my friend has HL2 and has it installed on his computer. I was wondering if I could also install it onmy computer or if i would end up having to use a different cd key

hrm, I'm not sure.

Can you create multiple Steam accounts using a single CD key? Ithink you can.

If so, maybe your friend can make a second account and give you the name and password. Once you sign onto Steam, you can either install the game from disk or just double-click on the game and it'll downloaded all the files you need from Steam's servers. It's a pretty big game, so I wouldn't recommend downloading it unless you've got a really fast connection.

The good thing about being able to download the game files you need directly from Steam, is that if one of the install disks gets scratched and doesn't work or is missing files, you can just download the files from Steam's servers. It sees that you're missing files when you open the game and it automatically begins downloading what you need.

I didn't even know this, so I was really pissed when I got an error on Disc 4 when trying to reinstall the game. I thought I was going to have to buy a new copy, but when I opened up the game out of curiosity, it began downloading the files I was missing and I was extremely relieved.

You can but you cannot make two seperate accounts with the same cd key. But you can use the same acount name. But if you do this you cannot both blay counterstrike source at the same time. But you can both play Half Life 2 at the same time because you can set it so you can play offline so you dont have to connect to the internet to play. Does that help any if it does you can rep++. :thumb:
