've easily got to the phone by lasooing it, pick it up and know that the two were safe and wait for Zapp to get in, then use the revolver to shoot Zapp. If that would've happened, they would've found his tape player and listen to it. That means John would've had to have gotten up and take a look around to see that Zapp is dead, Larry and Adam are fine. If it took John that long to get off the floor in the real ending, then Larry could've easily shot John with Zapp's .45.

But Ju-On: The Grudge>Saw>The Grudge (American)

I can't decide :upset:

they were both so good, besides, they are completely different, this should either be called Saw vs. Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake or The Ring vs. The Grudge. I liked all four

okay dude, you need help because Ju-On was bull****. There is no way you could POSSABLY like that version more than the american one, it wasn't scary to any degree and it just dragged on and on forever.

There is no way you could POSSABLY like that version more than the american one, it wasn't scary to any degree and it just dragged on and on forever. There's a reason I like the original. Because the remake sucked. The remake was one thing right after the other, it didn't build up any suspense at all. Ju-On was a lot more chilling because the director made them look into the camera; hardly any director does that at all, which I found a lot more freaky. Everything wasn't fast-paced as the general American public was used too.

You have to have an open mind when comparing two movies that were done differently and of different budget. Because of the general American public and their 15 second attenion span, there was barely any suspense build-up. The first time you see Toshio's ghost (wife is choked scene) was done a lot better in the original. The remake had him just running around over and over but you didn't even see him. I thought that was lame.

I nearly fell asleep the first time I watched the Grudge. Have you ever seen 'The Minus Man' with Owen Wilson? Yep, the Grudge was almost as boring as that movie. You must have been high when you saw The Grudge.

ju-on = nice
saw = havent watched it yet

come on, ju-on is made more towards the asian audience. if you ask the non-asian they'll say like ju-on sucks. then again if you ask saw to an asian , they'll stare blankly at you and ask that's a show?

you cant compare movies made for diffrent people, the ring and ju-on was a big hit in asia. as for saw, well in my country no one heard of it and its only played on one cinema in the whole country

Why are you people comparing a suspense movie in Ju-on (gee, an american version of something japanese sucked? Surprise surprise...) to a drama in Saw.

Saw is far more like Seven than any movie in the horror genre.

I think it would have been better with a) better acting definatly and b) if the camera's had never left the room. The grusome deaths were nice and all, but not really necessary.
