You're kidding, you need another tom?
Hahahaha  No! Not at all! Four toms will be my limit for a few years. I've enough to handle. I was going to think about mics and a mixer, but the cases seem so logical. So what do you people think?

BAH!
WHY OH WHY MUST I PLAY MORE THAN ONE INSTRUMENT!
WHY!?
I hear ya. Play guitar as well. Got over £1000 worth of guitar gear and...*calculates*...just short of £1000 worth of drumkit related stuff, not including the running cost of picks and sticks. Think what kind of setup I could have for one or the other if I only played one...

Hi, Im eddie fisher, been drumming for arround 3 years, Currently studying electrical engineering with a side course of musical acoustics at Edinburgh Uni, been in two bands so far, both went ok-ish upto a point but found a large degree of artistic difference with guitarists wanting to go in directions i didnt like. Hobbies are drumming (obvoiusly), bongos, small amount of webdesign (www.fisherdrumweb.cjb.net) and music. Love a wide range of musical styles but concentrated in the alternative genre, none of this RnB or Dance, just not that interested. Love all things with guitar and strange time signatures. Currently using Sabian cymbals, i prefer them to Paiste. and currently my favourite drum lick is the 17/8 into to Trapped in the Wake of a Dream by Mudvayne and a lot of Tool stuff, excecially the hand percussion stuff in their weird intos etc.

I'm Kyle Kinney, I live in Monona Wisconsin and I'm 14 years old turning 15 in May. I'm a freshman in highschool and I play in a band called Lost Cause, I also do the screaming while playing. Kinda like Atreyu but the roles are reversed. I''ll have been playing for about 5 years as of July 20th. I also jam with my dad who plays guitar and my uncle who is also a guitar god. My idols in life are my uncle, John Bonham, Neil Peart, and Danny Carey.

I lovetakin pictures of stuff...but a lack of funds prevents us from even owning a digital camera :(
But if i see a good scene or somethin, i wont hesitate to take a picture. Im more into nature though...sort of touchy, but it just interest me more, and seems much more easier for candid shots rather then killing myself to get a setting just right, which is why im not much of a people photo person.

My name is Jeff. I live in Los Angeles. At the age of 43 I am living out a long lost desire to be a rock and roll drummer. When i was a young dawg like most of you i wanted to be a drummer first, a Formula 1 Driver second and a Fashion Photographer third. I settled for number 3!
For my birthday in December my fiancee' bought me my first drum kit. A Ludwig CS Custom Natural Birch. She knew I always had this unfulfilled dream. That's why I love her!
I just made my first upgrade with a purchase of two Zild Custom A crashes and I am still high! I have a long way to go and not as much time as you youngins to get there..
I like all music. I love Punk, I love Rock, I love Jazz. I saw Bonham and Moon play and a gazillion others in between and since...I've seen alot. I've heard alot.
This board is cool...it has really help me out....KEEP ON POSTIN :thumb:

$1,700 - Maton ECW80C Acoustic
$450 - Legend Les Paul copy
$210 - MT 2
$0 - inherited amp (Looking to upgrade soon with a Fender or Roland amp possibly (solid state because although tube is nice, it's also way too expensive and you have to be careful incase tubes blow (which also costs money)))
and that's just the guitar.. (plus some more expenses like leads, picks, capos, tuners, guitar stands.. etc. etc.)
Then the drums (not in order)..
$450 - my first drumkit, Ashton in red.. traded it in for drum bags
$1150 - Yamaha Stage Custom Standard
$130 - B8 Pro Ride second hand
$130 - old A Zildjian ride, 20"
$280 or something - UFiP 16" Rough Series
$320 or 360 or something - UFiP 18" Rough Series
$150 or 105 (I don't remember this crap..) - Basix Snare
a bunch of skins from attack, evans and remo. $400 or so
a BUNCH of drumsticks from Zildjian, Vater, Vic Firth, Pro Mark, Drumpower
and no name. (GO VIC FIRTH AND VATER! HURRAH HURRAH!)
$80 - Second hand Wuhan china (thanks much theflame85!)
$100 - crappy brass hi hats (can get them for $60 now)
$300-350 or so - Gibraltar double pedal.
$105 or so - Wuhan 10" splash
$120-60 - Tama stand
$30 - Powerbeat stand x2 (30 each)

Hi everyone!I'm Dan(18 years old) and i live in romania in a small town,Braila.I've been drumming for about 1 year.I use a Tama swingstar kit united with a no name kit so now it's a 8 pcs kit :3 toms, 2 floor toms,2 bass drums and a snare. The cymbals i use are various:16" crash,20"ride and 14"hats that came with the tama kit(they sound pretty good though,i love the sound of the crash), 16 Paiste 802 and a 10" paiste mini china(it's pretty old,you can't even read the logo anymore) and a Stagg 16" DH china. Guess i'm the only one here from Romania!:thumb:

They just started carrying Meinl at my local music store. They seem to be gaining popularity pretty quick. They had Stagg for a while, but never sold one of them. They eventually tried to liquidate them at 50% off the regular (not list) price, and still had not much luck. I tried a few out, and didn't like any of them. They don't carry Paiste around here though, I have to order anything I want from them online.

Id like to try there soundcaster series.
I haven't had the chance to really bang away at them, but just from messing around with the displays, they seem to be the company's answer to Zildjian A's, they even have a Soundcaster custom line just like A customs. I have really liked the Byzance cymbals I tried out. They have definitely sparked my interest, something none other than the big 3 have been able to do so far.
Double Bass Jim
03-02-2005, 05:15 PM
Yea thats probably what caught my attention. Im a huge fan of the reuglar A sound and the soundcasters do have a similar tone, the crash decay is what really makes them sound alike.

His cymbals had a strange sound on the creative control DVD.
-Obscurity-
03-03-2005, 11:55 PM
He said that he designed most of them for a quick "white noise" effect that would emulate the sounds of sampled cymbals, and would decay quickly as not to clutter his playing style. That is basically the exact opposite of what I look for in a cymbal sound. There is an older scene of him jamming with a fusion band on that dvd, and he is using some nicer sounding Zildjians.

Yo guys.
Good news: Got a new A custom 17" fast Crash and through college, my portfolio has been put on an agency shortlist. This agency deal with English TV channels and major record labels, meaning if someone needs a drummer, they ask the agency and go through the people and audition the ones they pick.
Meaning i could be on TOTP and CD:UK and in a successfull band on a major.
Seems realy far fetched, we shall see if anything comes of it, but ive been talking to my college director and he seems excited for me!
Bad news: i cant sell my cymbals!
Oh well.
Also, i get £1000 in october from some insurance thing my nan did for me or something odd, meaning new kit. Gonna save and go full out, just gotta choose :)
Im in a good mood but i dont feel too great.

Tomorrow I'm going to the Business Professionals of America Mass. State competition. I'm going for Basics of HTML(I'm thinking this one will be quite easy, as I managed to skim over last years, and it was really...basic...) and Extemporaneous Speech.
For those who don't know what Extemporaneous Speech is, it's basically where they ask you a question(in my case related to business) and you basically wing an answer. You don't know the question beforehand, and it can be ANYTHING related to business, being ethics, management, etc.
Business Professionals of America(BPA) is for Vocational students in Computer Technology courses, for anyone who's familiar with VICA and DECA, it's similar to those. Anyway, wish me luck, as last year when I went I took Basic Word Processing, getting a big fat ZERO because I forgot my study guide(which contains how memos, letters, etc are set up) which they let you take into the test(along with any books you want to have with you) and totally bombed. Though I scored fairly well on the open competitions(just walk into a room, grab a fill in the bubble style test, and start), but not high enough for any reckognition. I'm going for the gold this year.

Hi all! My name is Sheila and I live in Wisconsin. I guess I'm a "noob". I'm in my 30's and played drums for about 6 months to a year when I was 16, then nothing until my husband got me a set last spring. I'm busy working on the rudiments and stuff on my own. No band. Just me. I'm a mom and pretty busy all the time, but I practice at least an hour every day. It's great stress relief. Nice meeting you all!
(Hey, what's that "rep" thing?)
Der Meister
03-12-2005, 12:57 PM
Rep was a way of stopping spam as users could get positve or negatove rep for their posts, when you got alot of rep you got stars.
The probelm was many people abused it an needlesly repped their friends (everyone in the pit had stars) and it didn't stop spam and some say it caused eliteism.
Now Mods give out rep and when users have alot of positive Mod rep they can give rep.

Most of them are pretty simple, but I'm thinking some of the ballads, like Sanitarium or Fade to Black. Also, For Whom the Bell Tolls is quite simple.

My name is Hawx. I'm 19 and I'm the drummer of an emo/posthardcore style band called NOT in COLUMBIA from the north west of England. We recently won the north west battle of the bands. We have a demo out but it sounds mainly pop punk, check it out on our site (http://www.notincolumbia.com) or on our myspace account (http://www.myspace.com/notincolumbia). I've been playing drums for 11 years and I've only just gone out and bought my second kit (buying a new kit every few months doesnt make you good). I own a dark red 1986 Pearl Masters. I haven't got a job I just do the band at the moment (we have just been approached by Halo Guitars (http://www.haloguitars.com), they want to sponsor us but I'm the drummer so I won't get any free stuff) but I am wanting a full time job just to fund the band (I only recently left my job). I live with my mum dad and sister. We had a dog but like it died lol **** =| Erm I also like smoking (not drugs) and hanging out. I'm really into emo and hardcore music. And thats it =P =)) h.x
Hey, you live in singapore don't you? It seems kind of weird that water polo would be a major sport. Oh wait, is it in the olympics?
Anyway here in the US (or at least in my region) it's just a game the swim team plays for fun.
Yeah, I live in Singapore. And nope, water polo isn't really that major a sport here. I'm in junior college, and it's pretty much an unrecognized extra curricular activity, because we come in 4th out of 5 schools every year :upset: There's no swim team in my school here, so water polo's the next best thing

Well I guess I'm a latecomer to this thread, but whatever. I'm Tyson, and I'm from Manitoba, Canada. I've played drums since junior high (humble air-drumming and drum-roll beginnings), and I'm graduating this year. In the fall I'm going to university in either Saskatoon (at the U of Saskatchewan) or in Winnipeg (at the U of Manitoba). I'll be taking 4 or 5 years to get my B.A. in commerce (depending on if I take University 1 for my first year at university). In high school right now I'm in a class called Performing Arts, which is basically two guitarists, a bassist, a singer and me doing covers of songs, writing songs, etc, and then in the end going to Winnipeg to record a demo so we get more familiar with the process. I've been in several bands, cut a demo with one of them, but all of them have broken up, and Performing Arts is what I would call my band right now, as we have several shows lined up.
My interests and hobbies include drumming, songwriting, listening to music, hanging out with friends, partying, going to movies, going on trips, relaxing at the lake, and I guess I don't mind video games from time to time.

Yeah, I didn't place in either of my events. For E. Speech, I got this: "What can companies do to help prevent workplace violence" I came in 7th or 8th, I think, according to my advisor, and the notes on my speech that she got was my ending was a little short...that and when I'd look up to not read from my notes, I'd lose my place on the notes, and wouldh ave to take a few seconds finding it again, but whatever, I was the first person from my school to even try that event, so I guess that makes me feel better...Then with fundamentals of HTML, they had us like, basically create new web pages, and one of them recquired us to do forms, well, I don't know how to do forms(this was all to be done only in notepad, btw), so I tried, and managed to get like, input type bars, the kind where you type the title of a post or thread on here, but I also needed to get radio buttons, and reset and submit buttons and such, and I just didn't have enough time to mess around with that. On another note however, our website design team placed first(which I was supposed to be on, but that's another story) so that was good, because we're a tiny school compared to some others so to come in first in that, when some schools send in two teams sometimes, was pretty good. But I still ahd a fun weekend regardless...

Does anyone else find that the bass drum is a fair bit louder than the snare in Hells Kitchen (DT of course), especially near the end.
Maybe it's just because the bass drum has a big oomph to it and the snare is kinda deep.

Geez, now I feel like the old Fogie!!
My name is Rich and I'm from Warren, MI (North of Detroit) and I'm 40 (yikes!)
I played percussion from Junior High partway through college. Played marching band, concert band, pit orchestra, jazz band you name it.... Toured Europe with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp travelling international concert band and jazz band one summer, that was COOL! So I sold my set off halfway through college (a late 70's Slingerland metallic blue) cuz I was strapped for cash and didn't have time to play them.... Graduate, get a job, get married, have kids etc...... somewhere in the back of my mind I miss playing... not just the drum set but all percussion! Last year I joined the Warren Concert Band, a local community band that's been around for about 35 years now, god it feels good to play again, with a serious group!
Now my oldest son plays percussion too, in the middle school. He's pretty good if I do say so myself! About 2 months ago he gets "invited" to join the jazz band (and yes, it's by invite only) and his instructer calls me one day to say he's doing pretty good but will really needs a set at home to practice with (see the wheels turning  ), turns out all the other drummers in jazz band are 8th graders and will be graduating this year, there are no 7th graders and he's the only 6th grader invited to join so far, odds are somewhat good he may be the ONLY drummer next year in jazz band. So, the wheels are turning, his birthday is tomorrow and he will be surprised with a Pearl Export set (Dark wine/black hardware) and Meinl CMS cymbals, god I can't wait to set it up and surprise him, and then sit down and start showing him some moves....... :D :D :D :D :D
This is a great forum!!
Hi my name is Les. Dont feel alone...LOL....Im 39 and i too have run the gambit of the playing drums and percussion since 6th grade.... i have seven children and four of them are percussionists.....my basement(when we are all playing) is louder than any drumcorp could be.....LMAO I have tried a lot of different kits. I have recently aquired a set of pdps and they are great...sabian and gibralter.

My names David Dovey, I am 18 and from Perth, Western Australia. I have been playing percussion for 6 years, kit for just over 4, and have been in a band for just over a year. I am doing Bachelor of Design at Edith Cowan University, (2nd year) and have been going out with my beautiful girlfriend for coming up on 5 months. I love reading, watching DVD's, and above all else, listening to and playing music. My fave bands are Tool, Metallica, Dream Theater, AFI, Bad Religion, In Flames, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, A perfect Circle. Other music I like is old-school heavy, thrash and power metal, prog metal, classic rock, old school hardcore, underground hip-hop and melodic death metal.
My kit:
Pearl Export EX (black/black h/w)
14/5.5 wood snare
10x9 tom
12x10 tom
14x14 floor tom (suspended)

Hi all!
My name is Fiona, I am a school teacher and I live in the Isle of Man. (Home of the TT!. I am 24 years old and enjoy listening to all types of music.
I played drums when I was at secondary school - played for about 2 years but then sort of just gave up... I think it was because I didn't really 'get it'.
Anyway, I took drumming up again in April this year. I bought myself a Yamaha DTXpress electronic drum kit, as noise and space were a big issue. I started playing for a local band who play with other 'learning' groups (it's called a music workshop and we tour round the Manx pubs, basically playing and enjoying ourselves).
I've recently ordered an acoustic kit as I found it really hard to do a gig with an electronic (sound comes from the PA which is far away - not the same response etc) so I'm waiting for my brand new Yamaha Stage Custom Noveau to arrive next week :p
I'm now playing in another band called the Rejected Barbie Dolls...having a great time!
I've just bought a guitar as I fancy learning a bit. I think it will as to my musical ability and have a positive impact on my drumming (I hope!)
Nice to find out who I'm chatting to here.
Erm…. Not sure what else to say now…..
Cheers guys!

Well, my name's Drew, i'm 15, i've been drumming for about 2 years, more like 1 and 4/5. I'm in a band called Mack, and I'm seriously thinkin bout quitting cause our singer sucks. I like alternative and indie and more underground stuff, not pop. Pop is *shivers*. Anyways, so happy Easter everyone (I know it's tomorrow)!

Hey, pop can be good. Just listen to Kylie Minogue!
Actually, naw, late 80s early 90s pop was pretty good. Then techno and hip-hop started mixing with it, and you got what we got now. Erg.

The VW Golf GTI advert with the Singing in the Rain remix and the body popping is the best advert I think I've ever seen. And to make this drum related, the remix has some pretty cool drumming, even if it is most likely a sequencer.

OK, I'll bite seeing as how I'm new here and I've got 2 minutes before lunch! I'm Martin, 27, married and live in Staffordshire, UK. I play guitar (Ibanez 7-string and an acoustic), bass (Yamaha TRB that I got for my 21st present, *sweet* :)), keyboards (couple of E-MU synths) and drums (Big Yamaha SCA Nouveau kit with Sabian AAX and Signature cymbals, Remo heads and LP percussion). Main drumming influences are Neil Peart, Alan White, Rod Morgenstein and Mike Portnoy, been playing forever (like 12 years or something, on and off) but only finally bought myself a kit just after Christmas, so it's nice and shiny and new still :)

well its not realy a "job" job, more of a volunteer thing where i choose not to get paid. needed to get service hours to graduate highschool and if i worked at this camp close to my area i could get them all in one week. i figured one clean sweep would be easy but the camp is a blower. i work with second grade boys and it i dont have the energy or patience to deal with them sometimes. its agravating to say the least.

My name is Dene, learnt bass guitar when I was in middle school (wayyyyy back), moved on to "proper" guitar after 7 years, played and practised really hard - then had a massive car crash, ended up on a life-support machine, got better after like 2 years but due to memory losses forgot most of what I'd learned. Guitar went away due to the depression of being rubbish again - decided to take up drums instead (which has now taken over my life....)
Married, 2 kids, lovely wife, boring job. Probably one of the oldest on here but don't let that put you off!

Jon, 33, Married, bun in the oven, live in Longmont, Colorado, work for the Univ of Colorado in Boulder.
Played for many years as the-guitarist-who-had-a-set-of-drums (really old beat up Slingerlands with no reso's, and some pawn shop Zildjians+22" ride with a big V cut out of it--had it over 8 years and never even thought to change the heads). Sold them when I moved to a (really really) small apartment in Boulder. Got back into to drums more seriously about a year ago after buying a house with a basement, and I've been actually trying to play them this time. I currently have standard Mapex V-series (w/Zil K Custom, Zil-Avedis, Sab AAX-all upgraded from my original ZBT collection-ok, I still have some) that I finally got a decent sound out of (thanks drum tuning bible), and within the next few weeks I'm getting my fusion Sonor Force 3005 (!). Have a rock'ish-like trio, that I jam with once a week. Still love to play everyday, and haven't picked up a guitar in months (even on a recent camping trip), except to show my guitarist some riff or another on an acoustic.
I like this board for it's international memberships (UK, Europe, Austrailia, etc.), among other things. Lerned a lot. thanks everybody.
