Can anyone remember a footy game on the NES where you could play on concrete pitches, and when you tackled people you like, practically killed them (they stayed down for the duration of the match lol). And i seem to remember turning a football into a fireball *squints*. It did happen...I didn't imagine it ;)

What? No Contra games?
The first Contra on NES was groundbreaking, and Super C was a great game as well. Contra III on the Super NES was a great way to top off the "trilogy of worthwhile Contra games." The other ones, ones on Sega or Sony systems, aren't quite worth playing, in my opinion. They don't carry the magic of the original three.

rep+ my thoughts exactly.

Man, I can remember playing the Lovely Ladies over and over to get money to build up teams so I would have some tough opponents to play against. When isnt it? What is a wren?

Excitebike was high up there for me.
Tecmo Bowl
Zelda
Pro Wrestling (**** you Amazon and your foreign object!)
Ring King (that game had so much replay value)
Ice Hockey, Blades of Steel
Double Dragon

teenage mutant ninja turtles

the system itself (it was the first system after the atari crash that pulled the videogame indusrty up by the scruff of the neck)

i had the nes when i was really young, and i can say without a shadow of a doubt that it had the best kiddy games of any system before, after, or ever. I had this combo Sesame Street pack with Count's Numbers and Ernie's Magic. These games kicked so much *** that I cant even describe them without my head exploding. I'm willing to bet that if I went back and played them they'd still be fun, but I gave my nes and all my games to a family at our church whose house burned down completely in a fire. The man says his son plays the nes way more than he did his old gamecube. Brings a tear to my eye with the nostalgia. I mean, what do kids have now, Finding Nemo and Shark Tale? No wonder there are so many anti-video game lobbyists out there...

Sorry about that tangent. I really wish I could play a nes again, but its been put to a far better use. :-)
