well i'm not planning to be a jerk, but seriously. if i don't go with her, she can't come. the only reason she can come is because of me. like i said, in any normal situation, i'd do the gentlemanly thing and pay for her, but this is alot different. i've hung out with her 5 times, for about 2 hours at the most. she lives 3 hours away. it's not like she's been my best friend since kindergarten.
it's $125 for the limo, and then booze money, banquet money, food money, etc. i'm paying for the limo cost, my parents are paying the rest.

Honestly dude, chivalry is dead. If women want equal rights, they need to start carrying their own damn weight and paying for their own damn ****. Just my two cents.
However, I've gotta better fight for you.

just got back from my first jazz gig in college....it was fun. I played set on two songs, and we did The Chicken for the last song (its a really smooth funk song) that one of the other drummers and my drum instructor both played on at the same time, and I rocked out on the congas. Man that was a blast.

Hi, cant remember if I've posted in this megathread before, but here goes.
Im 17 born and bred in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Moved to New Zealand 8 years ago (1997). Been heavily into music these past few years, my father is a truely classical guy, into Mozart, Liszt, Tchaikovsky... stuff from the romantic period. My mother likes in her own words "simple music"... examples include Cliff Richard, Westlife, The Eagles, The Beatles, Elton John, etc...
The first music I liked in my truely rebellious years was heavy stuff... Metallica being the obvious heavy band that is the gateway to other things heavy. Bands through my heavy era would have been: Metallica, Iron Maiden, Children of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir, Blind Guardian, Dragonforce, Black Sabbath, Marilyn Manson (a bit of an exception), I could go on...
Then came this forum, and a sudden though "Hey, Dream Theater... cool name... lets see what their like." And thus began the next era of my musical interest... I cannot give them enough praise, and I wont begin to because it will make boring reading along the lines of "OMG GREATEST BAND !!!11!!!!"... and that would of course appear pathetic. So yes. Dream Theater came along, followed by Liquid Tension Experiment, and a general broadening of bands i admired. Names like: Tool, U2, Guns n Roses, etc entered my listening circles.
Also came a little band called Rush. Fronted in my eyes by the fantastacle Neil Peart. He entered me into new bands as well (Frank Zappa, Led Zeppelin, Pink FLoyd... I was also getting interested in more influences of my parents: many of the above mentioned under their names, additionally Holst.).
Enough listing band names...
I am of course a drummer, being in MXDnP. I've played for 2 years in england, with a six year break, then just over 1 year in New Zealand.
drumming influences can be seen in the above list. Josiah (MXer) has also helped me, providing me with a practice plan, and introducing me to Vanessa Carlton (not personally unfortunately). Very talented artist, and Abe Laboriel Jr. is a talented drummer by no means.
At the moment I'm training to be an audio engineer at SAE Auckland... due to graduate July 2006 at this rate.
Any other New Zealanders out there drop me an email to sutton-pratt@xtra.co.nz if you wanna chat.

well i just watched pulp fiction for about the 10th time in my life. i love that movie. i'm not much of a fan of tarantino's other movies, most of them are way too overhyped.
i watched 'saw' last night, too, and that was way too overhyped for how bad it was. i've seen 'saw 2', and i actually half enjoyed it, but the original saw was terrible.
but i'm off to bed now, exhausted. going to re-arrange my room if i can't fall asleep. if not tonight, then tomorrow morning. i've been waiting to move in downstairs, but it turns out no-one in my family knows how to drywall properly, so now we're hiring someone. looks like i won't be down there for a while.

And they chase eachother around and do it. oh its for the 5000 years of pain part. My friend showed me all of the hand signals but i forgot them.
d00d why does age matter. Ill be playing pokemon when in 34 at work. then ill challenge other fellow trainers and then ill own them up and then i wont have to work because ill enslave them in return for pokemon choaching. yeah, thats how its going to be.

Wow... Remember like a month or 2 ago I said I auditioned for a band and I didn't get in. Well the lead singer performed on TRL on MTV a couple of days ago and their awfully close to a record deal. The part that pisses me off is that I'm listening to the work of the drummer and I don't it being sloppy because its a jam but it rushes and the ideas aren't really that great exept for a couple and I could have done just as good and better. If I only had better chops I'd be in instead of him. The other thing, I'm waiting to hear him solo in the third song of the jam. He played in my schools jazz band this kid is really good but I think I did more then him. He had SOME nice patterns with the opening hat and thats just about it, his feel is too mechanical(it sounds like I'm hating, I kind of am but eh I'm disappointed). I'm listening to the mid-end(last song) and he has some nice accents but their right on the bass drum hits, I don't know dissapointing that chops > groove... Wow, I just listened to the solo chops yet musical, okay I'm not so disapointed, the other thing after the solo he played like the kit the way he should have from the beggining. Like a beast

Money is just a kick *** bonus. I havn't got into that yet.. Right now I just got into a new band and im trying to get them to practice seriously. They like the idea of a serious band, but they aren't commiting to it :(
Also about that audition.. Some bands aren't always looking for the best they can get. Also has to do with their impression of you and such. Cause finding people you can get along with and such all the time can be hard. My last band was a good example of musicians clashing. It was a war...and i won because drummers have more objects :P lhaha nah

selling out is just another way of saying "hey, this band got popular, other people like them now too, **** i dont like them anymore, screw this."
dont make a song, technically that would be selling out, as soon as someone hears you music that is selling out...an actual band that sold out would be kiss, there the only real band thats ever sold out that i can think of.

i can't stand the whole "sellout" argument. 95% of the time, it's a 14 year old kid who listens to poppy music, and loves the cd until the band makes a video. at this point, the kid hates the band, only because now he knows that this band is being listened to by more than himself. it's always the kid that thinks his favorite band, which usually happens to be on a worldwide tour, is "underground". the kid thinks that the band owes him something, for one reason or another. he thinks the band must consult him with every decision they make.
once someone touring the world (or atleast a continent or two) in a small bus is able to move up to a bigger bus, maybe with showers and a bathroom, and are able to eat every day, they've automatically sold out. because we all know, the point of spending money to record your cd, spending money on advertising, going on tour for months on end, the whole point of all of that is to repeat the same record 50 times over and to never accept any money once you've broken even.
one of my friends even argued that bands that play concerts in large arenas sell out because they "don't need all the money, but they take it anyways". then he started rambling on about he'd rather play for 10 people who really really liked his band instead of 10,000 that kind of liked it. he then continued to say that he determined a band selling out once their t-shirts cost alot.
ignorance. aaaah.
well anyways, i've burned 5 cd's already today, and i'm about to burn a few more.
and i'm finally starting to get good work hours. this week i'm working sunday tuesday thursday, then next week it'll be sunday and 3 weekdays. can't wait for the money to roll on in.

This is quite a rhetorical question, but why does GuitarCenter Suck so much? I went to pick up a pair of sticks (got sick of my year old splintered ones, finally)
I asked to try out the Vic Firth Jazz and some Vaters. I am immediatly given random-brand bulk sticks. Horrible, heavy, and repulsive. I just sort of nudge them back. Then, once I decide on the VF, they decide to try and sell me a bulk pack of vaters.
They have one good employee in the drum section, and he was out sick.

That would suck, so much. What type of snare did you buy?

An old Mapex, it's aluminum. I wasn't able to find anything out about them (discontinued), but I got it for 100 bucks. I was looking into an ultracast, so I guess this is a pretty good deal. It's got some wear and needs a new batter, but woo at the price.
Auction link, if it feels like working (ebay can be weird about linking :/)

Mine's the classic 8 ball, you see yours is just a 3 ball.
I just made an 8 ball avatar with a santa hat and flapping tongue, but ImageReady crashed and I lost it. :(
edit - On an unrelated note, I hear Remo Practice Pads make a bit of noise, are they too loud for say, practising in a room at uni? I'm going to make some DIY electronic drums for when I go.

Sounds intriguing. What module are you thinking of getting? I think I'll probably get a DM5. After I've finished uni (heh, I won't even start uni for a couple of years), I'll incorporate it into my acoustic kit for effects and stuff.

Free showtime tonight!
That means I get to watch two whole episodes of the L-Word!
TWO EPISODES!
I also figured out how to work the devil machine so I can record it and watch them both so many times I have them completely memorized!
I'm so excited.
I can't wait for the new season just to see Moria.
She's so sexy in this butch yet still feminine way and her hands are great. Her fingers are perfect.
So long and bony and they'd feel so good and they'd taste so good...

It's the first TV show I've ever been heavily into, even though I've only seen one full episode.
It's great.
There are a bunch of clips here- http://www.hails-lword.net/media/S1episodeclips.htm , but a lot of them were removed off putfile.

Depends on the characters.
The scenes bewteen Alice and Dana are actually pretty vulgar.
The sex scenes between Bette and Tina aren't too great because Jennifer Beals, who plays Bette, has an agreement in her contract for no frontal nudity.
It's a shame, because Tina's got some mad good nipples.
