about the pink paint, i had a whole room in "buzz lightyear green" with bright yellow carpet. (no, i wasn't 3 years old, it was half a year ago when i was in my old house) now imagine how tough it was to sleep with that paint everywhere.

Conaways are great! Check out my entry in the play-along contest to hear them. Of course, its not the best recording, but it'll give you an idea. What's the matter, can't come up with 10 grand in a hurry?

Actually, no. It's an old Ludwig standard that I stripped down, had the shell powdercoated, and added all new hardware to.

it's amazing the sound you can get out of old standard snare drums, hey? i absolutely love my snare drum: a stock peavey snare that i bought for $20, it sounds exactly how i want my main snare drum to sound.
Double Bass Jim

Very versatile too!
Win A Rabbit
09-05-2005, 11:49 PM
mine's very versatile. i was expecting to pay him $50-ish for it, but he's one of those kids that thinks piccolo snares tuned ridiculously high are the only good sounding snare drums, so he had this one laying around. he was going to give it to me, but i would have felt bad taking it for free, so i offered him $20.
it's very slow tonight on the forums. we should liven it up. does anyone have any idea (or plans) when the next drum-off is? i think i'm going to move my computer downstairs sometime soon for easier recording, but the rest of my family wouldn't want it down there for too long.

Dun dun!!!
It's currently 3AM here. Still adjusting to non-overnight hours, been up since 2 (when I woke up on overnights) so I think I'm gonna pull a 24-hour'er, go to bed 'tomorrow night' at 2AM (Aka 23 hours from now) like I did when I closed all the time (which I'm doing now)
AHH
I'm very hungry though.
And the nearest 24 hour store is far down the street (10 minute drive at least) or quik trip (limited selection, slightly higher prices) or wait about 3 hours.

Heh..
I see many students here have no relized the power of gradual studying. It's like practicing drums.. you get much better, much faster doign a lil every day. Rather then a big chunk at once every so often.
Of course.. I like sleep too. I also like to get A's and people go "Wow I was up all night, how did you get an A?" "Well I studied gradually in advance and got a good nights sleep."
Haha

09-06-2005, 03:55 AM
Josiah you're so good at everything!
How do you do it, what's your secret?!
Josiah
09-06-2005, 04:08 AM
Well.. not everything! HAHa I can't sing worth a lick, and if you asked me who the 32nd president was I'd have to turn to google!
But with most things it comes down to one word:
Application!
Long ago my parents taught me that I could do anything I set my mind too. And you know what? It's totally true.
Most people are held back by lazyness. Everyone has the potentional do great things. Many simply lack the motivation, or knowledge that this is true. Also many people have not had the best parents to teach them how to be positive.
This is one reason I love working with kids. It's truly amazing how a life can change when you show them that they can do so many things they thought they couldn't.
Why are there 22 yr old millionaires who started from scratch? Cause they applied themselves. Long ago people had nothing, they had to work for or make everything and anything they wantted.
Now everyone is lazy as all can be. Rare is it I find a student who is willing to put even 15 mins a day into dedicated practice. Yet it's no trouble to find someone who feels obligated to spend an hour trying to beat a level of a game, or can't miss their favorite TV show.

well it's confirmed: my english class is probably one of the most retarded classes in history. there was a big argument today on whether "a tree growing naturally in a forest" is a form of technology. and to make it worse, the teacher wrote the definition of technology that she wanted us to use: "a tool designed by and used to help man" so that went on for 10 minutes until i said "first, a tree is not designed by man. second, trees are not used to help man." at which point, everyone paused for a while, and then simultaneously went "aaaaaahhhhhh" except for one girl who said that god designed trees. i looked at her, was about to say something, but before i could open my mouth everyone laughed at her.
so that's my little story for the day.
oh, and i learned that there is a limit of no more than 3 rodent hairs per 100 grams of chocolate, and no more than 60 insect fragments per 25 grams of coffee. yum...
RushHourSoul

we use wood on the trees (which can be argued) but the fact still remains: we did not design trees to better ourselves.
now saying "manufaturing of trees is technology" is correct, but "trees are technology" is completely idiotic.

well the movie farenheit 911 was pretty much one big propaganda commercial against george bush/american media's propaganda. things like giving us reasons of "wmd's" so that we could invade afghanistan, and slowly move to iraq with no explanation, and no logical reason (referring to their original plans of invasion) why even just one american soldier should be killing innocent citizens of iraq, and why we can't pull out now, etc.

i'm real bored, so i guess i'll tell everyone here another story of mine today.
well one of my lady friends (not my girlfriend) was at my house the other day, watching tv on my bed (i was making some kd) so anyways, we eventually go to her house and everything, then i come home that night and find her "lady pills" next to my bed. being the nice friend i am, i kept them in my pocket all the next day because i thought i'd be seeing her, but i didn't. so i brought them to school today. she came at lunch and i slipped them to her privately, so no questions were needed from anyone else. she gave me a big hug and said i saved her because she has no money to buy new pills right now  so that made me feel good.
any "lady pill" stories for any of you?

You can get a free recording program from the internet. Ask DBJ for a link to Audacity. Other than that, all you need is a mic. And you can pick a cheep one up at a computer store for like ten dollars.

Hmm..I don't like school. I hate waking up early and I find all the classes dreadfully boring. The only good thing about it is seeing friends everyday. And band I suppose. Its the only class I actually like.
Win A Rabbit
09-07-2005, 12:23 AM
i dislike the immense lack of sleep i get, and my classes are generally designed for complete retards. i'm actually quite smart, but i never cared enough to try in school, so now i have to sit through a grade 12 english class where the teacher is explaining how to break a sentence into quotation marks for 80 minutes. (yes, simple sentences like "Hello," said Mr. Johnson, "how are you?" )
but i do see my friends almost all day, and i have an 80 minute spare with one of my bandmates. plus it's a great way to meet new people and such.
overall, i'd say that disliking school wins by 60/40 for me.

recording didn't go so well lol
The D.I. from the bass was messed up, so we're gonna mic him next time, and gonna change which mic used on the guitar cause that one sucks lol
They came out ok with a bit of tweaking. The bass is pretty low since we had to turn it down a lot to avoid the jacked up sound it made lol
We WILL be re-recording on tuesday next week, starting with an 11AM practice until roughly 5PM when we will be going to the Madball/Walls of Jericho show lol
http://www.myspace.com/lufthansaheist
"Hold it Down" and "Punchout" are new versions, the other two are live.
(The sound snippet from the beginning of Hold it Down is from Goodfellas, Pesci)
So those will all remain as-is for now until next week. Hold it Down is a brand new song, as is another untitled song (called "the pretty song") that came out weird on these recordings.
:D

EDIT: aslo, every like, 3rd word out of my english teachers mouth was "super". "were gonna use these a super lot for a little. then not a super lot, then a super lot again." and half of my history class was the teacher talking about a trip he took to the carabean(sp) and he got an empty cuban cigar box that he put sand and stuff in, and it got distroyed by customs. it was completely un-related to anything we were doing. and he likes to speek in the third person a lot.

So today at lunch we were talking about music and some of my friends and I were talking about ska bands and stuff. So then some other kids aer all "Ska sucks" so thats where the argument started. So we were telling them about some good ska bands that would change they way they think about ska (mainly Streetlight Manifesto) and we were also tlking about which streetlights' drummer (best ska drummer ever). So then they were talking about hey slipknots joey jordinson is the craziest awesomest drummer ever. So the argument went on like that for a while. So to give a point to my long post, is anybody else tired of ignorant poeple who say there music is the best and say that your music sucks? and to mkae sure nobody thinks i'm a hypocrit, I did not say that metal sucked or anything like that, the worst I said was that joey is a little overrated.

^^ Type in paragraphs next time, that way the person whos reading it feels like they are getting some where.
Don't even bother with arguements like that. That is like the story of every single stereo typical greasy teenage music freak in America and more devloped parts of the world.
You have to take a Jewish appraoch to these things and just realize not everyone is going to like your opinions so stop trying to make people like them and keep to yourself. Just laugh at them cause their music sucks to you and leave them alone unless they instigate.
Ska is good stuff though, its good to see atleast one other person on mxdp likes it. You ever heard of the Skoidats? They have a pretty good drummer for a ska band too.

for one..my bassist is as a$$..its his way or the high way..he constantly wants to write songs when we suck at all our old ones...our vocalist cant sing, our guitar player is amazing, hes the only person i can stand.
our vocalist is a ferrety type of person...he constantly has to be looking through my stuff..moving something..playing with something....band is constantly f-ing around on my drums when i tell them not too..they constantly tell me how to drum to songs i made from scratch..they constantly start playing bass or guitar whenever i try to talk..or drums if im not constantly on them, and when they do hear me they completely blow it off, vocalist annoys me, bassist is too outgoing and has that "im better than you" type of thing going on..and i can live with the guitarist, hes a good guy

We use the whole space for the big capture the flag game and different sections of it for other battles.

Band drama is the terrible. Our bass player recently came back to our band begging for a position because the band he left us for broke up. It would have been easier if he didn't go out burning bridges left and right, but oh well. He apologized and stuff, so it's good now.
Anyway, just tell him that the band is much to hard to practice with, and it's not worth all the stress because there is no real pay off.

It's private property with a small lake and a cabin. You can run across deer there and small creatures. I usually go out the night before and stay over, beer, cookout, etc. It's alot of fun.

meh its not like i dont enjoy playing with them we do actually play, its the abuse i suppose, a drummer can only take so much :P and i wanna keep my technique, so i cant compromise it for a high school band.
i cant even remember the last time i went camping (never been) or had a cookout (last summer) or been drunk in any way...(a long long time ago..)

I've been without a band for going on 9 months now, longest stretch in years. I'm picky about who I play with and it's really hard sometimes finding the right mix of personalities and musicianship. I'm working with a St. Louis area singer/songwriter on putting something together, but we haven't found the right guitarist yet.

Me too! We (the singer, bass player and I) jammed last weekend with a really good player (and nice guy too). It went really well and he picked up the originals quickly. I'm just not sure if he's able to make the commitment. It's still up in the air.

Thanks for the advice man. I will type in paragraphs next time. And I should know better to even argue with those people about music and stuff, you never get anywhere.
I never have heard of the skoidats, I'll have to look them up. If you've never heard of streetlight you have to hear them, there drummer is awesome. Another band that I started to get into more is Big D and the Kids Table, I like their style, plus they remind me of one of our local ska bands.

that sounds like a sweet deal bill, i cant stand people who cant commit to anything, doesnt even have to be the band, just anything in general, if i cant trust them outside the band i cant trust them in it..lol

i am the same way, i told my freind i was going to help him work on the chasis of his car saturday at 10 in the morning.
im there and its 10:00 he isnt there. So i waited alittle longer by 10:20 i was pissed (short temper) i called him up and said "where are you"? he said, "at my house". i said "well why the *fill in with four letter word* did you tell me to be here, when your an *azzhole* and dont have the commonm courtesy to call, you know what man? you are a piece of *fill in with a four letter word*" then i hung up on him.
stuff like that will really piss me off...

^I agree. I have a small amount of patience for things like that. If you say you're going to do something at some time, do it, and at the time you said.. It happens with my friends alot, and it bugs me.
