Alright. As most of you probably already know. I am a beginner. I am wonering why people put duct tape on their drums. I dont know what it does or even where exactly it should go. I also want to know what the strategy is behind this. Does it make them louder?

Also could someone give a good description of all the cymbals, what they sound like, what kind of music they are mostly used in, where they should be on the set, if possible even songs that the cymbal is used in.

Althought I know the hi-hat is used in almost every song. Im not so sure about the others.

No, it dampens them. Gets rid of overtones, makes it quieter, if anything. Bad overtones can be killed with good tuning, and its best to let your toms ring anyway, especially live.

makes them quieter, it reduces vibrations sent over the drums, its called muffling, and it can go anywhere on the drum, just not where you would actually hit the drum. it reduces ring/overtones

I just bought a Coheed and cambria cd. It has a big roman numeral 4 on it.

First impression was kinda acoustic, prog rock. Pretty catchy first "Real track" Nice lead part etc. Next handful of songs were ok, some getting repatative with the lead parts that sound near the same in everysong. Than finally came "wake up clean", IMO great song, Very laid back. The album started seeming popish until this song. Some pretty neat guitar pedal usage on later tracks, reminds me of Zeppelin, Allman bros.

Im not done with the album yet, But what do you guys think of this album?

They remind me of Rush with the high vocals Songs based off fictional stories, Near same guitar tone etc. Im kinda 50/50 with the album, One hand it has some neat prog parts. Than in the other, It has a few repetative parts (Mainly during the few middle tracks, still good songs. But more work on the compositional part would have helped immensly. I really liked the last few songs on the album, They are all about 7:30 long, Really neat sounding. They go through a few different genres while keeping there Alt sound. The sound is kinda like Mars volta, But with less expirementing, and more music. I think this album may need to grow on me little by little.

Well an update.... I got all of the wraps off my rack toms and floor tom. Next is the bassdrum and then time for the new wraps... It was only glued at the seem and I could just pull it off, it didn't affect the cheap wood at all.

then my dad suggested doing an oil

wee did it on a test peice of a bunch of different woods with swedish oil it really brought them to life and accented the grains

they look freaking awsome now

learning 'dance of the sugar plum fairy' on piano, going to a play in about half an hour. i'm all spiffed out, dress shirt, tie, dress pants. unfortunately i can't fit into my dad's dress shoes, so i'm going in my old soccer shoes, which are white. it'll do the job for now. can't wait to buy my suit next weekend.

My football team was having a party (yeah, we all get drunk, girls come too:) ) and there was so many fags that were going to show up! it ended up that it was going to be absouletly MASSIVE... so of course they were gunna shut it down.

And i guess there was a roadblock out by the beach where we were having it..

So there ended up being a new location for the party and i walk down(its close to my place) and on the way i dont know how many cops i saw.. so i went to the door and there was so many drunsk that they wernt letting people in and they were kicking people out..
