yee haw, we're in the ten thousands. :chug:
today i bought sgt. pepper's and abbey road, and a voice recorder for my drums. i just got it with the intention of bringing it back within 15 days, money back, and i tried it out, and it's not half bad. the guy got me to try out the more expensive one, but there's nothing on it i'd really need for recording drums, so i think i'll end up with the $30 one. i tried 2 mic placements, and i've got a general idea where the best spot is for it, but i'll do that tomorrow, since it's 10 past 10 already.
everyone watch stella tonight. comedy central, 1 hour 20 minutes from now.
everyone watch it, or i will severely hurt you all.
oh, and bb, you got the 10,000th reply, if that's any consolation...

sweet man. if i remember, its a cashiering job, so good luck with all the douches you get.
man, i cant wait to get my deposit slip next week(i get paid via direct deposit), its gonna be a good one. and at the end of the month or beginning of next, i get a raise (all the way up to $5.75 an hour from $5.50) so even more cymbal/snare/head/stand money.
Brokensticks
10-12-2005, 06:47 PM
a 25 cant raise thats crap. Eventually it adds up though but still could they give you more?? And isn't 5:50 under minimum wage?? isn't it like 6.50$ or are you young like me and dont get minimum wage.
spike9908
10-12-2005, 06:50 PM
no, 5.50 is min. wage. i heard they might be raising it to like 6 something sometime soon though, which would be great to have. i got lots of expensive stuff i want to buy.

spike9908

PA. and yeah the $.25 raise is crap, but ive only been working for 2 months, so i dont really care. after that if i do good on my reviews (not sure if they are quarterly or biquarterly) i get a $.50 or $.75 raise which isnt bad.
Brokensticks
10-12-2005, 07:03 PM

do you think another band/musician will have as much of an effect on music/society as the beatles had?
gastery6
10-12-2005, 08:17 PM
depends on the music and the people.
styler
10-12-2005, 08:17 PM
depends how people take them..i think people are becoming more aware of other types of music so i dont think it will be as wide-spread as with the beatles

my theory on the beatles question is that music is a progression, and it will continue to progress in small increments from time to time, but no band (in my opinion) will jump as far up the scale as the beatles did.
Brokensticks
10-12-2005, 08:35 PM
I agree, music is not what it used to be. I do not think any band will ever do as much as the beatles did. Most genres of music have been discovered. The beatles were introducing a genre so to speak in a way. We'll see though. But I think the beatles will always be the biggest thing to happen. Well besides Elvis i guess because he started it all.

I've got a '73 Slingerland set with Zildjian Avedis Cymbals (from same time as my set, 16 inch crash, 14 inch hats, and 22 inch ride)
I don't have many hobbies other than drumming and music.
Current wishlist:
A 14 inch crash
A 10 inch splash
Some 12 inch hihats
2 new hihat stands
A new bass pedal (something better than a strip driven ludwig speedking :P)

who wants to hear the dream i had last night? all of you do, of course.
well it started out normal, me and my friends were walking to school, but the sky was all green and purple, and after a while, i asked my friends why it was colored like that. they all looked confused and asked "do you seriously not know why?" and i said no. so they all stopped, and all at the same time said "today is the day of the doctor" so i got all weirded out, but they wouldn't tell me what day of the doctor meant. so i get to school, sit there a while, then i go to write, and i realize that 3 of my fingers (pinky, ring, and middle on my left hand) are just bones, and they have no skin. i just hide my hand, hoping no one's seen it, then i get out of class and go ask my friend what's going on. he tells me that every 5 years, we have to get the skin taken off of our fingers, or else the finger will grow to big and we will die. day of the doctor meant that we were all going to get the skin on our pointer finger taken off today. so i started freaking out.
then i woke up like in the movies, where they sit up, cold sweat, everything. man it was messed up.
i love my dreams, they're all so weird.

i've started to write my dreams down in a notebook, i wanna keep track of some of the weird ones. and since i start to forget small details as the day goes on, i keep it right by my bed and write it down usually once i wake up. should be quite interesting a few years down the road.
i forgot to bring my english binder home, i was going to type out another rant i did. my teacher's starting to get frustrated with me, telling me that i could easily be getting 10/10's, but i "add profanities" and she's trying to get me to stop by taking marks off.

supposedly if you have a lucid dream that means you are completely aware of the fact that your dreaming and you can control anything and everything that your doing in your dream. the possibilities are endless. you can make yourself do virtually amything in your dream and supposedly it feels real.
many people who say they can lucidly dream say they will dream of going to something like a board meeting that they are nervous about and see how everything plays out in their dream so that they are more confident in the real life experience.
others say they just fly around or do things they would never be brave enough or capable of doing in real life.
Plan B.
10-12-2005, 11:34 PM
Yes I've heard of this.
It's a concept I find very interesting. Very rarely can I deduce that I'm in a dream while dreaming, but when it happens it's very intense for me.
Have you seen Waking Life?

oh i gotcha. ive had a few dreams where i could do what i wanted but its usually that im being controlled somehow and i want to do something but i cant. like when i have dreams that involves running...i cant run...its like somethign wont let me run.

i do remember having a few dreams that could be described as lucid dreaming, but i only remember short short pieces of them. i've actually been reading up on this stuff in the past few months, it's a crazy theory. that's one of the reason's i've started writing my dreams out. i want to be able to control my dreams like those guys can.
some of their techniques are messed up. if they feel a dream start to fade, they'll dream that they relax and fall to the floor, and their mind thinks that they have woken up, but they're still dreaming. or they'll dream they're spinning/falling for this same effect. man it's messed up.

i'm still a bit sceptical(sp). but like you were saying, they do have some insane ways of tricking their minds.
my friend was showing me some mp3s he downlaoded where a voice constanly says, "am i dreaming? i am dreaming."
your suposed to play this the whole night on a continues loop. how it helps i'm not sure.
there are also goggles you can buy that detect REM (rappid eye movement) and shine a light in your eye to wake you subconsciece(sp) mind.

****, that dream controlling thing happned to me 3 times. This one time i was being chased by these guys, i was in a kind of a black walled maze, i stop and say to my self, this must be a dream, so i stop i punch the guy in the forehead and do the same with another two and i fly away, i get to this beach type place and then i lose it but i regain control in another part.
jim i will have all of hat tommorow, i have to type up somting for school. I tried to get you a poster from gadd but by the time i planned out how to get it to you the line was closed, im really sorry. RE: lucid dreaming, it isnt very safe unless you prepare yourself for days, possibly even weeks, if you become skeptical in your subconcious mind and fall, your mind will actually fall and you could have a siezure or a heart attack as your falling in your dream, and actually die in real life. one of my older friends ive known for a few years was excellent at it, then he went to bed on shrooms and had a lucid dream and actually hallucinated/dreampt that he was being raped or something, then had a heart attack in real life and died for like 30 seconds. before paramedics revived him i mean

I've played the stage ride it is quite nice. If I remember right it didn't have the biggest bell though. I would get that pack all the cymbals are awsome, except maybe the hats I havn't played them. The AA splash is nice but it just wasn't my type of splash I went with the K over it.

Drummer54 put it just to the right of your hats beside your high tom and pretty much underneath the crash on your left side. There are many other places to put it but I like it there.

i've started to write my dreams down in a notebook, i wanna keep track of some of the weird ones. and since i start to forget small details as the day goes on, i keep it right by my bed and write it down usually once i wake up. should be quite interesting a few years down the road.
i forgot to bring my english binder home, i was going to type out another rant i did. my teacher's starting to get frustrated with me, telling me that i could easily be getting 10/10's, but i "add profanities" and she's trying to get me to stop by taking marks off.
edit - post 10101 !!! whoo hoo!!!
I had a lucid dream last night and the night before. I was telling puppet master about it. The first one is too long to explain, and it was absolutely terrifying. Last night's one, I was being robbed by townies. They were stealing my kit in the middle of the night, and I caught them and tried to fight them. I managed to tackle one, and got on top of him and I kept punching him repeatedly in the face, except, he felt nothing. My attacks were harmless. I was vulnerable and could not stop them taking my drums away.
I guess you could say I am having lucid nightmares. I hope I don't have one tonight, as they are really really scary.

I can kinda relate to that. I always have dreams where I'm jumping on a trampoline, but no matter how hard I try, I just can't bounce. I get really tired, really frustrated, but I just keep trying.
Kinda the same concept- last night I was playing basketball in my dream, but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the ball to the ring.

Ergh band practice has again been left up to me to organise, terrific. Its the night beforehand and now I find out our bassist hasn't one of our guitarists or signer about it, so guitarist is gonna have heaps of trouble making it and will probbaly have to hitch a ride with someone. plus we have a gig in 2 weeks so this practice is totally vital.
I hate this crap, when I joined up I had no intention of organising this ****. Owell, I pray to god that it all turns out ok, and if not I think I'll be pulling my hair out and having serious thoughts about quiting. Not the first time this has happened.

I had a very similar thing. We were in maths doing quadratic equations, and I said I needed help because I had no idea how to solve quadratic equations. So he comes over, explains it, and then I just keep staring at the page of figures trying to figure wtf was going on. After 15 seconds he said "Thats it Jezen give my your diary!"

Hey guys. I'm not really a drummer(I would like to learn though), but regardless, I have a question.
In a lot of metalcore/hardcore breakdowns, the drums repeatedly hit this cymbal thing. They might throw in some double bass too, but you get my point?
For example, listen the first song on here, and wait until about 49 seconds into the song: http://www.purevolume.com/thebombsquad
My question is, what is that technique called?
