well i'm quitting my band tomorrow, for a while atleast. the tension's starting to get out of hand between us, so i figured i'd just let them know i'm taking a break while they regroup and figure out if they still want to be in a band, and to come back to me when they've made some progress. i just don't want a big argument to ensue and put our friendship in jeopardy. hopefully they can realize that bandmates and best friends are 2 different things.

anyways, i've been drawing constantly for the past few days, man i love it. i've always wanted to draw, but i always failed my art classes because i'm terrible at actually drawing real people, but i have all these "cartoony" images in my head that are partly similar to stuff like the guys from www.eyesuckink.com those guys, specifically alex pardee, kind of inspired me to do this. now i can't get enough. i'll go through a whole cd, and getting an image in my head from each individual song, and then i'll find a way to put lyrics from that song into the picture. it's alot of fun, and i'll scan some of them if i ever get a scanner.

I bought Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks yesterday, that game's badass!! Whoo!!

Now I gotta go pay $105.37 on my insurance, and set aside $60 for my bank (negative account, if I don't pay it off soon they're closing it. My dad's covering half.)
Then come back and band practice.

Oh and I figured out a solution for my broken-recorder problems. COMPUTER.
The TAPE PLAYER of the recorder no longer works, and that's easily fixable, but takes money which I'm short on right now.

SO! I'm gonna take one of the computers downstairs and use the recorder as a mixer (as far as I know that part still works), and record straight onto the computer.

technically, that would be numbfully comfortable. comfortably numb would be caused by being numb to begin with, and then being comfortable with it.

It sucks you gotta quit.

My band is doing kind of poorly right now, too. It also just so happens that my bandmates are my best friends. No one seems commited enough to make the band work, but myself. It's sort of annoying to be sitting there and making an effort while everyone else screws around...even our song ideas don't get developed, because we track off so quickly. Things are not well. *sigh* I guess it's just how it goes.

I am wanting to cut a hole in my bass reso, probably a 3.5 as i don't want to lose alot of the boomyness. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cut it with making it sloppy, or wrecking the skin? It doesn't seem too hard, I just wanted to get some ideas.

today i helped one of my friends make a movie we've been working on, about depression. i'm supposed to be depressed, and everything bad happens to me. i've already got a basketball to the face, and today we got a whole class (36 kids) to line up and throw volleyballs at me as i walked by. a few of those little kids got me right in the head. then after that, i got a textbook tossed into my head, along with a water bottle thrown quite hard at my head. it's some great footage though.

Haha, I love communications classes.

I think what's going to end up happening is my telling them that they either clean up their acts, or I quit. It would be alot harder for them to find a new drummer then it would be for me to find a new guitar player, bass player, and vocalist.

We had all summer to practice and stuff, and did quite a few times, and came up with stuff, but it never got remembered, even when I said "WRITE IT DOWN RIGHT NOW!" and ran and got them pens and paper. I really need to learn to play guitar and stuff....then I can contribute, and if worst comes to worst, write all the **** songs myself.

Thats the same situation i'm in sort of. Our gutair player can't really make anything up and stuff. The bass player is good and I can add stuff on to what they write. Theres no point in writing in the drums first.

spike9908
09-27-2005, 07:02 PM
thats one of the things that makes forming a band hard. you have to find dedicated people who can write and remember a lot of stuff, can be flexible with ideas, and dont have a huge ego. thats the problem with a lot of people where i live. their great players, but they have to be in the spotlight all the time. they refuse to lay back and go with the band

the one band i was in a while ago could write stuff, but the lead guitarist had to have everything his way. if he didnt like it, i wouldnt work.

theres a drummer who has amazing talent, but if you had him play a song with a simple beat with a band, he gets off beat and starts going into an all out solo.

a guitarist who thinks the only way a riff is good is if it is constant fast notes, no matter how horrible it sounds, if its fast, its good.

Jomofo
09-27-2005, 07:18 PM
Why? I mean seriously, there is no benefit.

I thought it would make it a little more thump-like and a little less boom-like. I'm getting a PS3 for the batter (I had to ORDER one, if you can believe), but I thought I could get a little more thud.

Gastery- my guitar player is pretty much the same way. Hes been playing for several years, but is just way too lazy. It seems like he never practices, or even attempts to make his own ideas for songs. Everything is kind of spur of the moment...it'd be nice to come to a practice and be able to just have some stuff we can jam on right away...rather than just plucking strings for a few hours.

Spike - I totally agree (with your opinion on band mates). There are some pretty good players here, but I don't seem to share their tastes in music. I don't really want to end up playing music that I hate.

It sucks my band is kinda going down to shits too. We jammed like everyday for the whole summer, or atleast everyday when everyone was around. Though now that school has started we have just stoped jamming. It doesn't help that both my guitarists have rugby everyday except for fridays. So we go to jam on friday and normally saturday but nother ever gets done and we just end up hanging out. I think we are going to switch places and start jamming at my house, as it is less "distracting", as one of my guitarists says, here, although I doubt that it can be that much more distracting down there than at my house. The plus is I get to play my kit instead of his shatty one, so it's all good. Hopefully switching up the area will spark some insperation and then we can get back on track.

it seems like you need some kind of motivation. Try setting a goal to get out and do a coule of gigs by a certain time, but it oenst seem like that will be enough, try signing up to play somewhere without telling them until the next day.

We have already played a couple gigs and everything went very well on both of them. Through out the summer we practiced for a gig we had at the end of the summer and also made some new stuff. After our gig we started to make apc type music and our guitarist/singer didn't really want to do that type of music so stuff just kind of stoped and we've been taking a break for a while. Them having rugby everday doesn't help either. I would try to get a gig together but we are to young to play at most places and our guitarist/signer wants to not gig for a while so organizing a gig like that would not end up very well. I have a feeling that after rugby ends we will start jamming more and stuff will go back to how it was last year and during the summer.

Maybe we need a break though, I mean we jammed like every free day, which was everyday except wednesday, for about three quaters of the school year last year. Then almost all of the summer, but to tell you the truth I didn't even notice it really apparently it got to much for, again, my guitarist/singer.

Dreams are weird.

Like, the ones where there is an 'outline' of you, falling and spinning.
Then there is an aerial view of you lying in your bed, and the BANG* the outline falls into your shape, and you wake-up.

I haven't had that one in a while...
Recently, I've been dreaming about Zombies chasing me, and tonight I am going to dream of Captain Howdy, because of that horrible picture...

Nah, I've tried crack and do actually enjoy it on occasion. Most often mixed with some sweet sheba. I don't prefer it straight, I think it lacks on it's own and can't see why anyone would be addicted to it.

and about dreams, i had the weirdest dream last night. i dreamt me and my friends were like the supreme court, and there was this one group of people who wanted a new letter in the english alphabet. it was a triangle, and they wanted it to be called "brown". and they insisted that it be between the letters k and l. and to decide whether it would pass, we all had to say "a b c d e f g h i j k brown l m n o p..." eventually we passed it, but the group of people had no intentions to use it in any word, they just wanted it as an official letter.

I went to the drummer, from the other pretty good band, in my grade's house today to see his dw's. There were really nice white with gold hardware, sizes were 12, 14, 16, 18, 22. His kit was really nice but the only thing taht bugged me were the tom angles. It made it kind of uncomfortable to play, for myself, but I guess that's how he likes it.

i had a dream 2 nights ago....

There was a family in a car and i couldnt see any of thier faces.... i just kept zooming in and out like from the back windshield throgh the front one, and it was totally pitch black and a sorta strobe like was going on and they where all twitching with thier arms at thier sides and then i realized it was blACk and white. Then i zoomed out and a zipper appeard at the top of all the necks on the back of thier head and it slowly started unzipping the spine unstil could see all the meat pulsating with the strobe. Then i zoomed throgh the spine and my alarm went off.

About a week ago i had another one i was like watching a little kids birthday party (i think it was spossed to be my own) from a birds eye point of view and they where all wearing little hats, about 5-6 years old. It was sunny and grassy and they where all hitting a pinyada and laughing. Then finally the pinyata broke and a grenade fell out and all the kids jumped on it at the same time and i woke up.

Sic's still takes the cake because i couldnt explain this very well.

Today I had a band practice. Guess what? No guitar player. Neat. We've got two, and neither were there, because one of them actually has a reason and the other just kind of dissapeared before school ended, then didn't even tell us he wasn't coming. Me and my bass player got tired of doing nothing, so we made a song called Ralph Vs King Nautilus. Ralph is a blue fish that lives in a coral reef 44 miles below sea level.

man, that was just nasty. his hand was like, ripped open. arent recluses the most poisionous spiders in america or something like that. i saw that a few months ago, it made me more afraid of spiders than i already was. i wasnt afraid of them till i saw the movie aracniphobia(sp). i dont really know why a movie did that to me, but it did.

Ok so here's the plan. Tomorrow i'm going to go down to L&M to pick up some heads and a splash. I was thinking that since i'm going to be buying 4 new heads, a splash, and a cymbal grabber I could probally get some sort of deal. How do you guys think would the best way of going about this?

anyone? I guess it isn't that important but i'd still like someone to help.

is there a drum track playing in the background or is it an instrumental that i can fill in? Well there is drumming in most of wootens stuff, but im sure you could find a midi file and take out the drumming.

ask them if you can set up a tab or if they can suspend your purchace (we do it at the grocery store i work at. basically they print a recipt that has a barcode with everything you bought on it and you go back when you have the money and finish paying it.)

rockindrummer
09-29-2005, 07:43 PM
^ The thing is I have the money, well it depends on which splash I get. I just want to mayb save a bit so I can just have a bit of money left over. Or maybe a pair of sticks or what ever.

I've also bought all my cymbals from them so they have my name and # with a list of like 7 cymbals that i've boughten.

brown recluse...ugh

yesterday I either stomped on a Wolf spider or a Brown Recluse, I didn't get a good look.

I was lifting a vent out of the floor to run a cable down into the basement, and I look up and from underneath the door a spider trots over and sits a few inches from where my hand was moments ago. STOMP! down the vent.

Gross.

Ok, since Lickety posted that MKII pics last page, here's an update on my busted MKIII...
it's busted.

Well the tape part doesn't work anymore.

But I found (yes, FOUND! on the curb, nothing wrong and it runs!!) a P2 computer, and hooked it up in the basement.
Now using the MKIII simply as a mixer and Audacity acting to record, our recording problems are solved!
:D
yay!

Oh yeah, badass news for my band.
I got an email yesterday asking if we wanted to play with Embrace Today, so of course I said "**** YEAH!"
*Embrace Today = well, http://www.myspace.com/embracetoday they're pretty big in the metal/hardcore scene*

So now we have a show on October 6th (7 days) and December 3rd, need more in october or november now.

So today a super awesome thing happened....

My school is getting a $10 000 grant for our band program!!!

Our band teacher has some major plans for the percussion section. We're gonna get our timpani fixed, buy a gong, rehead ALL the drums, and maybe buy CHIMES!!! I'm so psyched, I love chimes! And also, we're gonna get new cymbals for the set, and I might be able to buy the old ones for cheap. A 20'' A zildjian medium ride, 16'' A zildjian medium crash, and 14'' A custom hats! I'm super excited about all this, I can't wait!

Massik Kretal
09-29-2005, 10:03 PM
Cool. I remember when my band teacher got 1000 bucks to spend just for the drums. He went straight to me and told me what to get.

Ah K hi hats. :)

The band department at my school just got a new yamaha set last year. It is pretty sweet, yamaha maple custom. The cymbals suck so much though, B8 hats and crash they got a hhx groove ride which is nice but I don't particularly like it. It is like all wash and there is no real stick definition, which is what I love in a ride, and also the bell isn't very defined either which I also love in a ride. It sounds like a 19"ish crash, eventhough it is 21"

HAha yea, nasty buggers dem spiders. By the way, I have a neighbor who was bit by a Brown Recluse a few years ago. He was bit on the ankle, and pretty much it looked like those pictures... all of them, except those last few pictures, like that, except much much bigger.
He was a trucker though, and it was figured he picked the spider up somewhere outside of CA, as we don't seem them much here.
Pertaining too those spiders though, I hate them.
