Guys, is it worth the effort to trade my DW 4002 for a Sonor 492S? (both doubles).
Voodoo Rabbit
08-10-2005, 05:16 AM
Both are equally good in my opinon....
If you really want to change the pedals, do it....
*That was of absolutely no help - Sorry!*
Jezen
08-10-2005, 05:21 AM
I dunno, I just think to myself, "Could Lang do the stuff he does on a DW 4002?"
Voodoo Rabbit
08-10-2005, 05:25 AM
Maybe he's just used to the feel of the Sonor pedal. But I expect, if he was told to sit at a kit (with some other brand of pedal) and play something, he would be equally impressive....

My Rhyhthm course booking has been confirmed. I will be studying with Mike Mangini from the 20th till the 27th.
Well he's not the only one I hang with. I also got:
Steve Alexander
Pete Zeldman
Bob Armstrong
Drumbassadors (holy crap!)
Ian Thomas
Lawrence Cottle
Pete Riley
Colin Woolway
And of course THE Mike Mangini!
Sponsors include: Pearl, Mapex, Zildjian, Paiste, Remo, Yamaha, Beyer Dynamic, and Bath Spa University College.
Gawd dayum im a lucky ****er!
Josiah
08-10-2005, 09:06 AM
Haha that'll be fun stuff.
I fear however you will not gain nearly as much as you think out of it. If you don't understand why Lang could very EASILY do the stuff he does on a 4002, you have much to learn about basic technique. Mike's not going to be able to show you anything more then any other instructor will.
Jezen
08-10-2005, 09:10 AM
Oh come on Josiah, its not that. You know what I meant. 4002's are very cumbersome. Are the Sonors the same, or lighter?
Josiah
08-10-2005, 09:23 AM
The Sonor's are prob lighter because they are more expensive, better built etc.. it still doesn't matter for players of that caliber.
Actually, it wouldn't matter to me either.
You should be able to sit down at any kit, with any pedal and be able to play "at level". That is technique.
On another note.. today or tomorrow.. today or tomorrow.. prob tomorrow.. but I want it today. Darn waiting sucks!

To be honest..
After 15 seconds he prob would forget what pedal his feet were on. That is the case with most players of profeciency.
While I don't play like Lang, it doesn't matter to me. My personal choice is that, and sure it's nice to have the secruity of mind that your equipment is yours, you know it, it won't break, etc..
But I sit down on all kinds of sets, with all kinds of pedals and different settings. I just play, I don't bother to think about "Oh this pedal feels a lil rougher". It just doesn't really matter.
Jezen
08-10-2005, 11:31 AM
Your not helping. Your basically saying I shouldn't feel a difference between a PDP 402 and a DW 9002.
poppinfresh
08-10-2005, 11:33 AM
no hes saying that you should be able to play the smae things on all kinds of pedals. like the way you can play the same rudiments at the same speeds on all snares. hes saying its in the feet not the pedal. I think lang made a good point of this at his clinic.
Josiah
08-10-2005, 11:35 AM
^Exactly
You should never need a particular model pedal to help you play better.
Most of the reason for buying high end pedals is reliability. All that crap about bearings, smoothness, adjustablity.. that's the minor issues releated to purchase. Most companies however realize, and market towards the "medium and lower" drummers who are unaware or have not realized, or simply have not progressed in their drumming maturity to understand that the equipment really doesn't matter that much.

I know what you're saying, but I can definitely say that I play much better on my Tama IC then say: a tapa HP10, or a low line pearl or yamaha pedal. Maybe just my technique isn't good enough yet, but thats what I've found.

Hello Mason,
Thanks for choosing Tama!! Without actually seeing/evaluating your pedal, it is hard to say if the problem warrants replacement or repair. What we recommend is calling our customer service dept. to receive a Return Authorization Number in order to send your pedal back to our facilites. Here, we can repair or replace any defective parts under warranty (as long as your pedal is still under the 1-year factory warranty period).
You can reach our customer service department @ 1-800-669-4226 and choose option #3 for sales and service. NOTE: Do not send anything back to Tama without a Return Authorization Number.
Thanks

well in the last 2 days i forked out a nice $600. here's what i bought:
20" a medium ride
metronome
carter beauford : under the table and drumming (vhs)
stick control
3 pairs of sticks
ibanez guitar
guitar strap
guitar picks
me and my friends went to every guitar shop in the city, it was a good 2 days
oh, and we went and saw shark boy and lava girl at the cheap theaters. oh dear. i thought maybe the 3-d would be worth my $2, but there was only about 15 collective seconds where it was worth labelling the movie as 3-d. they could have saved themselves alot of time by just making a regular movie, as the 3-d was generally bland, and added nothing to the movie.
and today i had to wait in line for 8 minutes for a crunchwrap supreme combo, which by the way was terrible, so they gave me 2 "empinadas" or something for free. they were also terrible. well now i'm heading out right away for a fire i think.

Haha, I love looking at little kids directly in their eyes. It is so funny, I stabbed myself in my eye when I was 2, now my eye wanders off and it dialated(sp?) all the time. So I've got one brown eye and one black eye with a go-t and dreads....No wonder kids are scared of me, hahaha.

Haha, about a month ago I was chillen over at Celebration Station with some friends (it was $5 gocarts all day, we thought what the hell). It took us a 2 hours to ride it one time because of the line, but the little girl that was standing next to us, looked at my friend, then looked at me....I opened up my eyes, put my eyebrows done. I swear, it was like she saw a serial killer. She just stared at me while trying to find her mothers leg to hold on to. I gues she figured if she looked away I would kill her or something, pretty funny, to me atleast.

Eye contact is a sign of strength and self confidence.
Thanks for that Jim!

And if you do happen to break the contact, pretend to go in for a handshake but grab her tit for good measure.
