Personally I'm anticipating the realease of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy movie. I've read the books so many times that I really wanna see how well they do this, but I have to wait until May.
So, anything you really want to see made to a movie?
maybe the hobbit
that could be good

I'm somewhat dreading the Hitchiker's Guide film. A lot of the real comedy from the books comes from parts that would be really hard to portray in film; it's not even voice-over style, because it wasn't one of the characters 'talking', just some abstract narrator.
I'll still go and see it though, just to see how it turns out, and I'm kinda happy with the choice they've made for Trillian, as Zooey Deschanel is one of the few people I think could play Trillian as I think of Trillian. Provided she can manage an English accent, anyway.

Never read it, but they're making a film of DaVinci code.

i would like to see an adaptation of the everworld series. i think just for all the fighting between gods it should be pretty awesome. tietam brown too. although the ending would have to change, because a lot of people would cry foul if not.
also, for comics, earth-x, universe-x, and paradise-x. it's a trilogy with an awesome storyline featuring just about everyone in the marvel universe.

Good book. Better than I though it would be. I hope the movie is just as goos or better.

Yeah but that is rare to see a film better than the book.
Hell yeah for the Hobbit!

Ender's Game
agreed. i would want it to be more serious and a little dark, not so much just a happy story abour a little kid.

I've heard that The DaVinci Code is being made into a movie. I'm not too sure that it's true though...
EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't see the posts before me.
And yes...I agree with Ender's Game.

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. They are amazing books which, if done well, would make a great movie.
Also I know Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams is being made into a movie. People that made Bruce Almighty are making it.

Tom Hanks is playing the lead role, and Kate Beckinsale will likely be Sophia in the DaVinci code movie. I'd rather see Angels & Demons though, since I liked it more.

As for Zooey Deschanel, don't the books say that Trillian looka Arabian? Also, will the film be based more on the books or the original radio series?

A slight Middle Eastern look to her, I think. That never seems to bother people, though; in the TV adaptation she was played as/by a blonde bimbo.

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. They are amazing books which, if done well, would make a great movie.
The books are very good, but I don't think the films will be. They're removing God from the storyline, to avoid offending the majority of the American audience.

Never even knew they were making a movie about it, just thought it would be really good.
But if they are removing the God element of it they are removing quite an important part of the book which would result in the movie being ruined.

Yeah, taking out god would totally butcher that story.
It's like.....all about god.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy screenplay was written by Douglas Adams before he passed away.
The executive producers were friends with him, so I think out of respect for him they wont ruin it.
Adams himself even said that the screenplay is it's own entity, kind of like how the books were.
Those of you unfamiliar with the books Douglas Adams would write something completely contradicting to something he wrote in the previous book.
He did add a new character into the story in the screenplay. I dont know but i'm pretty excited to see it.
I would like to see an updated version of The Grapes of Wrath, and maybe (if they didnt ruin it) a film version of the Catcher in the Rye.

it will probably make a good movie but the book is so overrated.
its really poorly written and after the initial intrigue it gets kind of
boring, also almost all the stuff that everyone reckons is really intellectual
in it is pretty much made up or poorly reseached...i get annoyed when people
bang on about that book

I would think that would be pretty hard to make, since he is thinking to himself most of the movie, but meh. If they did make it I would most likely go and see it. Although some gey director would film it and ruin the whole movie and book. A book I would like to see turn into a movie would be Night by Elie Wiesel. That has potential for a great drama movie.

i'd like to see a remake of johnny got his gun. i just finished the book and was amazed by it. althoughh from the little i've seen in the metallica's one video, it looks like they kill him in the end, which i don't like. the ending in the book is so much more depressing and better for the purpose of the movie.
They are making the Da Vinci Code movie. Its supposidley being directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks (he doesn't fit the character of Langdon but thats who hes gonna be anyway)

His Dark Materials was one maybe not now though.
The Silmarillion, that would make LOTR look tame if someone filled in the gaps that stop it from being a proper book of stories.
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is one of the best books I've ever read and I believe in the right hands it could be a good film.
The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb, though if HDM film becomes popular it probably will be made.
Hitchhiker's, can't wait.
I pray that they make Neil Gaiman's The Sandman into a film and Alan Moore's The Watchmen, never read anything like them ****ing amazing.

I'd be interested in seeing a discworld novel or two being converted to celluloid... although you'd need quite a SFX budget.
Maybe Mort or Guards, Guards! would make good films...

I thought that too, though it would be very hard to pull off.
Guards! Guards! would be great, I've seen the animated versions of Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music the latter being pretty cool so who knows, maybe a film will be made?

Hopefully, Peter Jackson will make the Hobbit. After King Kong, he is adapting The Lovely Bones. Haven't read that one, though.
His Dark Materials is actually in the writing process, hopefully Hollywood douche bags won't **** it up, because the first two books of that trilogy were ingenius.
Good Omens, the book written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaimen, would make the greatest movie ever. It was being planned, but the projected was shelved because of budget concerns. Hopefully it will happen someday, because the book is truly great and would make a fine film.

I'd love to see The Silmarillion done, that'd rule. As long as they did it right. Other wise it'd suck as a movie. like you said there's too many gaps. And wow as i was reading the thread i thought farseer trilogy would be great, and then you beat me to it. D*mn you

What a book! Got me addicted to Neil Gaiman, the guy's a ****ing genius you MUST read The Sandman, Signal To Noise and Violent Cases.
The Hobbit IS being done by PJ, never heard of the other book though.
HDM is 3/4 done, though as I've heard it (through the Pullman website) it's had all the offensive elements taken out for the weak stomached fundamentalist Christian yanks.

some good movies could be made from the shannara series(esp elfstones of shannara). Too bad the first book, sword of shannara is shockingly similar to the lord of the rings.

This is true....there was a special on the history channel about most of it being a little fact blown out of proportion. And it felt like he recycled ideas from AND, like the woman in the stories father dying in both, and both were killed by some assassin of sorts. But i still found the story interesting, and both books held me on long enough to finish them.

Same here, but it is a little long to make into a film, isnt it like 10 fairly decent sized books now? and its still not finished. Good Omens would make a good film aswell.
