Well i officially feel like ****.

Went to a ska-punk show today. All of the supports apart from one sucked more dick than a hooker. And to make matters worse i came down ill half way through and had to gut my way through the rest to see the headliners last show. If that wasnt enough then i had another great problem to deal with.

Lets start this one with a quick dip into my past. A couple of months ago all my friends had ditched me or left for uni. I had no one. I lived my life alone and turned to alcohol and drugs to try and help (FYI it didnt. Dont do it) and when in a drug induced stupor one day a lass helped me out. We got to talking and i kinda fell for her. We got together and lasted for a while and i was happy. She helped me clean myself up. Then one day outta the blue, she broke up with me. After a couple of days she was back, explainin it was a mistake blah blah blah, and like a sucker, i beleived her. Some stuff happened between us, and i was planning to ask her back out after a show. So jus before i leave for the show, she turns up at my door with a lad saying she needed a place to sleep with him! Needless to say i was devastated. So yeah, i took a turn for the worse.

Now things are on the up again, i had the guy she was with that night talking to me tonight. Talkin about her an **** they've done together. So yeah. Now im on the verge of another breakdown.

I know you guys probably arent interested but it makes me feel a bit better to get it off my chest.

If it makes you feel any better she's a skank man. Things will get better though don't worry just push through it and drum, that takes my mind off everything. Sailing does that too, but that's a different thing.

i will be seeing steve gadd october 11 at a clinic right down my street.

I just got the steve smith video in the mail off of netflix. I just realized why i was denting heads all of a sudden. I lost my suave touch. Im playing into the drums i hate this dam npad i need an electric. I find the video extremely corny and embarrassing to watch with other people.

oh this is THE video to get when your starting out drums i find it extremely usefull and wish i had this when i started so that i woudlnt go through periods of crap technique. he really explains everything well almost too well at some points. I am extremely pissed off that i missed his clinic now and i will lock myself in my closet and continue crying, i got out for some water but then i had to get on the comp.

oh britishboy the tr00 ghostnote is here http://forum.drumshed.org/index.php?

I went to the soundcheck for the festival im playing at over the weekend and it was pretty amazing. Great P.A. systems and we have a canopy with a 2 foot high stage it looks really professional for something a bunch of asians put together i thoguht they would get some cheap crap but they did a great job. I was pretty impressed. It even had those things that you can climb on so i might take off my clothes and jump off the top of that after th show.

the first 6 months of my life, i had to wear a hip brace type thing, where my knees were pushed right up close to my face. this was supposed to form my hips correctly, but it didn't do everything they wanted it to do. it just kind of "indented" the middle part, but the outsides are still pretty flat. oh well, i can live with it.

Dude, I read this and just quoted it and skipped the rest..

Because I was born with a dislocated leg and had to wear the same thing for 6 months! I actually remember it too, it was like basically a white cast surrounded in blue or something.
"They" (Doctors  ) said that I was never supposed to be able to walk or at least not without aid, and lookit me now! :D lol

But yeah sucks. Mine healed up ok, not like yours, sucks man. I was also born with a hole in my heart.

*gives a big e-hug*

If i put my emotions into music right now i'll be a big dirty emo kid

rockindrummer, i know she's a skank, the main reason it all crushed me so badly was that i'd gotten her out of my life and moved on and found other people to care about. And then she comes back in the most painful way possible.

On the upside, the band i went to see played an awesome set. And the drummer used a mapex kit that looks like someones on here. Cant remember who but its that nice red colour. Mighta been half life. I never get tired of seeing him drum. Its all so precise and perfectly in time, yet he flails around and dances behind his kit.

Its a real shame it was their last ever tour :(

Oh man went to a concert last night at a bar downtown....bouncers wouldn't let us in at first but after a talking to they obviously wanted the money and let us in saying they'd keep an eye on us so we wouldn't drink(which of cource they didn't)....Band name was The Unknown Soldiers who do The Doors covers. They were ****ing amazing, best concert i've been to for a long time..at the break we went out for a "smoke" and the cheff came and joined in...it was sweet. They have the best wings in town. Except i think i swalloed(sp) half a chicken bone and its either stuck in my throat or scrapped the hell out of it. They played everything except for touch me which was disapointing but whatever it was still awesome, but **** loud becuase it was a small bar and we were at the front.

man, that party last night was f'ucking terrible. there was like 60 people that actually went, and everyone was just being a bunch of assholes to each other. the cops came like 20 times and searched me and my friend multiple (yes, multiple) times. luckily we pre-drank at my friend's house. i drank a bit too much, and by 11:00, i was starting to feel like s'hit. so we went to my friend's house, and i had a little nap on his couch while they made out for like 3 hours. then when she wanted to go home, she woke me up and i walked her home. needless to say, i'm not feeling so well this morning.

well now i'm going to go shower, and then hang out with my lady friends, since everyone else chose work over friends for the whole year.

how's that. I don't know of any punk "musicians" coming out of Berklee, Julliard, UNT, UT, or USC.
The marketable punk music that actually has some feel of musicality is usually written in a studio under supervision of someone who has an actual music degree.
That's why all studio music sounds relatively decent, cause the musicians didn't write it.

Man, don't worry. Stars next to your name do not mean a thing. People will not respect you because you have stars. If you tend to post good, and are helpful you will have Imaginary rep (which is better than real rep anyday)

I remember when MX user Blindwriting gave me "imaginary rep" forrecording some 19/16 for him. It was a helpful to him, so thats all that matters. Once we take awayall the fancy stuff (Avatars, stars, user titles etc.) we are still stuck with one thing, A user on the board who has a problem that hopefully we can help him with....

i agree with faith. alot of people on these boards have rep, when really, they shouldn't. and the sad thing is that the people who don't deserve it can give it away to other people who don't deserve it (i know it takes alot from these people to add up, but it's still happening). i don't even want rep, never mind stars, because i know that i don't deserve any of it, and i don't want to kid myself into thinking i'm someone who helps someone out in every post. and fortunately, i don't have an e-dick that would triple in size for each tiny star under my username.

anyways, i hung out with 2 of my lady friends today, and i realized that i've kinda become the third "girl" of the group. i always hang out with them because everyone else works on weekends, and it's gotten to the point where they can talk about their menstrual cycle, bras, underwear, etc. with me. where normally they wouldn't talk about things like that to males. kind of weird. thank god i'm still straight....

i swear, i'm straight...

^ Awsome man.

Well I just got back from system which so freaking awsome. The crowd was so into it and system was just awsome in general. They played a lot of mezmerize, a couple songs off the new ablum that isn't out yet, a bunch of toxicity, war, suger, suite pee, and a couple others off their first album , and one or too off steal this album. On almost all the songs the crowd sang along with part and there was just so much energy it was crazy.
In bounce, daron told everyone to jump so the whole building jumped at the same time. The mosh was absoloutly crazy through out and during that part it was just peer madness.
It was definitly one of the better concerts that I have been too. The only bad part was that they didn't come back out for an encore, that sucked so much.
So how was everyone elses night.

Jezen
09-18-2005, 02:16 AM

Drum Phil
09-18-2005, 12:34 PM
I cant hang it at the moment because its not on a stand, its mounted on the bass drum so if i extend the boom enough it covers the floor tom. And the wingnut its pretty tight to cut out some of the overtones.

Hahaha I would have tried that too but my friends and I were up in the blues. I saw so many people that got totally taken down by a couple bouncers when they rushed the floor, that was pretty damn funny. Ya the bassist kept doing it to get him to come out constently, probally to piss him off too.

man im freaking out about the concert...i havent been to alot of concerts but i dont think ill ever find one as good as that...john dolmayan (sp) was doing awesome, i didnt catch a single mistake....mars volta and hella kind of disapointed me
hella was just basically a bigass drum solo..and mars volta had crappy sound quality so i couldnt enjoy them, lol

rockindrummer
09-18-2005, 02:16 PM
^Ya but every concert is like that. The sound quality just gets better as it gets closer to the headliner. Hella sounded really bad, the drum solo for the whole time didn't help either. Mars Volta sounded a bit better but system sounded the best.

I didn't see a mistake from any of them really. My friend has a video on his computer of the pyshco live and dolmayan messes up so badly it is actaully really funny.

Suite pee was such an awsome song. It was sweet at the part were he yells ****er every one did that so loud it was awsome. I agree with you man, that was the best concert I have seen.

rockindrummer, that's where i got my avatar (and user title) from. i felt bad for having it, since i wasn't the one who posted the comic, so i changed my avatar to the cow face. but then, due to popular demand, i changed it back.

seafroggys, was it you who posted it first? if so, i'll give you credit if anyone ever comments on it haha.

anyways, today i went with my lady friends into the city so one of them could buy a camera. she got one of those really professional looking ones with the big lenses coming out the front, put her back a good $300. but she really wanted one, and she was expecting to pay alot more than that. the guy who sold it to her was really cool, too. he was like "everyone nowadays wants a f'ucking digital camera, but these cameras f'ucking kick a'ss!!! look at this one, it feels like a f'ucking brick. it's so solid." then he looks over at some guy in tight emo pants holding a digital camera and he goes "pansy a'ss." it was so funny. then we came home and she took pictures for a while. it was actually not that bad.

and i got freezies, they were 12 cents for a pack of 30 little freezies. i bought 4 packs, i figured it'd last me a while.

i don't think this needs a thread so i'll ask it here:
would a simple voice recorder be good for recording myself drumming? i don't want to spend alot, nowhere past $50. i saw this one (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=TCM200DV&Dept=pa&CategoryName=pa_VoiceRecorders_StandardCassette) today in the city and i was thinking about picking it up, but all the employees were busy so i couldn't ask about recording drums.

we're not worried ;) haha

Dude, I'm so freakin excited about our show this tuesday. It's our second show as a full band (not counting Battle of the Bands or Talent Show at school, as we played a very different less talented style lol and had a different singer. Plus it was at school), and our first at the KC-Famous EL TORREON, whoo!

ugh. I work tomorrow from 11AM to 7PM and then we're having practice tuesday at 3PM, loading our stuff up and leaving for El Torreon at about 5:30 to get there around 6. ****s yeah.
We THINK we go on first (7 or 7:30 depends when it actually starts, doors at 7), so that way we'll have plenty of time to setup, move stuff around and screw around for a bit.

actually my friend left because he was sick, and i didn't want to sit through an 80 minute spare and a science class that i can't pay attention to, all on my own. after the teacher's done rambling for half an hour, i just ask him what she was talking about, and he gives it to me plain and simple in a sentence or two.

well before, i talked about a rant i did about the whole "prince harry nazi costume" thing. well i got it back today, and i got 9/10 (and a scratch n' sniff sticker) on it. i may type it out later if anyone's interested. (by the way, the sticker i got smells like flowers)

Well, I'm gonna post what I did in my drumming world today since posting these seems to make me less sleepy. I went to jazz band and for the second time got to play the set and now I can accually play it pretty good, I just need to play my hihat foot harder and develop independence with my left hand(which I have on my snare that one is just too tight and I'm not used to playing that kit). I haven't played my set in like 3 days because after my show I still didn't set it up from being so tired... I miss my kit but I'm gonna try my cymbal setup a little different, I'm going to play it like how I used to play it, instead of the china being opposite the crash the ride will be and the china will be right over the floor tom mounted flat

haha there was a fly that kept landing on my arm, so after like 10 minutes i got up and got the flyswatter, and it never came back.

well about the girl, i've talked to her alot over the internet, and at school for like 20 seconds at a time inbetween classes, and the occasional party, but we've never really hung out or anything, and i don't want to come off as sounding really into her, but i don't want to come off as sounding like she's my last resort either. you know? it's tough.

get to be good friends with her and ask to go as friends, not a date or anything. still take her out and stuff, but make sure its clear it isnt a date (well, unless you find that you really like her).

well i asked her, and then she reminded me that she told me last week that she's going with her friend to his in b.c. i completely forgot she told me about that.

but she told me she really wanted to go to the one in town, etc. and then we made plans to hang out this weekend. who knows, maybe my manly charm will persuade her into going with me? :naughty:

well i'm gonna go make supper, since my mom just called and said she won't be home until 8.

This deserves it's own post.
I've been meaning to post this here for awhile, and while they're probably not very well known or popular here it has to be said.

One of my favorite bands since I heard about them 3 years ago has broken up. They started in the "nu metal" era and were a 'nu metal' band at first, and then as they went through the years shed that part and just became a musical powerhouse for sure.
Great lyrics, the drummer was phenomenal (and severely underrated), everything about this band was awesome.
Was.

40 Below Summer, who I listened to almost every single day through my high school years, has officially broken up (sort of).
Guitarist Jordan left earlier this year, as did Carlos (drummer), both founding members. This left the group with Max (singer) and Joey (guitar) as the only 2 founding members left out of 5.

They were working on a new CD, but decided to call it quits as 40 BELOW SUMMER, with 2/5 left they were a totally different band.
Saturday they played their last show under the name, playing songs they haven't played in 3+ years.

The remaining 3 are continuing on with a new drummer and guitarist under the new name BLACK MARKET HERO.

Just felt like saying, RIP 40 Below Summer.

You guys know who i'm seeing in concert this Thursday?
**** straight
Roy Haynes...
could whip any of these metal bitches asses. He's 73 and still on the top of his game... truly a man to commemorate.

Also, our theatre is bringing in a ton of powerhouses this year.

Wynton Marsalis will be coming back again. Chick Corea is coming, and John Scofield, and Al green. Just in this month. I can't wait.

Never-the-less, my friend owns a Rodeo, it's a mech. right? It's always preformed very effectively for him, I've never seen it go down, and very easy to maintain. It's a very solidly built marker. Not that complex being it a sear tripper.

guns are bad, mmkay?

i used to work at a gun club, worst job ever. either you loaded the discs and got clay powder in your face (which actually hurt worse than the biggest sunburn you can get on your face) or you press the button when they say "pull" and get big cloud of gunpowder in your face (which also burned), plus a sunburn from being in the sun all day.

oh man, one time i was pulling (pressing button, and keeping score) and it was really cold and raining out, so they gave us this box to keep the score cards in while i was marking it down. they brought me some hot chocolate to keep warm, so i kept it in the box next to the scorecard. they get through like 7 or 8 of the 10 rounds, and then this huge gust of wind comes and jolts my box. i grab onto it so as not to let the card fall out and get wet, but my hot chocolate spills on it, and all my pencil marks just fade away. i had to stop them and tell them they were going to have to redo their previous rounds, which meant they had to stay out in the cold for another 15 minutes. they were pissed.

man i hated that job.

here, i typed out my "prince harry" rant. (i've made a few corrections since i handed it in, since she gave us 5 minutes and i had alot to say, i just rushed through it)

"This whole argument is completely idiotic. A man wore a costume to a costume party, simple as that. I think we are all aware that Harry doesn't line Jews up and shoot them one by one. So with that knowledge, I find it impossible to accuse someone of sharing their beliefs with a costume. Does his brother, dressed as a lion, share the instinct to attack anything that moves with his razor-sharp claws? No, because infact, he is not a lion. Sure, if Harry came to the party with dead jews in the trunk of his car, the situation would be something worth spending all the time that the dips'hit media put into a person's (yes, he is still a person, much like you or I) armband. If his brother wants to be a little p'ussy and wear lion suits, let him be a p'ussy. If Harry wants to wear something that some may consider "offensive", let him. Because anyone who gets offended by a f'ucking costume is either an old jewish person who b'itches about the holocaust at every chance they get, but wont put it in their past, or they're some rich news reporter p'ussy who won't cover real news like world hunger or the slaughtering of innocent citizens in Iraq."

So anyway, I was in the local shop again today. While I picked up a pair of free sticks I browsed around like I always do.

A few things I tried out:

A Mountain Rhythm Congo (I think it was) - it's a hand percussion instrument, so fun to play, when you play the center with the palm of your hand it gives a really low bass sound, and the sides have a higher pitch sound with a lot of ring. This was my favorite of all the hand percussion.

Bosphorus Trash Crash - this mother was a big 20" harsh crash, sounded so good, really warped cymbal though, not even or smooth at all, which added a lot to its sound. Looked like a Stanton Moore signature cymbal, it had his name printed on the bottom. Really liked it for a raw crash cymbal, but it was priced at something like $360 CDN, way to much for me.

Neil Peart 19" China - I love this cymbal, it's the one with the big edge on it, which I found gave it way more wash over the 20" model with a very small flange edge. I'm thinking about getting this one maybe, priced at $180 CDN.

Wuhan 17" crash - now I don't know if this was the "S" series, or their Traditional line, but either way, this baby had so much trash it was unbelievable. It looked very similar to an A series crash, that's why I wasn't expecting the sound that came out of it. I would say it was more on the thicker side of a thin weighed cymbal, but couldn't be more than medium thin. It sounded however like an 18" or 19" trash crash china mother. I would love this thing just for a sweet wild cymbal sound, I wonder what the 18" would sound like.

Paiste 2002 18" Full crash - this cymbal was my favorite out of everything. I wanted to walk away with it today. It was really werid though, I've never seen lathing like the kind on this one. It seemed like it was lathed with the thinnest micro point diamond or something, very small grain texturized all over the cymbal excluding the bell, I can't even explain it. The sound though, so full, they were correct when calling it that. Full, glassy, bright, high, but all very smooth because it was a thin or medium thin. I read retail 3 something for the price, I hope that isn't true, I didn't ask though, so I'm not totally sure. I'm going to find out next time.

^That sounds fun.
Much better than the day I had.

First of all, I walked out the house, and closed the door (With the lock on), then realised I'd left my keys inside. I dropped everything I was carrying and rooted around in my bag for them, but to no avail, So I had to leavce (Otherwise I would have missed the bus).

Then I got to finally play the drums in my music class. Since I am really quite shy, I was a little *embarrassed (despit being behind a huge curtain) as there was someone else in the room with me.
However, today was the first day I've ever tried the Tama 'Iron Cobra' Pedal, and I loved it. It was really light and smooth and I could actually play with my shoes on!

So, the rest of the day winds by, with several enbarrasing things in some classes.
I get home, and then remember I forgot my keys, so I had to run across a park to my friends house to get the spare set. It turned out she didn't have the spare set, so I had to wait until my parents got back.

Not as bad as I made it out to be at the begining of the post, but still pretty crap.
