billdrum- what kind of stuff are oyu playing with the band?

The stuff he writes is very Eagles/Poco influenced, kind of light rock I guess. He's got about 12 originals that we've learned and more on the way. He's pretty serious, has an agent in Nashville pushing his songs with major artists. We're looking to play in the Missouri/Illinois/Iowa areas adding some covers in to fill out the sets.

Jomofo

I like the Eagles. Hotel California (but of course) is one of my all time favourites.

well i just bought a keyboard for $50, i was amazed to find a decent one for under $100 at a pawn shop. this one has more than i even wanted for a keyboard. now i can start practicing piano without waiting for everyone else to leave the house and cutting into my drumming time. now i can plug in at night, turn the volume down (or even use earphones) and it's got like 50 drum beats to play along with.

and my friend bought some drums too, which is cool.

Jomofo

I want to learn piano really bad. It's such a useful instrument to know. I was considering picking up a keyboard at a pawn shop as well, but I couldn't find anything decent.

Poco was around in the 70's mostly I think. One or two members of the Eagles came out of that band. They had a couple of hits, but were largely under the radar.

Surely we've got some paintballers here! I just got my notice of our Fall "war" this October-two teams of 35-40 people each, daylong event with 5 different war games on 90 wooded acres (and we use all of it!). We do this every Spring and Fall.

Wooo, yeah! It ranks up there with drumming, when I am actually able to go though.

I missed my fields scenario this year. I was at the lsat two, they're so halairous and fun.

I would consider myself more of a tournament player though.

Someone got banned becuase there friend is an idiot and he cant make a new name becuase it gets messed up. He wants his old name Trilobite unbanned and his name D41LYBR34Dm4n removed. He didnt do anything bad and I think that he should be unbanned not that I know much about him.

If you mean "Civil War", then yes!

You haven't played paintball until you've had a Civil War.

billdrum
09-07-2005, 10:49 PM
Two teams face off 100 feet apart, each person gets one paintball in their gun. At the signal, everyone fires their one paintball. You can turn or duck, but you can't move from your position. Anyone hit is out. Move 25 feet closer, same process. Then 25 feet closer, repeat, etc. until one team is eliminated. Pretty scary when you get close in! That's our British March Of Death.

Plan B.
09-07-2005, 11:06 PM
Haha yeah!

We only do it with teams of like 10 each though.

.
our vocalist is a ferrety type of person...he constantly has to be looking through my stuff..moving something..playing with something....band is constantly f-ing around on my drums when i tell them not too..they constantly tell me how to drum to songs i made from scratch..they constantly start playing bass or guitar whenever i try to talk..or drums if im not constantly on them, and when they do hear me they completely blow it off, vocalist annoys me, bassist is too outgoing and has that "im better than you" type of thing going on..and i can live with the guitarist, hes a good guy

Dude that's like the same thing with my band. Our singer/ guitarist is a douche and never wants to jam. He can't sit still and always want to play drums. And instead of telling us that he is unhappy with the band, which i'm sure of, he just says ya sure fine and agrees with us but he doesn't do it all to convincingly.
My bassist is cool and I always hang out with him so he's cool and nothings wrong wit him.
My other guitarist is a cool guy too. At times he can be annoying cause he doesn't agree with you when you get into an argument and we both know he is wrong. He just digs a deeper hole and then when he has been proved wrong he just goes eh w/e who knows, or somthing along those lines. I don't really mind that but the one thing that pisses me off so much is that I say not to play my drums and he goes I know I know I won't, then goes into my room and starts playing. Like wtf dude I just said not too and then he tries to make up some reason why it doesn't matter if he plays but that never works to well. The only thing bad about him is that he doesn't respect my stuff, most of the time that is. Which is very annoying. I don't really have a problem with him though because we have been friends for a really long time and we have started to jam, well when we do, at the bassist house who got a really crappy set.

So how was everyones day? Mine was boring as hell, we didn't do anything in anyclass and tomorrow is going to be the same thing.

Jomofo
09-07-2005, 11:11 PM
My day was pretty good. My schedule is as follows:
Drama, Film Studies, Biology, English.
It's pretty easy. Bio is kinda tough though...only because the teachers a mess. She just doesn't seem to know her stuff very well...and we kinda got thrown into the material too quickly. Probably won't be so bad as we get further into the year though.

rockindrummer

09-07-2005, 11:33 PM
I wish I could have fit band in. I'm grade eleven right now, and the way they schedule band at my school is absolutely retarded. I won't even attempt to explain it.

Film studies is pretty intersting, Jim. The same guy that teaches my drama class teaches that class. It's basically the study of means of expressing ideas through film (obviously), including picture and sound. So far it's pretty cool; can't complain about a class where I get to watch movies! We're watching Raiders of the Lost Arc right now. :thumb:

Goodnight RD.

It's never really fun to leave on bitter terms, styler, but if that's how it goes, then that's how it goes. I'd say try to keep in touch with the guitar player if hes a good guy. Your band doesn't HAVE to sacrifice your technique. It's always fun and good for your drumming to have some people to jam with.

Well, last night must have been quite a sight;

I was sitting in a room, doing something on a computer, when Someone came in and then went away again. I, now being distracted, looked up to the ceiling and saw 5 HUGE scary bugs. I procedded to jump up and grab a towel to squish them with. This method proved ineffective, as when I was hitting them, they were just being stunned and lying, as if dead, on the floor. Then if I went back to prod them, thould would get up and resume their scaryness.
Then I got a broom that I had used during one of the bands' shows and rounded two of the out of the door.
I had no other option left, than to kill the remainding three, and then went to bed.
----
This morning I came back into the room, and saw another one flying around everywhere.

I looked so silly, crouched in a corner fighting off these insects with a broom....

I've been re-uploading and editing songs for the past 4 hours lol

I messed with the bass EQ on the actual tape recorder and got the bass to come out sounding much better than it did before, same for guitar.
Currently trying to cut down on some fuzzy noise on our show-ender song lol

http://www.myspace.com/lufthansaheist

"Hold it Down" and "No Donnie" (Evergreen Terrace cover, which the band themselves enjoyed! lol) are "remastered" lol, currently re-mastering Punchout.
*Edit, and I think I'm just about done with it, JUST ABOUT lol*

I'm not too* sure but I think a a guy tried to ask me out today. It was really noisy, so I'm not all that sure what he said. At first it sounded like 'Will you be the drummer in my band?'. He asked again, but I still didn't hear him, and the last word didn't sound like 'band', more like 'girlfriend'. Then he said ' It dosn't matter, I'll ask you at lunch'.

This guy is notorious for asking girls out a lot. So I spent my lunch-time hiding from him. However, I think I may be blowing this out of proportion.

Ugh, what possesed him to go and do that?

man, i was making some sandwiches last night for my lunch, and i dropped the knife by accident when i went to open the fridge... the tip of the knife caught my foot just to the side of my "ring" toe. there was a little bead of blood, but no more than that. and let me tell you, it friggin' hurts.

well tomorrow night, my friend (lives about 20 feet from my house) 's mom is having a block party, and coincidentally i'm planning on getting quite drunk. i don't really want to go though, because there's a huge possibility of my parents being there, and i really don't want my parents to see me drunk. it's one thing for me to call them when i'm drunk to tell them where i am, but i have this big "fear" that they'll be really disappointed if they see me drunk. oh well, drunk is drunk. and my friend's neighbor is smokin' hot, she should be there, most likely drunk.

well i'm going to go play drums for a while, since i had a nap when i came home, i'm completely exhausted. i couldn't pay attention at all today, and all of my teachers told me it would be better if i just went home. unfortunately i didn't want to walk home by myself, so i stayed and slept in class.

i despise people dressing up dogs. my neighbor wouldn't let her dog go out to piss/s'hit if it didn't have it's little booties and scarf on, IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER. and when she takes it out for walks, a whole different story. sweater, scarf, hat, and full leg booties. :amaze:

and it gets worse. she has multiple outfits for the dog, and occasionally she'll match what she's wearing with what the dog's wearing. oh do i laugh when i see that.

so i was thinking... yesterday my friend wanted me to test out the drums before he bought them, so i played some stuff i usually play, and the guy that works there (big jazz drummer) asked me what time sig i was playing. i told him it was in 4/4, and he didn't believe me. i broke some of what i was playing down to him, and he refused to say it was in 4/4. he would say it was in 7/8 followed by 9/8, etc. when i told him it was just simple phrasing. and i considered it to be in 4/4. then he told me that drummers nowadays are too obsessed with making drums "mathematical" that they've forgotten the meaning of drums: to lay down a simple rhythm. what's your guys' opinion on that? (for the record, i wasn't playing anything complicated really, just fairly simple rock beats)

ive decided i wanna teach young kids drumming when im older, i taught my first lesson today to a 10 year old (im 16) cuz my drum teacher was having a conversation with his dad and he thought it would be educational for me.
i taught him for like an hour and a half cuz my teacher thought i was doing a good job and everything i was saying and explaining stuck to the kid like glue..was the koolest feeling when he finally mastered a basic 8th note, lol.

Today, First two periods were the worst. Bloody pervy Biology teacher. I'm not joking, he had an affair with a pupil a couple of years back and is now married to her.
Anyway, I spilt chlorophyll on the workbench; which turned the bench green, then broke a pipette tube when I dropped it on the floor.
However some nice, but scary, guy helped me pick it up.

Apart from those two minor incidents, and some other thing that happened my day has been good.

And that guy was off school today, thankfully...

I guarantee you haven't heard anything like us

I would LOVE to take you up on that, and I'm not kidding at all.
Because I've listened to stuff most people on here haven't heard anything like (other than ripoffs that came out after the band)
HORSE the Band, Tub Ring, BearVSShark, etc (BVS aren't AS original but yeah)

For real.
I'd practically put money I could find a band that sounds similar to yours.

So anyways, I bought Volume 1 of Family Guy the other day (volumes 1/2), and I've been watching them practically all week. Finally on the last 3 episodes, but **** that show is hilarious. (623 minutes of Family Guy or something like that)
Next week I'll be buying Volume 2!

Whoo.

The new Burnout game comes out in about a week, for PS2 and PSP. Gettin the PSP one first (different game on each system), just to have a new cool game to play on it lol

my day yesterday consisted of sleeping until 5, getting on the computer, watching part of the movie "Sahara" (What I saw was pretty good, maybe about 20 minutes left when I stopped) and had to go to work (overnight)

bastards got me to work overnight this week, but that's ok, it'll only be every other week or so until they hire someone to do it permanently.
Plus the manager last night/tonight is pretty hot, so yeah ;) lol
Sucks is I'm the only crew they could get for this weekend, making 2 people with me and the manager, running the entire store (no lobby). Not too bad, we usually have 3 on overnights, but legally we HAVE to have 3 for security reasons, so if we get robbed **** it.

Anyone wants to ever rob a McDonalds, tonight's your prime chance. Between midnight and 4:30 AM (when we're the only ones for sure), Smithville MO McDonalds ;)

Yeah whenever the opposing team kicks off we play blast notes into our instruments to try to mess them up. Are you a freshman?
No, I'm a sophomore.
First performance this year went BRILLIANTLY. The band director said it was the best first show he had seen yet. The music was spot-on and the marching was hellah good. It was tons of fun  To give you an idea of how hardcore it was, take a look at this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v623/fuzzydrummer/broken1.jpg

It shattered inside the grip tape (I had wrapped it with extra tape before the football game so this wouldn't happen!) and the tape snapped while I was moshing/playing stand music with the rest of drumline off of the field. Wicked sick.

He had a plastic leg brace which was obviously used as a weapon cos he could walk perfectly... Things like this make me sick.

I live just out side london so nothing surprises me any more in crime.

When i went to the old tower records, and i caught some black dude with his hand in my pocket. So i asked him to take it out, and he told me that i was racest as i was accusing him of being a theif just due to him being black. Rite, so it had nothing to do with his hand in my pocket.

I haven't heard it yet, considering it's not OUT yet. :P

However I have heard the song they released from Rob Flynn's team, it was pretty good. Had Howard from KSE on vocals with Rob, and it was pretty awesome as far as lyrics go. The music was decent.

Arcturus:
First off, nice playing. The bass player's amazing, how long has he been playing? Get a guitarist and possibly a singer and you've got a great thing going for sure.

The first obvious comparison is Primus, simply for the bass styling.
But overall musically, although I mentioned them in the previous thread, you guys have a sound pretty close to Tub Ring (at times...they change styles very frequently)

http://www.myspace.com/tubring
Those are all from their newer CD, of those listen to "Sharpening the Sticks" and "Promise Keeper"

You guys sound more like their old CD, "Fermi Paradox" which I can't find anything online yet.

http://www.tubring.com/music/Tub%20Ring%20-%20Invalid.mp3
There, only song I could find from Fermi lol, and a very badass song.

Given time I could probably find someone else but they hit my mind immediately, and with Pizza coming I don't feel like searching through obscure bands lol
Good stuff though.

Alright, I asked a girl to homecoming today in a fairly clever way:

Before she got to school in the morning, I put a note in her locker that said (in collage, all of the notes were) "will you". The next note she found was 3rd period (our school has 9 periods a day). She has choir 3rd period, so I put a note that said "go to" in her choir folder, but our chior teacher was gone that day, so all thekids check in with our school secretary. Luckily, I had planned ahead and given another note to the secretrary to give to the girl (monika) when she checked, simply saying "monika, you ahve a message".

So that was the 2nd message she got. And then, 5th period, we both have English. So I taked to our English teacher a couple of days before, and he really wanted to help (he's an english teacher, a romantic/dreamy sort, possibly the favorite teacher in the school). He hands out a poem in class, but instead of giving her a poem, he slips from the bottom a piece of paper that said "homecoming with" on it.

And finally, at the end of the day, I walked down the hall with a t-shirt on that said, in big letters, "ME?" It was pretty sweet, especially because the ENTIRE school knew except for her. All day everyone was coming up to me and asking how it was going (our school is small, 270 kids), but noone let on at all to her.
