I was going to put this in the games beaten thread but didn't.
Okay.
Little platformer where you play this dude called Raziel. Raziel was once a seraphim (which in this game are warrior priests hell-bent on ridding the Earth of Vampures) he was then killed and reanimated as a vampire only to eventually be thrown into the everlasting fires of hell to burn for eternity. Somehow he survived and came back as a dude with no lower jaw who could swallow souls without chewing.
So anyway, there's this other dude called Kain who is the ultimate vampire guy and is responsible for the destruction of the pillars that keep the world in balance. Kain was born to be the guardian of the balance but through a few missed classes and some relatively minor criminal offences he went off the straight and narrow and sent the world of Nosgoth spiralling into peril.
Then there's the dude Moebius who is the keeper of the timestream, not much to say on him except he does have a very cool forehead tattoo.
Then there's this elder guy. Think one of HP Lovecraft's unmentionables (no, I don't mean trousers)... he's a big three eyed octopus that clings to the bottom of the pillars mentioned above. He, along with moebius, want Kane destroyed so that history can be repaired and the balance live on.
Okay, the plot is immensely convoluted, and spans all three of the games so far, so don't be surprised if all the above sounds like nonsense. The key thing is, you cannot tell from beginning til almost the end who is telling you the truth and who is manipulating you for their own ends. The plotting is awesome. This thing would make a top notch fantasy novel.
As to the gameplay: very clever puzzles ala Tomb Raider, some sexy level design too. Some levels are a bit snaffled though, repetetive wall paterns or non-existent wall patterns abound. The fighting is very same-ish and once mastered is a breeze. Three Hell Demons you say? No worries, take a hit from them you simply warp back into the spectral plane and eat some souls to regenerate. Oh yeah, the main guy can warp between the material and spectral worlds. In the spectral world you cannot move things or lift things, yet certain places become easier to reach. You then find a planar station and warp back to the material world. It makes for some difficult puzzles.
Anyway, rent this game and be amazed by the story. Don't buy it.
This was not a review, I just didn't know when to stop typing.
Now is a good time for that methinks.
